  1. Ed Sheeran was arguably even more popular in Ireland than the UK. His popularity has dropped considerably with this album. Azizam missed the top 10, Sapphire 20, Old Phone 38 and this new one barely registered only 51. Zach Bryan seems to have taken his crown.
  2. It has only made the top 40 in the UK
  3. But where would Ed be on Spotify if numbers were not so low? Also if so many songs weren’t on ACR he would be lower in the official charts.
  4. Mad how Azizam has went top 10 in 2 other countries other than the UK so far. Only 119 in France. I thought this would have done a lot better as it sounds like a hit. I know his star power has diminished but I didn’t think things were this bad.
  5. Ed Sheeran only debuted at 30 on Spotify in Ireland. I know it’s only a debut but that seems a shocking debut for someone who was absolutely massive there up to a few years ago
  6. I presume Ed Sheeran will get to number 1 next week or the week after anyway? He will get number 1 with his lead single with whatever way he can.
  7. Isn’t Ed Sheeran releasing in a few weeks too?
  8. Lady Gaga Garden of Eden sounds like a smash. Very commercial and catchy. Could it be a future number 1?

Could Die with a Smile reach number one if it gets a reeet when Lady Gaga’s album drops in 2 weeks?
  10. Why is Abracadabra dropping so much from what it was doing initially? It sounds like a strong single. How is its playlisting on streaming?

UK artists seem to be a bit of a lull over the past year. It took until 15th August for a UK artist to reach number 1 (other than Last Christmas in the first week of 2024). Not counting Last Christmas UK artists only spent 3 weeks at number 1 the whole year. There was also a week in 2024 when there was no UK artist in the top 10. Also no UK artist has topped the Billboard Hot 100 in the past 2 years. Compared to a few years ago UK artists used to be a lot more dominant in the charts. What is behind this?
  12. Could DWAS go number one if it avoids ACR?
  13. Sabrina Carpenter’s album is getting released on 23rd of August. I presume another single will be released before?
  14. Is Bye Bye Bye on any of the main playlists or is it just the movie that is helping it still?
  15. Strange how Sabrina Carpenter is all the way down to 42 in TV Airplay Chart?
  16. Any big artists releasing anything soonish that might chart at number 1?

There have been no UK artists number 1 yet this year. What has been the longest gap before now where there hasn’t been a UK number 1 single?
  18. Why are there fewer UK artists getting big hits compared to even a few years ago?
  19. I was surprised Eat Your Young didn’t do better. When I heard it I thought it sounded like a big long lasting hit as it sounds very commercial. It kind of came and went and had no impact. Maybe the title of the song didn’t help things? Did it not get support on streaming?

Could there be no UK artists in the top 10 this week?
  21. Anyone find it really strange how Stick Season has been such a massive hit in the UK but has never really took off in the US? It only peaked at 10 on the Hot 100. It’s a country/folky song that I thought would take a while to take off in the US but would eventually. It even mentions Vermont and is quite American. He is also American. It also hasn’t been much of a hit at all in Europe. Only peaking top 10 in a few countries and only charted at 44 in Germany (not sure if it even charted in France). It’s not like it’s proper country and wouldn’t work in Europe. It’s only really been massive in UK/Ireland/Australia. This song reminds me a bit of Let Her Go in 2012 as it’s quite folksy but that song was massive in Europe and the US.
  22. Morgan Wallen- Last Night and Luke Combs-Fast Car were big long running top 10 hits in English speaking countries like Australia, Canada and Ireland but not so much in the UK. Last Night was the biggest hit of last year in the US and was also number 1 in Australia and Canada.

What do you think will happen in music in 2024? What singers do you think will release music? Succeed/underperform? etc

Why are single sales in general so low now compared to a few years ago?

I thought Vampire was just ok at first but the more you hear it it actually is a great song.
