'Born This Way' ● Album Discussion Thread
The best songs for me are Marry The Night, Bloody Mary and Americano. I think Marry The Night should've been the second single after Born This Way. Even though I hate BTW with a passion, this album couldn't have been kicked off with another song. I think Marry The Night would've made a much better second single than Judas though and it would've given Gaga's music more integrity because so far, a lot of focus of criticism of this era have been comparisons to Madonna and how Judas is just a rehashed version of Bad Romance. I like Bloody Mary because it's one of the few songs that sonically matches Gaga's image. The same goes for Americano because she successfully fuses different sounds and creates something genuinely interesting. I think Government Hooker and Heavy Metal Lover almost get there but are held back by weak melodies and some dodgy production. The majority of the other songs seem decent in terms of melody and lyrics but are just destroyed by terrible production, especially You & I, Electric Chapel, Highway Unicorn and Hair. Electric Chapel is the most disappointing because it would sound amazing as a slick minimal electro number. Sheisse is just stupid.

Rabiosa - 3rd Single
Video preview: http://www.shakira.com/news/title/sneak-pr...e-rabiosa-video I like it...cheap and cheerful but actually looks like a pop video and Shakira looks so Euro with that wig.

Marry The Night is the best song from BTW so far. The production on all the songs is horrible though. She needs to work with someone who can give her a sound that can match her image.

Fringe
Worst finale ever. I was so disappointed, especially after the amazing season 2 finale and the high standard of episodes this season.

'Judas' ● 2nd Single
I love the styling in the video and the idea, but does anyone else think that it's really poorly shot and edited? There's too many scenes and the plot never really comes through, it sorta gets stuck behind all the costume changes. The dancing doesn't work either, especially the arm swinging bit in "woooo, I'm in love with Judas." It's filmed like an epic dance number but it looks silly when everyone's barely doing a line dance. The idea for this video had potential, but I don't think they've pulled it off.

Nicole Scherzinger 'Killer Love'
That video has turned a pretty average song into something amazing. I love the 50 cent version as well, you don't realise how good the beat is until you hear the 50 intro. Epic pony action.

I Am Here (Estoy Aqui English Version)
From the documentary, apparently it was recorded before DELL and a guy at Sony France recorded the song with her because he wanted her to try a crossover. Apparently, Shakira was asked to record DELL in English but it was scrapped because she'd rather record her own original material which is how Laundry Service came about. I think Eyes Like Yours came from these sessions.

I Am Here (Estoy Aqui English Version)
Yeah, I think so. One of her managers wanted her to record it as a crossover hit but it seems like Shakira didn't want it to happen that way so it was scrapped. It was used in a documentary where they spoke to the guy that recorded it recently which is why it's only just surfaced now.

06. Don't Bother Score: 8.363 MjRRQdnOR-A It was a pretty brave move to release this when you're not really known in most countries for big female rock songs. It didn't really pay off but I'm still glad she released it because quite a few non Shakira fans seem to enjoy this song and it shows off a different side to her.

07. Waka Waka Score: 8.295 pRpeEdMmmQ0 Great summer song and great song for the World Cup. It's just a shame that bad timing meant that Waving Flag became the song that the UK adopted as their World Cup song. If they'd got the video out before the performance at the opening ceremony I reckon this could've been a bigger hit. It still had a pretty good run on the charts though.

I Am Here (Estoy Aqui English Version)
This was recorded when Estoy Aqui was originally released and her label wanted her to try a crossover then. It's only just leaked now though. It's quite interesting to hear. tLe1X91jrlc

"Run the World (Girls)" • First Single
If you search for Beyonce on Twitter, the first tweet that appears is from Interscope, Gaga's label, pointing out that Run The World samples Pon De Floor. Apparently it's Gaga's declaration of war on Bey, because the tweet is in no way benefiting Interscope because Major Lazer have nothing to do with them...

"Run the World (Girls)" • First Single
This song is awesome loud. I've currently got this blasting out of some massive speakers in my room and I'm going to have to play it again so I can go a bit mental to it. I love it when Beyoncé goes hard. This and Ring The Alarm are dangerous.

Katy B - On A Mission
The lyrics for Easy Please Me are horrendous but the melody wins me over...I love the chorus! Go Away is my track of the moment. The big note over the last chorus is biblical.

08. Loca Score: 8.045 XAhTt60W7qo I just don't know what to think of this single... sometimes I think it's an amazing little pop song and other times I just think it's a lame attempt to recreate Hips Don't Lie. It's enjoyable enough, it just annoys me though because it's such a step back from the sound of the She Wolf album.

09. Objection (Tango) Score: 7.954 vxaEsuhj5AE Not one of Shakira's best singles, but for me, the performance I've posted is probably my favourite ever Shakira performance. I would even class it as "career defining" because that performance showed her strength as a pop artist and the artistic genius of Shakira, blending a tribalistic intro with reggae and then bursting into some Rock Lobster bridge. It's completely unexpected but it works. The same can be said for the album version of the song; it's all over the place but somehow it works and makes an awesome pop track.

Scream 4 | 15.4.11
Yeah, it basically is Scary Movie. The way Scream referenced horror films and the conventions of the genre was pretty clever and refreshing at the time. However, Scream 4 is basically referencing itself and the other Scream films to the point where sometimes it does become parody.

Rabiosa - 3rd Single
Apparently, Shakira's choreographer Hi Hat has confirmed that J Lo will be on this track. If it's true, this could become a Beautiful Liar type hit... getting hype because of the two names attached to it. I still don't really believe it.

Scream 4 | 15.4.11
^The whole film is basically a comedy. I thought it was more extreme in terms of violence and gore than the other Screams. There was never any intestines on display in 1-3 as far as I can remember.

Scream 4 | 15.4.11
I enjoyed this. It was ridiculously self aware but it still worked in that respect. The only part I didn't think worked was the fact that the characters keep referencing the killings as a "reboot" and a "remake" but really, Scream 4 isn't either: It's just another sequel that's almost a reboot. One of the problems with the torture-porn genre that the girls listed at the start was the lack of character development, but that was the main problem here. They tried to get in all the new reboot cast but keep in all the originals when there wasn't enough time for all of them.

Love this. I kinda wish that Pon De Floor was used a bit more cleverly but it's still ace. I love it when Bey goes hard.

Jesus - Monday's episode was amazing. The penny can radio advert absolutely killed me. Can't wait for tonight's episode.
