  1. Aww, I was gonna mention that. On Now 33, Disc 1 starts with a non-Top-10 hit ('Too Much Love Will Kill You' by Queen).
  2. Thom Yorke is anti-streaming but the rest of Radiohead aren't - that's why he's taken his solo stuff and Atoms For Peace off Spotify but the Radiohead stuff is still on there.

Well, yeah, but sales generally are mostly physical, so topping the iTunes chart doesn't contradict that. Yes he has, it's a cover of a Terence Trent D'Arby song you won't remember. Huh?
  5. I was assuming for the purposes of this thread that the term "streaming" didn't include YouTube (as they're separate options on the poll). Fair point about dance compilations though.
  6. Ooh, get well soon.
  7. Well, obviously weather can affect any kind of sales (or even streaming) if it affects the sort of music people are in the mood to hear. I'm streaming some Beach Boys right now, as it happens. A pedant writes: Mel B was Mel G when she released 'Word Up'.
  8. But if "new music" means music that's newly released, then streaming is at a disadvantage because music is virtually never available on streaming before commercial release so people will have had the opportunity to hear most songs on the radio, TV or YouTube before that happens.
  9. If you count MK's remixes as hits for him, he's already had another one with 'Push The Feeling On' in 1995. Mind you, I don't know if you were even born then.

Wouldn't Brad Paisley have been a re-entry? The album came out and charted in 2013.
  11. Welsh people?
  12. I don't think Scouting For Girls were any less out of place as a Number One at the time than they would be now. Obviously as an act they're a bit less popular these days but you could say that about almost any act and I presume the thread is supposed to be a bit more specific than that. The only reason Baz Luhrmann would be less likely to get there now is that it was held back for so long that somebody would have done a fake version of it.
  13. Wait, where are these people who think Enrique and Flo Rida are cool? I've never seen any of them, but you can't move for people calling Kylie "iconic" and stuff like that. I presume this is actually part of the reason R1 stuck with her until relatively late. People like songs by Flo Rida (though not many people seem to like all of them).
  14. Maybe the Kylie song doesn't sell as much on back catalogue because there are so many copies of the whole album available in charity shops for the same price as downloading one track?

To be fair, they did play James Blunt a lot in 2005-7, and he was already over 30 then. Fair point about Beyonce though - is there a "God I feel really old now" smiley? But I didn't count Mary J Blige because she's only playlisted as a guest vocalist and I'm not sure they'd bother with her on a solo single nowadays. Perhaps the age is more like 35 than 30?

What urban female pop stars over 30 are they playing then? I actually agree with you that there seems to be a tendency to write off female acts at a younger age than male ones, but that's nothing to do with urban music.

Is this Wanted song a new one or the sixth from their album?
  18. Wait, so 'Cucurucu' is an actual potential hit then? I just assumed it was one of those songs that gets played a fair bit on Radio 2 and has no publicity anywhere else. Decent track actually.
  19. Labels used not to bother much with single certifications but it's automated now (for post-1994 sales anyway).
  20. *ahem*
  21. I do have to agree with Ken Bruce that it would be better if she pronounced the word "human" in a less distracting way.
  22. Re: Kylie Speaking as a member of the general public, I'm already tired of the song. How much longer before it's released?

Yeah, the sales level for a Top 30 single overall versus an iTunes Number One album is hard to judge. And people who bought the Macklemore/Lewis album will have heard the track too.
  24. Is it? I listen to Radio 2 and I had no idea it even existed until last night.

There was a clean edit of the Babyshambles song - I'm pretty sure they playlisted it anyway, as well as its couple of plays on chart rundowns.
