  1. Hardly fair to compare this to Prometheus, these films are pursuing quite different audiences... Mind you some of the action scenes in this film do seem to be more than a little inspired by Ridley Scott's style, not saying that's a bad thing, if you're going to be influenced, then take inspiration from one of the best...

Forget John Carter, this will be the Sci Fi event of the year by a mile... Good to see Ridley getting back in the Sci-Fi saddle again...
  3. More Royal News... Princess Kate flounces around in a nice frock, smiles a bit and then opens something or other.... Oh, you mean that IS what she really does.....

And that's meant to be a justification..? Sorry, I dont follow that line of thought at all.. How do you incentivise a work-force by paying them peanuts... I rather think that if you pay peanuts you get monkeys..... -_-

Not really if they claw it back elsewhere though... It just seems to me like giving with one hand and grabbing even more with the other....

I'm an occasional social smoker, I maybe get through a pack of 10 over the course of two or three club nights, depending on how many of my mates are outside smoking themselves.. TBH, I couldn't honestly care less about the price of fags, the way I look at it is, it's costing the NHS billions each year to treat smoking related illnesses, so I think that there should be fairly punitive taxes on it.. Mind you, if the bloody NHS "reforms" end up destroying the NHS, then it's going to be hard to justify the punitive taxes on fags....

Tax cuts for the rich at the expense of pensioners.... Really, really nasty...... <_< If they actually wanted to do something for the economy, they should have brought back the 10p rate of tax for low paid workers, it's not as if the top earners are exactly the ones who are going to revitalise the High Streets and spend in local economies.. They'll be taking skiing holidays, buying Italian fashions and sports cars, and buying expensive imported goods.... -_-
  8. Queen and Duke in parliamentary lift surprise http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-17450366 The Queen had a longer than expected trip in a lift following her speech in Parliament, the BBC has learned. She and the Duke of Edinburgh had just attended a reception on the first floor of the Palace of Westminister before they entered the lift to get to the ground floor, where a car was waiting. However, rather than descending, it went up and only reached the intended destination after three false starts. Both the House of Lords and Buckingham Palace refused to comment. (comment on what??? NOTHING HAPPENED) The Queen's address to both Houses of Parliament was made to commemorate her Diamond Jubilee. She later went to a reception of peers and MPs. After leaving she, the Duke and Black Rod - a parliamentary official - boarded the Sovereign's Lift. According to sources in the Lords, instead of going down, it went up one floor. The doors opened, revealing the royal party to a somewhat surprised peer who was waiting for it to arrive. The doors then closed - and it went up again - this time to the third floor, where the parliamentary archives are located. Finally the lift descended, but only as far as the floor where the Queen had originally boarded it. After three false starts, she was taken down to the ground floor, where she and the Duke were able to get out. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This is just.........SHITE.... Absolute dribbling, trivial, pathetic SHITE.... Are we really paying qualified, professional correspondants money to write this absolute tat...??? I honestly had to look up the calendar to see if it wasn't April 1st tbh, or if the link wasn't actually for Newsthump, Daily Mash or The Onion.... Because, it definitely reads like someone taking the piss..... But, no, it's the BBC, and they just seem to dribble any old Royal-related rubbish as a matter of course. It's just getting embarrassing now...

    No chance mate....
  10. Russia Today's Alyona Minkovski actually talks about the 16 victims and gives them names... Something the Mainstream media certainly hasn't bothered itself to do, they just seem to be content to pore over every minute detail of the alledged killer and psychoanalyze him to death.... junH6KPY2-4

I sense a possible DVD extra.....  I would actually like to see this version of the film, with English subtitles so I can understand the Russian, naturally....
  12. But what right did NATO have to interfere in an internal Serbian matter..? It's all very easy to paint the Serbs as the comedy villains of the Former Yugoslavia, but the truth is far less comfortable and far more complicated than the "official" narrative of the NATO and the US.... For a start, many wanted Kosovan war-criminals and gangsters are now in positions of power in Kosovo... This is hardly a shining example of Humanitarian Intervention... If this is the best that Humanitarian Intervention has to offer as an example, then I'm afraid it's still a fail, IMO...
  13. Precisely, the intervention has certainly not had the desired effect in Kosovo, not only that, violent flashpoints between Kosovan Serbs and Albanians still occur, there were reports on Russia Today last year of Serb civilians being targetted by Albanians... Naturally, this was not covered on any Western news agency, because then the West would have to admit that Kosovo is far from being the success story that UN and NATO have made it out to be...
  14. You dont have a "viewpoint" though... You're making excuses for war-crimes, and IF there are mitigating circumstances then it's up to an open and transparent war-crimes tribunal to decide what those are..... ALL soldiers see really bad shit happen - my cousin saw three of his mates die in front of him in Iraq - they dont all do stuff like this, end of story... I notice you dont even bother to address the point I made about a war crimes tribunal in the Hague.... My main objection is to the fact that he's back in America. That simply is not good enough, now I still dont really see why he cant be held for trial in and Afghan court, but I can accept a war-crimes hearing at The Hague, because it's a neutral venue and it's an acceptable compromise, although, clearly not to the Americans... The Americans looking after their own while they demand other give up their people to the mercy of the US court system in incredibly one-sided extradition deals... How about you address THAT point....? And specifically the point about Richard O' Dwyer... Quite frankly, I think that not only should we be demanding a re-negotiation of that treaty, we should also be demanding that ALL US service personnel suspected of war crimes should be subject to proceedings in The Hague.. And if this is not complied with, then UK should pull all troops out of Afghanistan. With immediate effect. Why should OUR troops be put in greater danger than they already are due to the fury and outrage that the Afghan people are feeling over this (and this is just one in a series of incidents that the Americans have been responsible for, this is hardly "winning hearts and minds"), which has already translated into one assassination attempt on a US politician. And all the while this guy's being shown all the understanding, Bradley Manning has been held, without trial, tortured, beaten and humiliated for blowing the whistle on US war atrocities in Iraq..... Absolutely f**king disgraceful.... When are we going to wake up and realise that "Humanitarian Intervention" doesn't work and is an utter farce and oxymoron....?

I just think the guy's treading water these days tbh.. I dunno, maybe I'm expecting too much, but I have to wonder just where the next "Beetlejuice" or "Edward Scissorhands", "Batman Returns" or "Ed Wood" is actually gonna come from... Mind you, Scorcese went through a bit of slump at one point, then pulled it back with The Departed, and has now just done the excellent "Hugo"... There's still time for Tim, I guess... But, it's just hard to see where it'll come from.... Dark Shadows aint it....
  16. This is part of that there "Expansionary Fiscal Retraction" that Yon Gideon Twat-features was talking about, isn't it...?
  17. I guess you'll have just as much sympathy for the psycho currently gunning down Jewish schoolkids in Toulouse presumably... Do you actually imagine any of these questions will be looked into by a CLOSED Military Tribunal. Christ, you're naive. Look at Abu Ghraib, yeah, apparently that was all down to a couple of low-level grunts. Case Closed... If not Afghanistan, how about The Hague War-crimes Tribunal? If it's good enough for former heads of state, it's good enough for a bloody Army Sergeant... You can logically argue that suicide bombers are also "not in their right mind".. After all, it does take quite a considerable amount of brainwashing, coercion and manipulation on the part of charsimatic "religious leaders" in order to convince intelligent, well educated young men (which a LOT of these suicide bombers actually are. FACT) to strap a kilo of C4 to themselves and detonate it on a tube or a bus. So, who's really responsible for that then..? I mean, I assume you wouldn't be suggesting that we just let one of these brainwashed sods off with a slap on the wrist and a visit from a social worker should we actually manage to catch one whose bomb doesn't work....

Oh, look, Tim Burton doing another "dark", "gothy" film.... And Helena Bonham Carter probably being a bit "mad" and "quirky" in it too... Christ, she's just become so type-cast now. One of the best British Actresses of her generation basically reduced to being the foil for her husband director who's frankly had his day over a decade ago now... I cant honestly say that I've really given a crap about a Tim Burton film since "Sleepy Hollow", and I seriously doubt this travesty of a genuinely classic Gothic Horror/Drama series is going to change my mind.. What I've seen of it just looks absolutely dreadful.....
  19. Yup, pretty much.... And the producers have cut it in order for it to get a 12 rating... I certainly wont waste my time, or 10 quid, seeing this at the cinema..... Download time.....
  20. ...And to add insult to to this disgusting war crime, the suspect of this massacre is now back in the US to face trial there and not in Afghanistan where he alledgedly committed his offences.... mf7A5S5BaCg Hey, America, give us back Richard O' Dwyer then... You bast*rds..... <_< Who wants to bet that this creep will spend less time in prison and get a far speedier trial than Bradley Manning....?
  21. It's Gideon Osborne. He's a Tory w*n**r, what do you think he's gonna do....? We need to have a general strike now... This is just getting ridiculous, we'll end up like workers in Greece if we let this crap continue....
  22. Precisely.. And having been to both Registry Office marriages and Civil Partnerships, I can report there really is very little difference between the two in essence. Seeing two gay friends of mine getting married was absolutely f***ing brilliant. It was one of the really early civil partnerships, and people there were just cheering.. You had to be there to just see how awesome it was... And, hey, guess what, they're still together... And, indeed, you are correct, a marriage is a declaration of love between two people to their families and friends, it's not a declaration of "hey, we're gonna start breeding"...
  23. National pay rates will be scrapped in budget http://www.telegraph.co.uk/finance/budget/...-in-budget.html George Osborne will say that public sector employees in poorer parts of the country should have their pay frozen until it is brought into line with local private sector workers. Mr Osborne originally intended to introduce local pay rates in April 2013, but has decided to bring the plans forward by a year in an attempt to boost growth. The move is likely to be met with a furious response from unions, which are already threatening industrial action over cuts to pensions. The Chancellor will publish figures that show that in some parts of England and Wales public sector workers earn almost a fifth more than those in equivalent jobs in the private sector. The Treasury argues that the pay gap leaves private companies struggling to compete for the best staff against public sector organisations, whose workers also enjoy better pensions and job security. Officials believe that introducing local pay for public sector workers will make it easier for companies to hire staff and stimulate growth. “George really wants to 'up’ it on this,” said a Treasury source. “It should help some firms to hire staff in areas where public sector pay is much higher.” Under current national pay deals, public sector workers performing the same role receive the same salary across England and Wales, with an additional allowance for working in London. Mr Osborne’s reforms will lead to workers outside the South East being paid less. The plans will initially affect 160,000 civil servants working in Jobcentres, the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency and border guards at ports and airports. However, Mr Osborne will announce plans to roll out local pay rates affecting six million public sector workers — including teachers and hospital staff — from next year. Officials will begin negotiating local pay deals with most civil servants after they reach the end of a two-year pay freeze in July, with any pay settlements likely to be backdated to February. The move could result in the pay of public sector workers in some areas being frozen for a number of years. The Treasury’s analysis highlights the stark difference between public and private sector pay in England and Wales. In Wales, public sector workers are paid on average 18 per cent more than private sector workers doing the equivalent job. In Yorkshire and the Humber and the East of England the difference is 13 per cent, while in the North East the pay gap is 11 per cent. The difference in the South East is only 0.5 per cent. The imposition of local pay negotiations will anger unions, which criticised the proposal when it was unveiled in last year’s Autumn Statement. Brendan Barber, the TUC general secretary, said the move would “suck demand out of local economies, increase joblessness and worsen the North-South divide”. Members of the Public and Commercial Services Union, which represents civil servants, overwhelmingly rejected the Government’s latest offer on pensions yesterday, setting the stage for a fresh round of industrial action. Nine out of 10 of those who took part in the ballot rejected the proposals for a new pension scheme. More than seven out of 10 backed continuing the campaign, including further industrial action. The National Union of Teachers said it was calling a one-day strike in London on March 28 as the next step in its pensions campaign. Mr Osborne, however, is determined to push ahead with the reforms to pay and pensions. The Treasury wants to base the plans on a local-pay system introduced for staff in courts under the previous government. The Coalition’s plans were backed by the Institute for Fiscal Studies, which said local pay rates would be more “efficient”. However, it warned that local pay rates would need to be carefully implemented because of variations in different occupations. Doctors and dentists will be unaffected. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ...And they seek to impoverish the workers even further... Howabout you RAISE the minimum wage to bring people in the private sector out of the "working poor" poverty trap you bast*rds....? Is this what Ian Duncan Donut calls "making work pay"..?? What a joke... This is the sort of stuff that's happening to workers in Greece, Ireland and Portugal... This stinks of Technocrat, Neo-Liberast bullshit.... The workers yet again being forced to pay for the mistakes of the financial sector... Who are getting away Scot-free with their massive bonuses and Tax Avoidance schemes.... This DISGUSTS me..... <_< <_< <_< I fully expect to see Tory and Lib Dem Cabinet members and MPs taking pay cuts and cuts to their pensions in that case.... Oh, mind you, the likes of Cameron, Osborne and Clegg could actually afford to work for free given they're all f**king minted anyway and come from money...... <_< <_<
  24. Precisely, one has only to look at the regressive attitudes of people like Rick Santorum and Michelle Bachmann who wear their crazy religious zealotry on their sleeves and dont believe in a separation of Church and State, oh of course, by "church", that means the Christian Church, not any other kind, even though the USA is made up of immigrants from all corners of the earth and the only indigenous culture is the Native American, who are certainly not Christian. Considering some of their incredibly rancid opinions, then they ironically have a downer on Sharia Law, well, a State under the control of Christian religious fundamentalists would sure as Hell not be all that essentially different to a State under the control of Sharia Law...
