from Billboard Good Charlotte Awakens To New 'Morning' September 15, 2006, 2:15 PM ET Gary Graff, Detroit Rock act Good Charlotte has just finished recording its fourth album, "Good Morning Revival," due in February via Epic. The quintet will give fans a taste of the album soon, however, with the Internet release of the track "Keep Your Hands Off My Girl" and by playing some of the new songs on a 21-date tour that kicks off Sept. 27 in San Francisco. "It sounds like Good Charlotte," frontman Joel Madden tells Billboard.com matter-of-factly about the Don Gilmore-produced album. "It sounds older. We sound more comfortable." But, he adds, it allows follows the ambitious and experimental path the group took on its last album, 2004's "The Chronicles of Life and Death." "I think it's definitely in line with that," Madden says. "We definitely took a lot more steps forward. We went way left, though; it sounds way different. It's melodic. It's upbeat. It's kind of dance-y at some times. I think it's still very ambitious for us." Madden describes "Keep Your Hands Off My Girl" as "just a fun song" that was inspired by his club DJ stints over the past couple of years. "I was kind of joking around with some friends and said 'I want to make a song I can hear in the club,'" says the singer, whose own "girl" is actress/singer Hilary Duff. "So I wrote this song and it [making] the record." Madden says Good Charlotte will make several different versions of the song available online, remixed by Junior Sanchez and others. At the upcoming shows, Good Charlotte will roll out some of the new tracks, along with "old songs from the first record, songs we normally wouldn't play," according to Madden. The tour, he says, is "a surprise little thing, just for the fans so they could come see us play before we put out the record and the real promotion starts. We feel really fortunate we have the time to do it, and we're excited about." A more extensive tour is in the works for early next year, once "Good Morning Revival" is out. LifeLight

From the sun Jake's got a crush on Rooney SEPTEMBER 16, 2006 SCISSOR SISTERS frontman JAKE SHEARS revealed to me he has serious hots for WAYNE ROONEY. The gay singer gushed: “I think Wayne Rooney is totally hot — he’s so sexy. “I don’t know anything about football. I know who DAVID BECKHAM is but I think Wayne is really, really cute — totally my cup of tea.†Jake made the astonishing confession as I chatted to him in his hotel suite ahead of the band’s huge gig in London’s Trafalgar Square tonight. He is on a high because the band are enjoying their first No1 single in the UK with I Don’t Feel Like Dancin’. On top of that their new album is on course to outsell the ARCTIC MONKEYS when it hits stores on Monday. Jake, who is in a long-term relationship with partner Chris, said bandmate ANA MATRONIC thinks he is crazy to fancy the Man United striker. But he told me: “Those World Cup ads with the England flag where Wayne’s half naked I thought, ‘Gosh you’re so hot!’ “I’d rather dance with him than his girlfriend anyway.†You can just hear the chants on the terraces now — not to mention the stick Rooney will get in the Old Trafford dressing room. I Don’t Feel Like Dancin’ is probably the happiest sounding song in the charts right now — its energy and enthusiasm are simply irresistible. But as I revealed in July, Jake wrote the song during a bout of depression when he was at his lowest ebb. He was on such a comedown after the success of the Scissors’ self-titled debut album he considered throwing himself into New York’s Hudson river. Jake explained to me the full reasons behind his sadness. He said: “I felt a lot of pressure to come up with a great second album. It was scary, like a voice that would nag and nag and nag. “I had butterflies in my stomach all the time and I couldn’t listen to music without having a panic attack.†Jake is one of most remarkably upbeat people I’ve ever met. Each time I’ve talked to him he’s been so high on life that it’s hard to imagine him curled up on the couch at home, refusing to go out. But that’s what happened. He explained: “I knew something was wrong because I couldn’t watch movies, read books or even listen to music. “I was no fun to be around. But thankfully my boyfriend and friends were all so patient with me that eventually I came through it.†Jake said bandmate BABYDADDY — real name SCOTT HOFFMAN — came up with the title for their No1 single but the lyrics are all about how the singer was feeling at the time. He adds: “We wanted a song that was going to make you feel good — a great pop song. “But I didn’t want to write another Filthy Gorgeous because it wouldn’t have been true to how I was feeling.†I think the new album, Ta-Dah, is going to be the biggest UK seller of the year. There is a wealth of strong, catchy pop songs on it, not to mention the beautiful ballad Land Of A Thousand Words, the band’s next single. As well as devoting himself to promoting Ta-Dah, Jake has also found time to go into the studio with his friend KYLIE MINOGUE to write songs for her new album. The pair have become very close and Jake was a tower of strength for her when she was diagnosed with breast cancer last year. He admits he was “terrified†when she told him about her illness but insists he had faith in her strength. He says: “The news absolutely terrified me. But I told Kylie that she had so much fantastic energy and power spiritually that she was going to overcome this. “I just had absolute faith there was no way she wasn’t going to make it out the other end.†Kylie has been lined up to introduce Jake, Ana, Babydaddy, DEL MARQUIS and PADDY BOOM on stage tonight. Jake says the Pop Princess is overjoyed to be making music again following her illness. And he believes she is never given enough credit for having an amazing voice. Chris’s golden touch and the return of Jay-Z — who claimed he had hung up his mic as a solo artist in 2004 — is a collaboration fans of both Coldplay and rap will want to hear. A source told me: “Chris has been a huge hip-hop fan for years and is really switched on to the scene in America. “He was approached by Jay-Z and jumped at the chance to work with him so he could test himself as a hip-hop producer. He loves a challenge and this has arrived at the perfect time, during a break from Coldplay.†Jay-Z has enlisted some of the biggest names in rap to help produce the album — including KANYE WEST, DR DRE and hitmaker TIMBALAND. Jay-Z, also the boss of the Def Jam label, had codenamed the new album “Project Superman.†While it might seem an unlikely project for Chris, he has earned the right to be mentioned together with rap superstars such as Dre and Timbaland. From Billboard Moby Compiles His 'Best' For Two-Disc Set September 13, 2006, 4:05 PM ET Jonathan Cohen, N.Y. Moby has set an Oct. 24 release for the V2 collection "Go: The Very Best Of," which will include a disc of hits and a second featuring remixes. The album features the previously unreleased "New York, New York," with vocals from Blondie's Debbie Harry. "It's a song about degeneracy and debauchery in New York City, and I'm incredibly honored and happy to have Debbie Harry doing the vocals," Moby writes on his Web site. "I kind of wanted it to sound like ABBA meets the Pet Shop Boys." Beyond hits like "South Side," "Honey" and "Natural Blues," "Go" also includes a new mix of its title song, which brought Moby to national prominence in 1992. The remix disc sports reworkings by Ferry Corsten, Timo Maas, Tiesto, Jason Nevins, Mylo and Steve Agnello, among others. As previously reported, Moby will make a rare DJ appearance Sept. 22 as part of the Ultra NY event at New York's Central Park. "I will invariably be put to shame by the other DJs who actually know what they're doing but it should be fun nonetheless," he writes.
