(Shame how hardly anyone is interested in using this thread anymore!) 5 in a row for Kelly Clarkson after at once being at the bottom of my table! And The Weeknd has managed another top 5/bottom 2 switch.

The end of Google Play
This is potentially worrying because, if I understood correctly, Nicki Minaj stans tried to make 'Move Ya Hips' (by A$AP Ferg featuring her and MadeinTYO) debut at #1 in the US this week by exploiting the fact that, if you bought it from A$AP Ferg's website store rather than iTunes, you'd be able to buy up to 4 copies per person  (It only debuted at #19 though so it failed - not sure if Billboard filtered out dodgy numbers, or if the alleged stan conspiracies that the website sales weren't reported are actually true.)

The end of Google Play
I've never bought any music from Google Play, but I've been using it as my go-to source for fetching (or simply viewing) HQ single/album covers for many years, so that's disappointing. (iTunes is generally inferior for that purpose because instant grats don't get released separately, pre-album singles are more likely to be deleted, and some older stuff's artwork is of lesser quality, along with being considerably more inconvenient to use.) Yes I know this is a very obscure use case but at least someone will miss it

iTunes Weekly Thread w/c 7th August 2020
I also only realised a couple days ago that the sample actually just came from a sample pack! I'd been confused because I'd heard numerous songs sampling it without a clear origin song, and some of them were older than 'Deep End Freestyle' - like the dance version by Fort Arkansas that came out in February (and also one by AREZRA that came out in early April a few days after 'Deep End Freestyle'). I assume this one is likely 'Deep End Freestyle'-inspired though since it's newer (and on a label with the power to get chart hits). Also wow at 'Sunset Lover' getting yet another wave of popularity! It was so strange to me to see it ever take off in the first place (and even more so when it got on Today's Top Hits), and ever since then it just keeps bubbling around somewhere or other: https://kworb.net/spotify/track/0hNduWmlWmEmuwEFcYvRu1.html I feel like it's probably a song that heaps of people would recognise but have no idea of the artist/title of.

Pixie Lott • AF Idol Spin-Off Discussion
I really like 'Kiss The Stars'!
-
Carly Rae Jepsen • AF Idol Spin-Off Discussion
Can we pretend 'Tonight I'm Getting Over You' wasn't a single and transfer the 'Kiss' representation to 'This Kiss'? :kink: (or even better, can 'Curiosity' count by being the final single of the 'Curiosity' EP?) I loved 'Kiss' when it came out, but 'Tonight I'm Getting Over You' was never much of a highlight to me - and especially not when 'Want You In My Room' is the other option! The only reason not to send 'Want You In My Room' is if it would work better in a later round ^_^
-
Mariah Carey • AF Idol Spin-Off Discussion
I was looking at her discography page and she has so many good options for this round! 'Make It Happen' and 'You Don't Know What To Do' (again *.*) in particular for me, and 'My All' might be one of her most popular ballads, and 'Anytime You Need A Friend' is the best of the 'Music Box' singles imo! Plus there's the song you did not name yourself after :kink: And yet none of those are even worth mentioning because they're dwarfed by 'Always Be My Baby' - impressive. It's not necessarily my favourite, but it's a strong choice!
-
Gorillaz • AF Idol Spin-Off Discussion
Pretty sure you're meant to keep the upcoming themes a little more secretive than this :kink:
-
Janet Jackson • AF Idol Spin-Off Discussion
FYI I think 'Love Will Never Do (Without You)' could be eligible if you wanted, as 'State Of The World' was only a radio single (bar Australia)!
-
Kim Petras • AF Idol Spin-Off Discussion
Yeah I was just typing, how does this work for her? If the 'Clarity' pre-singles had been counted as singles and 'Broken' had been entered for lead singles, it would work perfectly with 'Icy' as the final single now, but that's no longer possible. So would it be the last of the 'Clarity' pre-singles, which is 'Another One'? Or the last of the Era 1 singles, which is '1,2,3 dayz up'? (at least Spotify says it was released 1 day after 'If U Think About Me...' and 'Homework') 'Malibu' seems like too much of a stretch to me, though it's clearly the best option if it can somehow count. From the other 2 I prefer 'Another One' but '1,2,3 dayz up' is obviously the one that has actual demand.

AF IDOL SPIN-OFF: Round 7 Reflection
WD Röyksopp! Very close results for most of the songs. Shame Janet wasn't as well received as her other album tracks, and I would've expected better for Kelly.
-
AF Idol • Your Voting Stats
Röyksopp and Janet building up a lead as the top 2, and Röyksopp become the first one with 2 #1 ranks! Very close points around the middle meanwhile. The Weeknd is climbing well lately (and all his ranks for me have been either top 5 or bottom 2, interestingly).

AF IDOL SPIN-OFF: Round 7 Voting
1. Röyksopp & Robyn - Do It Again 2. The Weeknd - The Birds Pt. 1 (v impressive, great choice ) 3. Janet Jackson - What About (likewise) 4. Anton Powers & Pixie Lott - Baby 5. Kim Petras - I Don't Want It At All (my favourite entered song of hers so far! granted I'd still only rank it ~15th in her discography, but I'll take it :') ) 6. Gorillaz feat. Kilo Kish, Zebra Katz & Imani Vonshà - Out Of Body (enjoyed this! I like how the female vocals at the start remind me of this.... ASMR-chillwave song? [any resemblances to old Buzzjack threads are purely coincidental]) 7. MNEK feat. Hailee Steinfeld - Colour 8. Kelly Clarkson - Dance With Me (would've guessed this song was from 1 or 2 albums prior if I'd heard it blindly!) 9. Tinashe - Watch Me Work 10. Coldplay - Major Minus 11. Greyson Chance - Unfriend You 12. Tove Lo - Imaginary Friend 13. Carly Rae Jepsen - Solo 14. Mariah Carey - Now That I Know (didn't like this as much as all the other songs that had been mentioned in her thread, unfortunately) 15. Maren Morris - Drunk Girls Don't Cry (I do feel like this isn't quite uptempo enough for such a theme, though I have no idea if she had better options) 16. S Club 7 - Stronger

Calvin Harris • Singles Rate • Results
Wow poor 'We'll Be Coming Back' :o One of my favourites of his. I'd place 'Drinking From The Bottle' higher too.
-
Kim Petras • AF Idol Spin-Off Discussion
She has 'Slow It Down'! I've wondered if there'll be a ballads round at some point and I think that would go well if so. I think 'Another One' can be considered a ballad too. Those might be the only ones, but I would consider the likes of 'Broken', 'All I Do Is Cry' and 'Homework' more midtempo (hence not considering any of them in my suggestions for this round). 'Do Me' has already been entered!
-
Janet Jackson • AF Idol Spin-Off Discussion
I can't speak on album tracks, but as far as singles go 'Feedback' is a strong option! I'd definitely go for it over 'Made For Now' if it were up to me.
-
Mariah Carey • AF Idol Spin-Off Discussion
I actually forgot 'You Don't Know What To Do' was a single! I had it in mind as being a popular choice for a future single that didn't eventuate - which I suppose is true outside of being sent to US radio (and doing nothing).
-
Kim Petras • AF Idol Spin-Off Discussion
My top suggestions are 'Sweet Spot', 'Hillside Boys' and 'Blow It All' (assuming 'Heart To Break' is saved for later).
-
Mariah Carey • AF Idol Spin-Off Discussion
Not that I'm familiar with more than a couple Mariah album tracks, but if you're short for ideas, how about 'You Don't Know What To Do'? It's a great song and very upbeat! I like both of those singles and 'Migrate' too. Maybe 'Up Out My Face' could be a decent option as well.
