'Mull Of Kintyre' wasn't the A-side of the single in the US - they promoted 'Girls School' instead and peaked at 33. Paul McCartney's solo Number One 'Pipes Of Peace' was also flipped in the States, though at least that still made Top 30 there. Conversely, 'Uncle Albert/Admiral Halsey' (credited to Paul & Linda McCartney) was a US Number One that wasn't released as a single in the UK - they released 'Back Seat Of My Car' here and it only got to 39, which was a massive flop for him in 1971.

Arguably it already has, with the Tweets in 1981, KWS in 1992 etc...

As I said, I don't think it's specifically the fact that it's rock show so much as the fact that it's a genre-specific one that's the issue, so people who don't think they like that particular genre are likely to head straight for the off-switch at 6:59. I used to do that with Dance Anthems back in the day, and the same would apply if they put a hip-hop show there. Mind you, I always used to switch off Dan & Phil as well, because they were obviously aimed at a demographic I wasn't part of (and because they were so annoying on the album chart). Nowadays I'm always switching over to Forgotten 80s at that time anyway so it doesn't affect me what R1 put on.

I do find it a bit odd to put a genre show straight after the T40 - nothing to do with which specific genre it is, I think the same applied when it was Dance Anthems. Back on topic: 'Bump & Grind 2014' does sound a bit like 'Push The Feeling On' - but only the famous remix of it so if anyone should be peed off it's MK, not the Nightcrawlers.

I don't think it was ironic at all that 5Sos were supporting 1D, it's a big promotional advantage they may have paid for. Presumably they played their big songs though.

Aha, I've found an image of the Grange Hill single cover on Discogs and it does have a list of "actors" on the back (I guess they weren't brave enough to call them singers). 5Sos had toured before 'She Looks So Perfect' was released though, so I presume they'd performed the song even if their fans hadn't heard the studio version of the track.

I know the rap on 'Just Say No' was by Mmoloki Chrystie, because my Dad had an autographed copy of the single and he was specifically credited for that. I can't remember whether all the other cast were listed on the sleeve. Anyone want to try and recognise them from the video? jCLs0jv_Efk

Yeah, I was trying to remember whether there were any vocals on that one. I'm pretty sure their Top 75 EP 'No Education = No Future (F**k The Curfew)' was all-instrumental too, but I'm not sure about all their other charting hits. On a different musical style, there's the theme tune from 'Reilly Ace Of Spies' (actually an excerpt from The Gadfly Suite by Shostakovich). Turns out both the 187 Lockdown songs I was going to mention do have some vocal samples.

I've thought of quite a few that I need to listen back to so I can check they really were instrumental, but I'm slightly surprised nobody's mentioned Booker T & The MGs yet. Also, 'The Crunch' by the RAH band was in the chart this week in 1977, at the same time as 'Magic Fly' and 'Equinoxe' - and also Bruce Johnston's version of 'Pipeline', which has vocals but no lyrics. Not sure what people had a against words that autun. Another massive but sadly forgotten hit was 'On Her Majesty's Secret Service' by Propellerheads and David Arnold.

Sorry, didn't get a chance to post yesterday but what I meant was that calling Train "largely" ignored by Radio 1 is a massive understatement. I still quibble with the idea of that keeping them from the Top 40 though as they get plenty of play elsewhere.

Aw I like that song too, although it is a bit ruined by her awful attempt at an Australian accent. It ends up more Swindon than Sydney. Still I agree on the general point though, the album was released quite a while after 'Sat In Your Lap' and the other two singles from it flopped.

Isn't Lyra from a soundtrack album? That might have helped trickle sales, especially since it's not on any of her albums. Though I agree it's unlikely to be a massive seller.

Yeah, I'm not at all surprised by what the Top 3 are but I am surprised by the order. 'This Woman's Work' seems to rechart more often, and 'Running Up That Hill' recharted higher - I presume they are combining the version, otherwise they'd surely both be in the T10 anyway? Glad to see 'Army Dreamers' in there as well.

Surely the Chris Brown album will have a picture of his smug face on the cover anyway, like all his others do?
