  1. Look - the point is Madonna's next single will be bigger than a lowly #19. Comprende?
  2. Madonna's last album reached #2 (despite being heavily leaked twice) and Gaga's got to #3 so that's pretty comparable tbh, both have sold under 100k. Singles wise, for their most recent new material,The Cure got to #19 and Living For Love got to #26 so not much in it again. Both, as I've said before are now no longer tour de force's in the singles chart. Anyway, this argument is pointless; listen to Two Steps Behind and you'll see why, comparing Madonna to Gaga is like comparing filet mignon to procesessed sausage
  3. Madonna's last album got to #2 Gaga's got to #3, sorry but your argument is flawed. Both Gaga and Madge haven't had a UK #1 single this decade... Both are now no longer UK singles trailblazers; the only difference is that Madonna is the biggest female Uk chart star of all time and Gaga is two steps behind.
  4. Gaga's last proper solo album, her fourth was Joanne - worldwide sales 1 million..... 0 UK top tens Whilst Madonna's fourth proper solo studio album was Like A Prayer - worldwide sales in excess of 15 million.... 4 UK top tens Madonna has had her career; she's now a legend and the World's Best Selling Female Artist of all time. So, really Gaga is last decades news...Reductive all the way baby! Since when was a #19 charting single something to celebrate!!!!! :yahoo:
  5. Two Steps - Madonna - brilliant diss at a copycat once-popular female singer - LOVE IT :yahoo:
  6. Ha!!!! Since when is coming 15th something to be proud of?!! 15th is a terrible result for a country that has arguably the best pop music pedigree in Europe. We've come 2nd 15 times and won it 5 times, so 15th is a resounding failure; granted it's better than last year! Granted the UK, struggle now with the perception of us in Europe. Granted it's very hard for us to score highly without any real politically alligned neighbours (damn you Ireland :-) !!!) The fact is, the UK keeps getting it wrong, and has done now for a very long time, and there will be many solutions offered up as to why. My betting is next year, middle-aged Gary Barlow will be given the task of writing the song, the following year it will be someone equally out of touch. Sending Englebert, Bonnie etc were terrible decisions. We just need a great song and a great performer (and a gimmick or two wouldn't harm things). It's not rocket science. But please let's not celebrate 15th. At best we can be glad it's not last, but we need to aim for first; like Sweden do. We're better than 15th.
  7. And we were right...... irreparable damage was done to the chart.

Explain this interesting article re the BBC itself - I state for the last time, it's a problem for the BBC, and BBC radio 1 especially: https://www.theguardian.com/media/2014/nov/...-gagging-clause

In your opinion; but you are NOT right and this is a discussion forum is it not? Your post sounds like a threat to me.... and I will say the same thing if it's true. Using the word 'Idiot' was wrong, I should have gone with 'sheep'.

Gaga, as a Female in the 30's is no longer relevant to what seems to be age-obssessed, mysognistic Radio 1, she's likely gone from their radar for good. And before any idiot references Beyonce, her days of being playlisted as she nudges ever closer to 40 are numbered too.
  11. Love Katy but not loving 'Bon Appetit', hopefully will grow on me....
  12. I think 'The Cure' is awful too.... Gaga running out of steam.
  13. Lol agreed although she has the title of 'Best Selling Female Artist in the UK', a much more prestigious thing to have...

It's ridiculous that people DON'T think it's a BBC problem, it is. Ageism against Females has been a very widely held accusation leveled at the BBC for a number of years.... WAKE UP! http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-12161045 https://www.theguardian.com/media/2014/nov/...-gagging-clause https://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/bbc-in-n...row-6cdkrtk7zcs

I disagree with you completely..... and when I say soon, I mean around her 40th birthday. That's when BBC radio 1 will stop playing her new music, however great, however current and whomever has written and produced it. Beyonce is no exception.

You miss the point again... I said: Beyonce as a soon to be mother of 3 and nearing 40 and will soon fall victim as being deemed irrelevant - not right now, but in just a few years - not based on her music but on her age. Just wait and see, and please pay attention more to what I write if you want to comment on it.

No they do not.... Sia just about, and she is the exception at 41 (give her a year or two and she won't be played) What about anyone over 40? Beyonce as a soon to be mother of 3 and nearing 40 will fall victim to being deemed irrelevant soon; especially as she's not had a solo UK #1 in 9 years, just wait. Radio 1 thinks that because their listeners are in a demographic of 15-29, any female older than that wouldn't really be relevant to their demographic - without realising they are in effect reinforcing terrible ageist stereotypes instead of trying to lead a positive change in attitudes to women over 40.

Age has EVERYTHING to do with it, especially if you're a Female Artist and in your mid 30's or older - Radio 1 deem you irrelevant. It's a total double standard, as they will play music from older males, but rarely females. It seems to be a problem not just confined to BBC radio but BBC tv too - it was all over the press a few years back. Very sad in the supposed age of equality. Pure prejudice when you get a Female Singer who is deemed too old, yet her music is written/produced by Artists who are still playlisted, shocking when her music sounds just like other songs that are playlisted from younger artists... that's a terrible shame.

I don't like Symphony either; it sounds like a medicore Eurovision song - but rather that be #1 than Sheeran.... The Harry Styles song is actually pretty good!!!!
  20. Really not warmed to the Gaga track, another underwhelming release from her again.

Streaming killled the modern charts for me; as did allowing album tracks to chart on the singles chart....
  22. howiet1971 posted a post in a topic in UK Charts
What utter tosh! The Harry song is both credible and commerical, that's why it's doing well. Since when is releasing something as appaulingly generic like Shape Of You to be applauded?? Isn't it pretty questionable whether Sheeran has many original bones in his body - see yesterday's press! Sales do not equate to quality, nor do chart positions.
  23. howiet1971 posted a post in a topic in UK Charts
I'm rooting for Harry to be #1 - anyone but Sheeran please!

Equally glad 'Shape of you' gone.....
