  9. September 21, 1953 By now Elvis returned to work at Precision Tool as a sander and manufacturer of shelves. He also operated a hand drill and drill press. He was paid $1.55 per hour. He would stay at this job till March 19th, 1954. September 21, 1955 Elvis performed at the Memorial Auditorium, Raleigh, North Carolina. September 21, 1964 Elvis, always drawn to uniforms and badges, was appointed "Special Deputy Sheriff" .He told Sheriff Bill Morris: I've always been interested in law enforcement and in fact even applied for a job as a Memphis policeman at age of 19. September 21, 1974 Because Elvis was still in Memphis, Elvis made, with the help of Linda, detailed plans for his new upcoming karate movie, to be called: The New Gladiators. Elvis wanted this movie to promote his own philosophy that karate is a way for a person to help himself.

September 19, 1974 Linda's sister in law gave birth to a little girl at the Methodist Hospital. Elvis insisted not only to see Louise but also wanted to visit the labor room where he was recognized even with his surgical mask. One woman present said: Oh my God, you look like Elvis Presley. Elvis declared: Honey I AM Elvis Presley. September 19, 1976 Elvis flew to Palm Springs, not to return to Memphis before the 26th.

After the show Carl and Elvis had a talk about the possibility of Carl singing with the Sun studios as well. Elvis didn't know whether Sam would need an other singer, but however Perkins did visit Sun the next month. September 17, 1955 Elvis performed at the High School Auditorium, Thomasville, North Carolina. September 17, 1957 Elvis visited Dewey Philips at WHBQ. September 17, 1962 The filming resumed at MGM Studios in Hollywood. And Elvis had a long interview with Lloyd Shearer on the set. Elvis spoke of all the friends surrounding him. He was stating: " it is important to surround yourself with people who can give you a little happiness". He also spoke about his interest in studying philosophy and mentioned that he would liked to become a doctor and often read medical texts. He said that he was hesitant to make any major changes in his career ( " If I can entertain people with things I'm doing, well, I'd be a fool to tamper with it " ), but at the same time expressed an interest in exploring new directions. September 17, 1974 For 10 days Elvis bought a lot for friends, family, staff and strangers. Mostly cars, but also a complete trailer for his cousin Billy Smith, to get him to live in comfort on the grounds of Graceland.

September 15, 1970 Elvis left Mobile at 3.00 p.m. He flew back home to Memphis to complete a 2 day recording session in Nashville. He would return to the West Coast again the 24th. September 15, 1975 While riding his 3-wheeled motorcycles again, dressed in a windbreaker, sunglasses on and smoking a cigar, Elvis told a reporter he was feeling fine again.

All I can say to you is "good luck". September 14, 1970 Elvis performed at the Municipal Auditorium, Mobile, Alabama. The group stayed in the Admiral Semmes Hotel just like in 1955. However the hotel was now in such a terrible state that Elvis complained bitterly. When Joe Esposito tried to arrange something else to stay, he was told there was no other room available. Before ending the tour, Elvis gave out bonuses to each of the guys. Even after deducting the Colonel's share Elvis made more then $174,000 on this 6 day tour.

After that the group returned to Los Angeles, where cots and bedding were rented for Davis and Kingsley, 2 new members of the security group, so they could move into Elvis' Bellagio home. September 11, 1967 Still busy with the recording session Elvis took over the piano part in You'll Never Walk Alone. They worked from 6.00 p.m. till 3.30 a.m. September 11, 1970 Elvis performed at the Olympia Arena, Detroit, Michigan. The whole gang had their own things to attend: Charlie Hodge remained stage manager and general assistant to Elvis, providing him with water and scarves. Lamar Fike was taking care of the lighting. Sonny West responsible for the security and Richard Davis controlled the wardrobe. Dr. Nichopoulos was tour doctor and Joe Esposito remained in overall command. The Colonel always arrived before Elvis in each city. September 11, 1973 Elvis stayed in Las Vegas. He ruined some furniture, while working out karate with Kang Rhee. He even broke his finger on his left hand. During this stay there were rehearsals with Voice. September 11, 1976 Back in Memphis after his tour, Elvis was seen riding his motorcycle. By now there were rumors that Red and Sonny West and Dave Hebler were writing a book about their lives with Elvis.

September 10, 1956 Elvis continued the filming of Love Me Tender during the day. In the evening Elvis had a date with Natalie Wood. September 10, 1963 Elvis reported for the shooting of some publicity pictures. September 10, 1967 Elvis had some brief time between films and wanted to record some new songs and material for new singles as well as bonus songs to fill out the Clamback soundtrack album. One of the songs Elvis really wanted to do was Guitar Man. They fooled around with the song, but couldn't replicate Reed's guitar. So Reed was tracked down and asked to play along. The result of this session was stunning. Unfortunately there was a big misunderstanding about the rights of publishing and after playing on Big Boss Man as well, Reed stormed out. They all went on till 5.30 a.m. but the atmosphere was ruined. September 10, 1969 Elvis flew to Las Vegas. September 10, 1970 Elvis performed at the Kiel Auditorium, St. Louis, Missouri. For the very first time there was a sound system with onstage monitors which allowed Elvis to really hear himself. George Klein, Elvis' former classmate at Humes High School was present too. September 09, 1955 Elvis performed at the McComb High School Auditorium, McComb, Mississippi. September 09, 1956 Elvis performed at the Ed Sullivan Show, CBS Studios, Los Angeles, for the very first time. Since Sullivan himself had had a car accident in August, Elvis was hosted by Charles Laughton in New York City. More than 80 % of the national viewers watched Elvis' live performance of Don't Be Cruel, Love Me Tender, Ready Teddy and Hound Dog. September 09, 1957 Elvis and Anita Wood took a train to Memphis. September 09, 1960 Elvis rented a house at 525 Perugia Way in Bel Air, Beverly Hills. The owner of the house was Ali Kahn, and Elvis rented it for $1,400 per month. This was all due to several incidents at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel. Elvis stayed here off and on for the next 5 years. September 09, 1970 Elvis flew to Phoenix for a 6 city tour arranged by the Colonel and the tour started in the Coliseum, Phoenix, Arizona. MGM filmed parts of this performance. In the advertisement of the opening was the announcement: "by the newest Memphis hit in the recording business Elvis Presley". This took place in front of Katz Drug Store the following night between 9.00 and 10.00 a.m. September 08, 1955 Elvis performed at the City Auditorium, Clarksdale, Mississippi. September 08, 1957 Elvis and Anita Wood had breakfast at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel and after that they visited Radio Recorders to listen to the songs Elvis had been recording over the last few days. Later they watched 4 movies at the theaters around town, while talking about screening Jailhouse Rock the next day. September 08, 1971 Elvis bought a custom-made Stutz Blackhawk. His first was badly damaged in an accident earlier that year and would not be repaired for almost 3 years. September 08, 1973 Elvis and Linda attended a Tom Jones performance and Elvis even appeared on stage at Caesar's Place. September 08, 1976 Elvis performed at the Convention Center, Pine Bluff, Arkansas.

September 07, 1957 There was another session at the Radio Recorders from noon till 8.00 p.m. However there was still one song for the new Christmas album missing, so Leiber and Stoller wrote a new one. This was the bluesy song: Santa Claus Is Back In Town, which Elvis liked very much. There were plans made for recording some instrumental tracks by Scotty, Bill and D.J. at the end of the session. Elvis even suggested he would join them as a piano man. However at the end of the session there was not enough time left and Elvis said or did nothing for Scotty, Bill and D.J. This made Scotty and Bill write a letter of resignation and they expressed their long-held feelings of resentment towards Elvis. D.J. declined to go along with them. This all gave some bitterness on both sides. September 07, 1970 On his last night in Las Vegas the Colonel negotiated an additional 3.30 a.m. show at the cost of $12,500. The International Hotel presented Elvis with a wide gold belt. It had the hotel logo on it and the words: "World's Championship/ Attendance Record/ Las Vegas Nevada/ International Hotel". The belt supposed to be worth $10,000 and Elvis even wore the belt often and with pride. September 07, 1976 Elvis performed at the Convention Center, Pine Bluff, Arkansas.
