The Cassette turns 50
Apparently 5 Seconds Of Summer are doing a cassette single for RSD (but giving it away not selling it): https://twitter.com/5SOS/status/454305602198466561/photo/1

The Cassette turns 50
1987-1991 is a bit before my single-buying days but I can't believe that every one of the hundreds of charting singles in those years was available on cassette. Guess it's hard to prove a negative though.

The Cassette turns 50
'Block Rockin' Beats' was 2CDs and a 12" - but it was released a few weeks after 'Beetlebum', which was two CDs and a 7" so I suspect that Blur take this honour. As for Busted, I can't imagine them releasing a single format that wasn't chart-eligible, so if somebody can find three other UK formats then that would settle that. I can't see why the OCC would bother making a format ineligible either so I assume that labels were just watching the sales figures and came to the same conclusions at the same time.

iTunes Weekly Thread W/C 6th April 2014
Bearing in mind the song title, I think it is pretty poor taste.

iTunes preparing "massive, Beyoncé-esque exclusive"
Of course, it may well be that this story was bobbins to start with, and they're just hoping that somebody will eventually do it and they can claim they were right all along.

FYI people, it's after midnight so Now 87's been released. 'Happy' isn't album-only.

iTunes Album Chart ~ 2014
Funny that Roger Wilko fell so much further in the download chart than the main one. Maybe they had a lot of pre-orders?

New Release Schedule: Monday 31 March
Hang on, Michael Bolton also does a duet of 'Ain't No Mountain High Enough' with Sam Bailey on her album. Somebody at Syco saving some studio costs there?

New Release Schedule: Monday 31 March
Wait, is that seriously supposed to be a hit now? It sounds like a rejected Eurovision entry from ten years ago.

Have a very accurate song title, you mean? :teresa:

Acts you were certain would be huge...
I think it might be a bit generous to even call Daisy Dares You a one-hit wonder after how much the first single underperformed. I never thought she'd go on to much success, though I was expecting her to at least release a second single.

Acts you were certain would be huge...
Zero 7 were always very obviously marketed as an album act though. With hindsight it does look odd how small a hit 'Destiny' was but either way I didn't expect them to have a lot more in chart terms.

Acts you were certain would be huge...
Surely Jennifer Paige had "one hit wonder" written all over her? Lisa Loeb kind of did too, as her hit was from a film and featured a backing group she didn't normally work with. One of my favourite useless pop facts: both Jennifer Paige and Drugstore had their only Top 40 hits in 1998, and then followed them up with different songs called 'Sober' that both peaked at 68.

iTunes Album Chart ~ 2014
Drake's on a UK tour at the moment. Maybe The Weeknd is/are the support act?
-
OCC : Kylie's #2 Sales
Those were released by different labels though so I'm not sure that would be plausible.

Acts that you were certain would be one hit wonders...
As I posted in the wrong place before: Also, Enrique Iglesias. When the follow-up to 'Bailamos' missed the Top 40 (in the same week as Thunderbugs and Lou Bega's second singles in fact), I thought that was the last we'd hear of him.

Is this the end of 99p downloads?
This is old news, by the way: it was announced in the 2013 budget but doesn't come into force until January 2015, so Osborne announced it again this year to make it look like he was actually doing something.

Acts you were certain would be huge...
I don't remember Masai but I do remember 21st Century Girls. I didn't think they'd be massive but I thought their career would at least last into the actual 21st Century. EDIT: Sorry, posted half this in the wrong thread.

Acts you were certain would be huge...
Smash Hits famously broke their own rule by putting Girl Thing on the cover even though they hadn't had a Top 5 hit yet. As it turned out they never did.

Thanks, so heading for that #199 smash then?

New Release Schedule: Monday 24 March
I'm sure I've asked this before but is this a new Wanted song or just a pointless sixth single from their album?

Acts that you were certain would be one hit wonders...
Glad it wasn't just me with Katy Perry, probably the wrongest I've got any such prediction.

Everyone knows this is the best steel-drum song to make the Top 40: ooiHz-wt9kw I know all the words to that one.

iTunes preparing "massive, Beyoncé-esque exclusive"
I realised yesterday that Kate Bush would have been a good guess, but not now.
