    When Elvis and Juan were having breakfast at a restaurant on South Main Street, Elvis got himself surrounded by a lot of girls. He told a reporter he was engaged to only one- his career.

    At the beginning of a 15 day furlough Elvis traveled to Munich and Paris with Lamar, Rex and Charlie Hodge. In Munich Elvis visited old friends at the Moulin Rouge.

    The group stayed over two nights in Flagstaff, Arizona, while visiting the Grand Canyon.

    Elvis flew home to Memphis for the funeral of his cousin Lee Edward Smith, who was drowned. Outside his Audubon Drive house was June Juanico, the girl Elvis met a year ago. Elvis would spend much time with June the rest of the week.

    Soundtrack recording for Girl Happy continued from 7.00 p.m. to 5.00 a.m. Elvis was unhappy with the material and with his own performance and left the sessions after 34 exhausting takes of Do Not Disturb.

    Elvis remained at the hotel, still refusing to go to the studio. Instead he listened to the recordings of Red West, which were very good.

    Elvis met with costume designer Bill Belew to discuss his ideas for the show, readily accepting Belew's suggestions of high 'Napoleonic' collars and a black leather suit.

    Again Elvis performed at Madison Square Garden, New York at 2.30 p.m. This show was added when tickets to the first three original shows were sold out almost immediately.

    Elvis reported to Radio Recorders at 7.00 p.m. to begin with the soundtrack recordings for Girl Happy. He worked until 3.00 a.m.

    Although Elvis was back in Nashville to record again, he stayed in his hotel with a bad cold and sent Red West to take his place.

    June 10, 1967

    With Elvis behind the wheel of the Greyhound, the entourage left for California. This time the wives were included.

    June 10, 1968

    Elvis continued with the rehearsals at Binder-Howe Productions office throughout the week and the weekend.

    June 10, 1969

    Elvis, Charlie, Gee Gee and Lamar flew from Memphis to Las Vegas to view the construction of the new showroom. Elvis continued on to Los Angeles for wardrobe fittings for opening night in Vegas.

    Back in the studio for a final recording Elvis performed "My Way" and "I'll Be home On Christmas Day", but at 4.30 Elvis ran out of the studio in frustration due to the inattention of the backup singers.

    Elvis gave a press conference at 4.00 p.m. at the Hilton. Asked about his image as a shy, humble country boy, Elvis responded: " I don't know what makes them say that", and stood up to reveal the International Hotel gold belt under his jacket, with his father proudly beaming beside him.

    Afterwards Elvis performed at Madison Square Garden, New York.

    The Real Story of Elvis Presley : In 1956 Vernon and Gladys Talked About Raising Young Elvis

     

    Young Elvis Presley had become a phenomenon, and in the fall of 1956, the New York Daily Mirror decided it was time to give him a serious look. And so in early September, columnist Sidney Fields headed down to Memphis to gather material for a series of articles in the Mirror. He didn't get a chance to talk with Elvis, who was in Hollywood shooting Love Me Tender at the time, but Fields was able to get an extensive interview with Elvis' parents, who invited him into the Presley home. That interview with Gladys and Vernon Presley was the basis for a five-part expose entitled 'The Real Story of Elvis Presley', which ran in the Daily Mirror from September 23-27, 1956.
