It's official !!! :) Belinda Carlisle Returns With "Voila!" An Album of Classic French Chansons and Pop Standards, Carlisle's Rykodisc Debut Is Set for Release on February 6, 2007 NEW YORK, NY -- (MARKET WIRE) -- October 10, 2006 -- Belinda Carlisle's "Voila!," her first new album in a decade, and her first record sung entirely in French, is a radical departure for the pop diva and lead singer of the Go-Go's. Working with producer John Reynolds (U2, Sinéad O'Connor, Indigo Girls, Hothouse Flowers), Carlisle has fashioned a traditional pop album that pays tribute to the classic French chansons and pop music of the '40s, '50s and '60s. Just in time for Valentine's Day, the album is set for release on February 6, 2007. "After I moved to France, I became familiar with the classic French chansons and a lot of French pop music," Carlisle explains. "I realized there was a whole world of artists and singers I was not familiar with. As I discovered all these amazing songs, I came to love this music and wanted to record some of them with a playful, contemporary feel." Carlisle and Reynolds went into the studio with a musical dream team including Brian Eno on keyboards, guitarist Fianchna O'Braonain (Hothouse Flowers), Sharon Shannon, the Irish button accordion player who incorporates reggae, tango and calypso into her music, Julian Wilson (Grand Drive) on piano, Hammond B-3, strings, keyboards and world music star Natacha Atlas (Transglobal Underground) on backing vocals. "We wanted to try everything, no holds barred," Carlisle says. "Since this is not a pop project, we were free to experiment. We played with every song, trying all sorts of instrumentation and different styles of arranging and everything clicked. The only definite idea I had was that I wanted to sing with an accordion. Other than that, there was no conscious effort to cover as much creative ground as we could; we just played around with things and had a blast." The creative energy Carlisle and Reynolds brought to the project is evident on every track. Carlisle's smoky vocals and the diverse arrangements imbue the songs with a simmering Gallic soul. "Sous Le Ciel De Paris (Under Paris Skies)" sounds like a street carnival waltz with its mournful accordion and eerie keyboard accents, Francoise Hardy's "Pourtant Tu M'aimes" gets recast as a new wave rocker, "La Vie En Rose" bounces along on a driving disco backbeat and "Jezebel" sounds like the twang-drenched theme song from a spaghetti western. Songs like "Ne Me Quitte Pas" and "Avec Le Temps" are closer to their original incarnations, wrenching emotional statements made more intense by Carlisle's understated delivery. "You don't really have to know what's being sung to know that 'Avec Les Temps' is a devastating love song," Carlisle says. "When I heard that song the first time, it broke my heart." Carlisle's first venture into French music proves once again that good songs are universal -- timeless expressions of the human soul that need no translation to work their exhilarating magic. From Billboard Nas Drafts Kanye, will.i.am, Marley For New 'Hip-Hop' New York rapper Nas is close to putting the finishing touches on his Def Jam debut, "Hip-Hop Is Dead ... The N," due Dec. 19. The album features collaborations with Kanye West, Dr. Dre, the Game, Damien "Jr. Gong" Marley and, as previously reported, the Black Eyed Peas' will.i.am, who produced the Iron Butterfly-sampling title track. On that song, Nas claims to be "on my second marriage / hip-hop's my first wife," and also cleverly references his new home: "Like my girl Foxy, a n**** went Def." The cut lifts the immortal riff from Iron Butterfly's "Inna Gadda Davida." Another track, "White Man's Paper," is pounding, reggae-influenced cut with a thick, dubby bassline, while "Still Dreamin'" finds Nas trading verses with West. "QB True G" boasts the talents of the Game on the mic and Dr. Dre behind the boards. "Hip-Hop Is Dead" will be the follow-up to 2004's "Streets Disciple," which peaked at No. 5 on The Billboard 200 and has sold 699,000 copies in the United States, according to Nielsen SoundScan. From Undercover Kylie Homecoming Details Revealed by Daniel Zugna October 10 2006 Some of the details surrounding Kylie Minogue’s homecoming tour have been revealed. The Showgirl tour has been re-titled Showgirl Homecoming, with new rehearsals having begun in London in August. Whilst the musical content will retain the Greatest Hits theme, Kylie has revealed that the show will be completely revamped, with new lighting, new costumes and new choreography. Kylie said, “Every tour has its own feeling and its own atmosphere. Each tour is a moment in time. Showgirl Homecoming will be about the people and the emotions on the night – it’s that element which will be the most unpredictable and the most beautiful.†The $2.5 million stage is being rebuilt to accommodate the new show, which will be choreographed by the internationally renowned Michael Rooney (who worked on the video for Kylie’s ‘Can’t Get You Out Of My Head’), Rafael Bonachela (Kylie’s long-time collaborator) and British-Bangladeshi Akram Khan (renowned for his fusion of traditional Indian and modern dancing styles). I'm taking a break form the Album Release Schedule. It's true ! :) My University years are over and I have to move on, find a job and so on... I wouldn't have enough time to compile the Album Schedule, so I'm taking a break. It's a job that requires a lot of dedication and goodwill. I simply don't have the time to do it the usual way, the way I've always done it. It's more than 3 years I'm doing it, here and there. It quite started as a joke, something to add to the "Official" one, then it simply grew up. And I'm proud to say it includes as many new releases as I can find. 'Cause my attitude has always been to take care of anyone: I know the Schedule is UK-centered, but the readers are from all over the world: from Uk, obviously, from Europe, from US and so on... Another point of view was to take care of the fans, the ones who desperately tries to find everything... how many edition Kylie's Body Language has ? And Nelly Furtado's Loose ? A lot, I guarantee ! And theyhave been all listed ! Just like reissues (for old fans and new ones, too !). And Special Editions, too (the planning of cds to buy ain't that easy for a lot of us!). I know the TBA list is quite long, but those cds are about to be released, so they are there :) (I am prod to say that a lot of releasedates on the TBA section turned to be the real one :) ) So, I want to take everyone of you who gave tips, infos, links, and critics, too. It Won't Be Soon Before Long is the title of the new Maroon 5 album. It will be out on Nov 14 and it's produced by Mike Elizondo and Spike Stent. Ryan has left the band. From EW: The curse of a hit single is that you have to play that tune every...single...night. Maroon 5's Adam Levine has suffered this affliction. ''I can play 'This Love' in my sleep, blindfolded, underwater, bound and gagged,'' he jokes about the tune that transformed the quintet from struggling funk-rockers into one of the biggest blue-eyed-soul acts since Hall & Oates. Fortunately for Levine, when the L.A. band begins its next tour, it'll have a whole new batch of songs to draw from. Specifically, those from their second album, tentatively titled (according to Levine) It Won't Be Soon Before Long. That nonsensical moniker was inspired by their frantic concert schedule over the past four years. ''Towards the very end [of the tour] we were just fried and we needed to keep ourselves motivated,'' says Levine. '''It won't be soon before long' felt like a nice mantra to help me accept the reality that this wasn't going to get any easier.'' After playing some 700 gigs around the globe while promoting Songs About Jane, their 2002 quadruple-platinum debut, the band returned to L.A. last fall. They unpacked, did laundry, and headed into the studio with a production team including Mike Elizondo (Fiona Apple's Extraordinary Machine) and veteran U.K. mixer/engineer Spike Stent (U2, Madonna). ''I think our first album was a little weak and limp at times,'' says Levine. ''Mike and Spike made the new one pound a lot harder. It's sexier and stronger. We're taking sexy back!'' While maintaining their pop vibe, the new CD is more hyperactive and flirts with '80s-style grooves influenced by Talking Heads and Controversy-era Prince. A possible first single is the revenge fantasy ''Wake Up Call,'' which Levine describes as ''a darker, slightly reggae-tinged version of 'This Love.' I like the possibility that this could be a radio-friendly, accessible club banger, but it's about double murder!'' Unlike the straight-from-the-diary lyrics of Jane, Maroon 5's sophomore disc isn't based on a specific bout of relationship drama. ''The songs are still very personal, but there's no 'Jane' this time,'' says Levine. ''[The songs] are just a culmination of all the craziness that's been taking place in my life over the past four years...and it's obviously been pretty insane.'' From Billboard New Beck Album Denied U.K. Chart Eligibility October 04, 2006, 5:45 PM ET Chris M. Walsh, N.Y. Beck's new Interscope album, "The Information," could sell a million copies next week and still not be considered for placement on the U.K. album chart. The U.K.'s Official Chart Company (OCC) has ruled that the album contains cover art and packaging that give it an "unfair advantage" and therefore will not be eligible to chart in the region. The unique packaging includes four random sticker sets designed by artists handpicked by Beck, allowing fans to customize their own album covers. "It's an unconventional package, but it shouldn't be penalized for that," says Beck. "Any art on a CD is an incentive to buy and listen. Ultimately, it doesn't matter. The response from the fans has been so strong, and that is the most important thing." The problematic packaging will not provoke an omission from any Billboard chart, according to director of charts/senior analyst Geoff Mayfield. LifeLight
