  1. Psy's "Gangnam Style" finally broke the American barrier to listening to songs in a language you don't understand. Other than Spanish, it's been pretty sparse here. Is it a bellweather event? It's hard to tell, but it proves that worldwide promotion is possible, even into the States. I've been a fan of world hits since I started following Billboard's "Hits of the Word" charts back in 1970. Working in radio, I tried several times to put together a workable format, but until the internet made real-time chart research possible, it ended up being a pipe dream. "World Music" is far easier than "World Hits", because, to be relevant hit charts, they have to be timely. This was simply not possible. It took too long to get the music. Now, however, I've been programming a World Hits program for seven years on the air in Vallejo. Let's say, finding an audience has been a slow process, but it's been a labour of love.Taking Europe as my starting point, because of the language representation, I've slowly been expanding outward, and suddenly I find I have a library and a fairly good overview of the hits of LOTS of places. Still, a cohesive blend is hard. Want to check out my ongoing efforts? (Feedback not only accepted, but desired.) I'm hosting it on LoudCity, so I can stream it with the rights paid to the artists through the appropriate agencies. I just realized I could afford the streaming fees to put it out there and see if it can be molded into something solid. I already really like the station. I'd like to know if anyone else does. The station is called WhirledHits (with a com on the end if you want to check it out... no spam... just a stream you might seriously enjoy. I'm not monetizing it in any way at the moment, so this isn't a pitch which will make me money.) The Player menu links takes you to a page with players. Ignore any message about codecs. It has an autoplay live player that looks for the right Windows Media codec. Just choose one of the links below for your player (iTunes, Windoze, Real, Winamp.) Choose one that works for you and it will open in your player, with the linking necessary to get the rights paid. PS: Thank You. All of you. I've watched this forum for a while now, but not had much to add, so I've been a lurker. Among a HOST of other chart resources, you've been a steady resource, though, so thank you.
