  1. This album sounds like Lana Del Rey trying to do Lana Del Rey. She seems very unrestrained like in her Lizzy Grant demos, but also like she's reaching for the catchier melodies of her first few albums. It's like she's indulging herself and holding herself back at the same time. In a way, it seems like her most authentic album. Not sure if that makes any sense? 😆 I think you could get a truly great album out of this and Chemtrails. I haven't let Blue Banisters percolate enough but it would go something like this: Arcadia Chemtrails Over The Country Club Let Me Love You Like A Woman Dark But Just A Game Black Bathing Suit Yosemite Living Legend Breaking Up Slowly If You Lie Down With Me Thunder Wildflower Wildfire

I know this song is already dead but I really hope this remix can breathe some life into it. It's so good! J8rzaYAyhQc
  3. This whole album is a big miss for me. Marina is all about the melodies and that's why she can get away with the clunky lyrics. But this album doesn't have any of the usual clever or dreamy melodies and it makes the dodgy lyrics stick out like a sore thumb. The only song that comes close to her previous output is Flowers.

I like this. It's not as strong melodically as a lot of her other songs, but I get enough out of the "I don't wanna live..." hook. I also like the production. The last album was too mechanical for me. I agree with the people saying the lyrics aren't up to much. The "campest hotel in LA then" line is clunky as hell. I find that part of the songs charm though.
  5. I think Jennifer Lopez puts on more of a show but Shakira is a more natural performer. Somehow, Shakira bellydancing on her own is more captivating than J Lo being thrown around. I agree with the person that said there shouldve been more interaction. I loved the Let's Get Loud/Waka Waka mash up and it would've been good to do the whole set like that. Shakira could've got some of JLo's theatrics and JLo could've injected a bit of fun into her performance.
  6. She's got a good track record with film soundtracks. I'm hoping she'll get the Bond theme and it will be like some amped up version of 24.
  7. I'm pretty dismayed that Hey Blue Baby isn't on the tracklist.
  8. I'm sorry, but these lyrics are awful: Hello, it's the most famous woman you know on the iPad Calling from beyond the grave, I just wanna say, "Hi, Dad" The whole song feels very self indulgent.
  9. I agree that they're removed from the mainstream and not trend chasing, as some have suggested. But I think they're all style over substance. Yeah, the production is pretty good but she has forgotten some pretty basic pop essentials like writing a decent hook and melody. Most songs on the mix tapes are repetitive and annoying. I only really listen to Drugs and Dreamer.
  10. I agree. And she seems to be part of a group of artists that are all doing the same: Mø, Alma, Max Hershenow... They've all gone from making excellent and exciting pop music to something that's all style over substance. I'm listening to Stay Away instead.
  11. I can't believe how good this is. I feel like if this was by SZA or Kelela or someone trendy, people would be all over it.

Not really understanding all the "incredible" comments. This just sounds weird for the sake of being weird. Bit disappointed because I like all three artists to varying degrees.

This sounds like it should be on a Step Up soundtrack. It's like something by the Paradiso Girls or Sophia Fresh or some other failed girl band. It's all there and I secretly love it, but it would never be a hit.
  14. Havana is great. It's like a Same Old Love sequel. OMG is good but I just think Quavo brings nothing in any of his features.

Initial reaction: the production is amazing but I actually think this is her weakest album. The melodies are weak and the a lot of the choruses are repetitive. The standard of the songs are on a par with her demos, like, they're good but you can tell why they didn't make it onto an album. I have a feeling a lot of songs will grow on me though.
  16. Me too but now Want You Back has properly lodged itself in my brain. I just hope there is something a bit more upbeat on the album. I'd like some more Haim songs to dance to.
  17. It's very Haim...not sure if it's particularly good yet. It doesn't really venture away from the sound of their first album. You could listen to Let Me Go or Better Off and they're pretty similar to this.

Agree. It sounds like a demo. Her solo output since Final Song has been declining in quality.

I like it. But there's just something about this era that isn't clicking for me. Everything from the hooks and the production to the visuals seems a bit obvious and nothing is exciting me like when High By The Beach came out.

Anyone else getting Big Mistake Natalie Imbruglia from some of these songs?
  21. When I was young my parents would describe drum n bass as "someone banging on the bins" and I thought I'd never think of music like that. But now I feel seriously old because this is like someone banging around in the kitchen. A shame, because I like all involved. Other than Trust Nobody, I haven't been impressed with Cashmere's Cat's stuff as a lead artist. I expected stuff like Ice Rink.
  22. Am I missing something with Lipgloss? Dreamer on the other hand... Drugs, 3am and Dreamer make up the holy trinity for me. Emotional is good but I'm still waiting for a down tempo song from Charli to rival Stay Away. This feels like a sequel to True Romance.
  23. This is alright but it's way too laid back for a Major Lazer and Nicki collab. I was expecting something like Hold The Line. I wanted something that went harder. Hey Mama was almost there but that lacked a proper drop as well. It's surprising how few bashment tracks Nicki has in her repetoire considering her heritage and dancehall gaining popularity again.
  24. I don't get the appeal with Greedy... it sounds so dated. I don't think Everyday is up to much either. The lack of a decent chorus would be alright if the beat or synth really kicked in but it's all a bit limp. I'm more here for Touch It or Be Alright.
  25. I found this pretty instant but sounding like a million other songs with all build up and no chorus, except this time there's a saxophone on the drop instead of some distorted vocals.
