From Undercover Peter Buck Teams With Robyn Hitchcock For New Album by Paul Cashmere July 27 2006 The next recorded work of REM member Peter Buck will be with psych folk singer songwriter Robyn Hitchcock. Hitchcock’s new album ‘Ole Tarantula’ also features as its core band REM touring member Scott McCaughey and Bill Riefin of Minus 5. As a group, they are known as Venus 3. "We sound like a smart garage band, to my ears, when we play live," says Hitchcock of his line-up. "The record is a little more tidy, but they still rock, and rock me along with them. This is the rockingest record I've made in years." Guest include Morris Windsor from Hitchcock’s former band The Egyptians, Kimberly Rew of Soft Boys, Ian McLagen from The Faces, Chris Ballew from Presidents of the USA and Sean Nelson from Harvey Danger. The frustrated pub singer took a year off from his telly career to work his way around the pop circuit. And after befriending a string of music stars, his pal SHARLEEN SPITERI has launched a campaign to Show Him The Way to get his debut album to No1. The TEXAS singer is pushing Peter to record a load of compilations with his crowd of chart-topping pals. Peter appeared on Sharleen’s video for her Top Ten single Sleep after they met at Live 8. Now it seems she has become his musical adviser. Sharleen told me: “Peter is amazing, he’s become one of my really good friends. When he asked me if he could appear in the video for Sleep I thought he was having a laugh. “But it was one of the funniest things I’ve ever done. He loves music and going to gigs, it’s getting a bit obsessive. “Peter’s got so many mates in the music industry now so I’ve told him to get an album together. the new Faithless album is called To all New Arrivals and it will be out on Oct 16 ! Source: 'One Week To Live magazine' Sister Bliss: We've just started making a new Faithless album and we've actually tried out a couple of singers from MySpace, which was quite exciting. Really nice to meet them, though they wernt quite right for what we were doing, but there's proper talent on there. We've written for different ways for each album but generally what happens is I go off and make a load of backing tracks and we sit though them and find the best things about them and kind of break them down and build them up. Y'know Rollo will say: "That's definately the bridge" or "That bit's definately the chorus"... and that's kind of how we do it really. He's good at writting lyrics as well, so we think the song titles and try to find something to say. We've just started making a new Faithless album and for me, with MySpace and with music generally, there is so much out there to choose from, that we have to do something that stands out and is outstanding and there's a point to it existing. When we're making an album we generally find that a theme will come through or we start off with something in particular. We wern't going to make, but then I had this really sleepless night and this idea inged into my brain...a sort of title for the album and I got really excited. Rollo was in LA at the time and I called him up saying: "Ive just got this idea". We did really well with the 'Greatest Hits' album and the record company kinda wanted to keep the momentum going, but Maxi really wanted the year off to do his motor racing (Porshe GT's) and Renaissance had been asking me to do this compilation for... it must be nearly two years now. Anyhow, we're taking this year to kinda live again, get back in the studio and have some fun! LifeLight
