  1. I like the Passions and Susan Fassbender too, but neither of them made the Top 20 so can't really be classed as 'big' hits. I also like "Heartache Avenue" by the Maisonettes and "Danger Games" by the Pinkees.
  2. Here you go... http://www.roxcalibur.com/pix/e10973.jpg
  3. Featuring one of Bob Holness' daughters :D

I remember the name but that's about it really. They had two Top 100 entries : "Hungry Town" (No.91) "The Breakaway" (No.89)

Just checked and they actually had five Top 100 hits : "Christina's World" (No.84) "Slide" (No.86) "European Rain" (No.78) "Miss America" (No.37) "Big Town" (No.94) So "Prospect Street" never even made the 100! Unbelievable :o
  7. OK, here are my views on that particular chart : TW LW Wks Title Artist 1 1 5 WAY DOWN Elvis Presley : Never been a fan but this still sounds OK. Wouldn't have got to No.1 if he hadn't died though. 2 5 5 MAGIC FLY Space : Good instrumental track, not to be confused with the '90s Scouse band of course. 3 2 8 FLOAT ON Floaters : Awful! The Barron Knights' parody during "Live In Trouble" was much better  4 12 3 OXYGENE IV Jean-Michel Jarre : Another good instrumental. I remember it being used as the theme to "Where There's Life" with Dr Miriam Stoppard. 5 14 4 DOWN DEEP INSIDE Donna Summer : Very strange track. Used as the theme to the film "The Deep". 6 3 10 ANGELO Brotherhood Of Man : Not as good as "Oh Boy (The Mood I'm In)". Again the Barron Knights did a better job of it. 7 6 8 NIGHTS ON BROADWAY Candi Staton : Not bad. She's being interviewed by David Jensen on Capital Gold as I type this! 8 10 SILVER LADY David Soul : Surprisingly good for him. Better than the dreary "Don't Give Up On Us" anyway. 9 8 7 THAT'S WHAT FRIENDS ARE FOR Deniece Williams : Not to be confused with the later song by Dionne Warwick & Friends. This was OK, but not as good as the No.1 "Free". 10 9 6 NOBODY DOES IT BETTER Carly Simon : Theme from the James Bond film "The Spy Who Loved Me". Not the best Bond theme but certainly not the worst either. 11 24 5 DO ANYTHING YOU WANNA DO Rods : Absolute classic! Can never understand why they became the Rods for this one song though (their biggest hit). 12 4 8 YOU GOT WHAT IT TAKES Showaddywaddy : Cover of the old Marv Johnson hit. Typical Showaddywaddy really. 13 7 10 THE CRUNCH Rah Band : Great instrumental. The TOTP appearance was a classic too. 14 15 5 DANCIN' IN THE MOONLIGHT Thin Lizzy : Not to be confused with that awful song that Toploader covered. This was recently used to advertise some brand of cider. 15 13 6 TULANE Steve Gibbons Band : Good bit of rock 'n' roll. Originally by Chuck Berry 16 26 3 TELEPHONE MAN Meri Wilson : Annoying! Not to be confused with Mary Wilson of the Supremes or '80s star Mari Wilson. 17 28 3 LOOKING AFTER NUMBER ONE Boomtown Rats : My favourite band when I was very young. They improved the following year though. 18 16 12 WE'RE ALL ALONE Rita Coolidge : It may be MOR but I like it. Originally by Boz Scaggs, though I think Rita sang it better. 19 27 3 GARY GILMORE'S EYES Adverts : Brilliant!! Their other hit "No Time To Be 21" was even better in my opinion. 20 21 6 SPANISH STROLL Mink DeVille : Another classic, even though it contains the dreadful line "Brother Johnny, he caught a plane and he got on it". 21 25 4 SUNSHINE AFTER THE RAIN Elkie Brooks : Never been keen on this. Later a dance hit for Berri/New Atlantic. 22 23 5 I THINK I'M GONNA FALL IN LOVE WITH YOU The Dooleys : This was a bit too MOR, but I must admit I do like their hits from 1979. 23 29 5 I CAN'T GET YOU OUT OF MY MIND Yvonne Elliman : Boring! 24 19 12 MA BAKER Boney M : Around this time we went on holiday to Blackpool and I went up to some people in the street and shouted "Freeze, I'm Ma Baker! Put your hands in the air and gimme all your money!" 25 30 5 DREAMER Jacksons : Forgettable! 26 11 10 I FEEL LOVE Donna Summer : A classic, but overplayed. I'd be happy to never hear it again. 27 1 BEST OF MY LOVE Emotions : Catchy I suppose. 28 17 7 SOMETHING BETTER CHANGE Stranglers : Great track. Love the intro. The other A-side "Straighten Out" was good too. 29 37 3 GIMMIE DAT BANANA Black Gorilla : Novelty c**p! 30 re 2 BLACK IS BLACK La Belle Epoque : Not keen on the song in any version. 31 1 ANOTHER STAR Stevie Wonder : I prefer his earlier stuff. 32 22 9 ROADRUNNER Jonathan Richman : Great, but overplayed. His first album is worth tracking down though. 33 36 3 PIPELINE Bruce Johnston : Instrumental from Beach Boys member. Forgot what it sounds like now. 34 38 3 LET'S CLEAN UP THE GHETTO Philadelphia International Allstars : Forgotten this one too. 35 34 4 DOWN THE HALL Four Seasons : Pleasant but not their best. 36 18 8 ALL AROUND THE WORLD The Jam : Great stuff. They hardly put a foot wrong in their five year recording career. 37 1 BLACK BETTY Ram Jam : Good rock track. Heard it too much though. 38 20 9 IT'S YOUR LIFE Smokie : One of their more listenable songs I suppose. 39 1 THUNDER IN MY HEART Leo Sayer : Underperformed at the time but more recently a No.1 in conjunction with Meck. One of Leo's better songs. 40 47 3 I GOT TO SING JALN Band : Forgettable disco.
  8. You're both wrong, it's spelt McCrae

"Prospect Street" was played a lot on the radio at the time so it's surprising it was never a hit.

One of the most boring songs of the '80s for me.
  11. Their highest charting single was actually "You Talk Too Much" (No.26 in 1993), but they will be best remembered for "Where's Me Jumper". By the way, "Sultans Of Swing" was not an '80s hit, it was 1979 :)
  12. Curved Air - "Back Street Luv" Can - "I Want More" Chris Spedding - "Motorbikin'" Duncan Browne - "Journey"
  13. You can't have Jonathan Richman as "Egyptian Reggae" was a bigger hit than "Roadrunner" :D
  14. Driver 67 - "Car 67"
  15. Earliest TOTP memories : Fox - "S-S-S-Single Bed" Cliff Richard - "Devil Woman" Rick Dees & His Cast Of Idiots - "Disco Duck" All 1976.
  16. No, the TOTP appearance has been wiped. That clip is from German TV.

I liked most of Howard's singles up to and including "Look Mama", though I think he went downhill after that.

    Where's Pete Seaton? :D
  25. No, it was Big Country and Heaven 17. Yeah, Madness were between hits at the time. Their next one was "Wings Of A Dove" - one of their worst!
