  1. It's not actually particularly unusual to release multiple live albums - Pearl Jam released hundreds of them. I think the idea is that people buy the album of the gig they were at, and some obsessives buy all of them anyway. I think the question might be more, why did he play four different venues in the same city (where he doesn't live) within a year?

They have a slight advantage (in the specific context of this chart) because their sales aren't spread over two versions.
  3. I guess Ruth Lorenzo would have been T200 this week were it not for the iTunes glitch.

They're people who are still alive and have agreed to their album being released. :teresa:
  5. Surely the greatest achievement of 'That Sounds Good To Me' by Josh Dubovie is that it created a very rare opportunity to use the phrase "Not as good as the Jive Bunny song of the same title".
  6. To be fair to him, though, I think part of the reason he's done as well as he has is because he worked so hard and seems like a nice chap. I don't really like much of his music but neither do I understand all the vitriol thrown at him.
  7. It feels like ages since I posted about this song on another forum - and the release date is still well over a month away! I'm going to predict flop because everyone who liked it when it was first premiered will be a pensioner by the time it's actually released and they might not be able to afford it.
  8. I'm not a big fan of gratuitous swearing, but swearing at Wheatus is never gratuitous.
  9. Yeah, they did make a big deal of recording '4:33', and getting some big names into the studio. They also did some remixes for the B-sides

Didn't somebody try to do some full estimates a couple of years ago? I remember they debunked that 2.3 million for Now 44, though it probably still is the top-selling non-soundtrack compilation. Here's some of the figures they came up with: http://nowthats.blogspot.co.uk/2011/05/met...es-figures.html Surely nobody would buy Now 83 just because they thought it was the last one - and are you sure that wasn't Now 84 anyway?
  11. To be fair, Peter Gabriel wasn't a has-been when he originally released Big Time.
  12. OK, here's what I've got for B: BBM Possibly not the place to discuss all their previous history, but worth mentioning IMO that they're a 2/3 reunion of Cream - that's how I remember them beign promoted at the time. Gary Moore died 6-Feb-2011 B-Crew X-ref to Erick Morillo's other projects? BON Stands for Band Ohne Namen (German for Band With No Name) BWO Supposedly stands for Bodies Without Organs B*Witched X-ref to other Lynch sisters in Buffalo G and FAB Mark B Is not a rapper, just a producer Babybird Was initially a solo project by Stephen Jones, who released I think five albums in a year before recruiting the band who play on all the hits. He now uses the name solo again. Bachman-Turner Overdrive X-ref to Guess Who and Tal Bachman Backbeat Band Greg Dulli was (and now is again) the leader of Afghan Whigs; Dave Pirner is the lead singer of Soul Asylum As the film is about the Beatles, both their hits were covers of songs performed (but not written) by the Beatles. Lananeeneenoonoo were Dawn French, Jennifer Saunders [both charted as Absolutely Fabulous, Saunders is married to Ade Edmondson of Bad News], Kathy Burke [also charted as part of Precocious Brats featuring Kevin & Perry] Band Aid II I can see why you've done it, but it looks odd to have Band Aid 20 listed before Band Aid II IMO. Bandaged I know Anglo-Irish is the standard term, but it looks slightly odd as Aled Jones is of course Welsh Pato Banton 'Baby Come Back' has a partial credit to Ali & Robin Campbell [both members of UB40 at the time] JJ Barrie His hit features uncredited vocalist Vicki Brown (wife of Joe, mother of Sam) should you choose to include them. Basement Jaxx Felix Buxton Beach Boys I could write pages about their comings and goings and other trivia, but for the sake of brevity I'll keep to a few points: Thanks for including Fataar and Chapman, people tend to write them out of history. FYI, they're both South African and Fataar also charted as a member of the Rutles. Dennis Wilson 4-Dec-44 - 28-Dec-83 Carl Wilson 21-Dec-46 - 6-Feb-98 I think they all attempted solo careers, only Bruce and Brian have made the UK singles chart. Dennis made a belated album chart appearance. Brian's daughters (Wendy & Carnie Wilson) were/are members of Wilson Phillips Beady Eye Pedantically, Chris Sharrock wasn't an official member of Oasis but toured and recorded with them in the later years of their existence. He, Andy Bell and Gem were all members of other acts pre-Oasis, is it worth referencing them all everywhere? Not sure if there's anything to be done about that. Mel Blatt Is also credited as part of Outsidaz featuring Mel Blatt and Rah Diggah on a 2002 hit. Blind Melon Shannon Hoon 29-Sep-67 - 21 Oct 95 Blow Monkeys Robert Howard (aka Dr Robert) also had a duet hit with Kym Mayzelle, which appeared on a Blow Monkeys album so should be cross-referenced. The Blues Band Paul Jones and Tom McGuinnes were ex-Manfred Mann. McGuinness and Flint also recorded as McGuinnes Flint (must have taken them ages to think of that name!) Bluetones Their second hit of 2000 has a subtitle: 'Autophilia (Or How I Learned To Stop Worrying And Love My Car)' Bo Selecta X-ref to Avid Merrion's hit with Davina McCall & Patsy Kensit, and to Leigh Francis hit as Keith Lemon? Bow Wow Wow Dave Barbarossa was later a member of Republica Box Tops Alex Chilton later formed the very influential group Big Star and recorded solo. He died a couple of years ago. Boy George Was also a member of E-Zee Posse Boyzone As far as I can tell, neither Shane nor Keith ever had a solo hit, only their duet Brad Stone Gossard is better known as a member of Pearl Jam. The act was originally called Shame until a musician called Brad Wilson claimed the rights to that name - hence the change. Brakes Eamon was also a member of British Sea Power. The act are known as Brakesbrakesbrakes in the US. Brandy is the sister of Ray J. Braxtons Toni Braxton had been a member but didn't seem to be there at the time of their UK hits. Breaks Co-Op Andy Lovegrove is British and the act were UK-based at the time of their hit. Breeders X-ref to Kim Deal as a member of Pixies and Tanya Donnelly in Belly and solo. Bright Eyes 'Easy/Lucky/Free' is the title of one song, not sure if that can be made clearer? Bette Bright Is married to Suggs Brit Pack Were cast members from Boyband The Musical. Buzzcocks Tracks on Spiral Scratch EP: Breakdown; Time's Up; Boredom; Friends Of Mine This EP was originally released in 1977, and features Howard Devoto who left before their other hits but was also a member of Magazine and Luxuria as well as recording solo. He missed the Top 40 in all those forms. Whew, I feel a bit of a pedant now. Apologies if I've included anything corrected since I made my notes.
  13. Re: Tim Burgess, he's also the uncredited vocalist on 'Life Is Sweet' by the Chemical Brothers - and he's the credited one on 'I Was Born On Christmas Day' by Saint Etienne so that needs to go in. I've just been working on some notes last night, I'll post them soon though I feel bad about mentioning typos at the moment.
  14. Are there perchance some puns about the Kelis album title?
  15. It is getting the sales from pre-orders of the album up to now though, right? So they could just have left it for people to cherrypick from tomorrow.
  16. I get that the song isn't *only* an instant grat, I just don't think a lot of people would be rushing to pre-order an album just so they could get the single one day early, so why make it a grat at all? Bre's suggestion that it's effectively a chart dodge makes sense though.
  17. What's the point of releasing an instant grat one day before the album? It's not a great incentive.
  18. No, clearly it's: My love has got no money, he's a goddess from Belize.
  19. Neil Young's US release date confirmed as 27th May, so probably the day before over here.
  20. Albums Don't normally do this but I've ordered the remaster of Skylarking by XTC so that should turn up at some point this week. Rare for me to buy a new (non-secondhand) CD these days.
  21. I don't think that Barlow song was ever going to be "released" as a single, they were just going to torture Radio 2 listeners with it. It's obviously available on the album anyway.
  22. Brace yourselves for those £90 Led Zep albums going Top 10 in a couple of weeks then.
  23. But the Beach Boys version was a bigger hit (and must be a lot more famous now, via their many hits collections). If they had the original Redwood version that might have been interesting but it sounds like an underwhelming start.

Robbie you just beat me to it! Oh, I think the World In Motion tape was the same both sides wasn't it? My brother had that one; we had a computer that used cassettes to store programs, so he wrote a "program" that would run the tape to search for a non-existent piece of software and so play the tracks.

Good point actually, 'Imagine' and 'Woman' were on different labels in the early 80s so it would be an odd coincidence for them both to release cassette singles by the same act so close together. Perhaps 'Imagine' came out on cassette in 1988 or 1999 and people got confused? Incidentally, with all the Britpop anniversary stuff going on lately I dug up my copy of 'Girls & Boys' by Blur - it's designed to look like a packet of something else. There's a cassette of 'Cigarettes & Alcohol' by Oasis that looks like a fag packet too, but I didn't buy that one.
