  1. Now you've started this thread I'll have to take it a bit more seriously and pick something non-shameful.
  2. You could turn retweets off, I suppose.
  3. Yeah, whilst you can argue that Neil Tennant is rapping on 'West End Girls' it's not really a hip-hop track in structure or production. However, 'Ice Ice Baby' still isn't the first, because 'Turtle Power' by Partners In Kryme beat it. The first Number One with any rapping on it at all is 'Candy Girl' by New Edition.
  4. Me3. I'm not sure I'd agree that '9 To 5' is better known than 'Jolene' but it's one I've noticed recharting a lot more.
  5. I feel like a kid handing in his homework at the last minute, so apologies if any of this has already been corrected: C&C MUSIC FACTORY - David Cole d. 24-Jan-95 CAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE - A pedant might argue that the original 4:33 isn't exactly silence, but the sound of musicians not playing. This possibly is a subtlety lost in this version though. ALI CAMPBELL - Only worked with Robin Campbell in UB40 - Duncan joined as a replacement for Ali. 6. Wait, entering at 3 is flopping now?

Yeah, cause that's what the music industry really lacks - awards ceremonies.

What about the fact that Sia's released many singles that are much better than this and never got anywhere near Number One?
  9. Are you trying to curry favour with that post?
  10. Yeah, I spotted that but I thought maybe it was a Freudian slip.
  11. Yeah, I don't particularly like them (and as I don't use iTunes I've only ever received one) but I don't think they're related at all to frontloaded album sales.

It's a best-of and a new album, so presumably it's getting more fanbase sales than otherwise. Also, I know she was on the One Show yesterday, there was an advert in the paper.
  13. Hardly the most original lyric I've ever heard.
  14. Don't normally look in this thread but I I saw a thing on Damon Albarn's Facebook yesterday where there was some sort of incentive offered to people who Shazamed his new single. I guess that means he's actually trying to hype his way into this chart - presumably in the hope radio stations will playlist it.

What, Peter Murphy from Bauhaus? Seriously?
  16. I'm not sure I agree with the part I've just bolded there. I suspect that if he'd released 'One' as the held-back, airplayed single and 'Sing' as the instant grat, he'd probably still have had a Number One just because now is the obvious time for him to have one.
  17. Yes, I'm old enough to remember people saying that at the time (although pedantically speaking, most of those songs didn't actually get to Number One).
  18. Surely it actually is a bit of a coincidence, given that most of their biggest hits are much further down - although 'Fire' was a significant hit it's obviously also gained from being released at a time of much better sales than most of their other high-charting hits. Notice that 'Cutt Off' isn't even in this Top 10, even though it peaked at 6 (though it's obviously one of the smallest selling Top 10 hits of all time). I think 'LSF' is the one where says "the chips are on fire", isn't it?
  19. As I recall, the 2005 version of 'Amarillo' was on one CD and one DVD format, although I'm not sure that's entirely relevant. Personally, I'm all for keeping them separate as the credit is different.
  20. ...If anybody needs me, I'll be buying a replica Germany kit.
  21. Really hoping this isn't a version of the Tenpole Tudor song, but bracing myself for the fact that it probably is.
  22. By the way, that Robyn/Royksopp "EP" is five different tracks so it won't be in the singles chart.

I think White Denim were on Jools as well.
  24. The very long build-up to this release suggests that if it too peaks at 9, it won't really be as big as those two.
  25. I bet Sam Smith's gutted.
