Friday Chart Predictions
Go isn't currently being played outside of chart show and Anthems. I'd imagine they'll start to pick it up on recurrent plays later this week if they do.

New physical purchases in 2026
Does anyone have or still buy music DVDs? They definitely feel less common but I picked up Basement Jaxx's The Videos recently for £5 from Rarewaves of all places and it made me wonder if anyone still goes out of their way to buy things like this? Concert DVDs/Blu Ray are probably more common nowadays. DVD singles were also a thing; I stumbled across The Streets - Blinded By The Lights in a local record shop with the video on disc.

Radio 1 Playlist (08/05/26): The saviour of rock music comes from Boston
Robyn coming up on almost 30 years of consistent support then!

Antony Szmierek - Decoding Birdsong
Big fan of this guy and I was happy to see an album announcement recently following the critical success of his debut. Antony Szmierek releases his second album Decoding Birdsong on 21st August with yet more of his poetic rap and spoken word over infectious dance beats. It is preceded by the singles 'The Heron' and 'Chalk' and includes collaborations with Australia’s Pretty Girl, London band Los Bitchos, and Bristol producer 1-800 GIRLS, as well as Imogen and the Knife and indie pop star Ellur.

Overmono - Pure Devotion
Album confirmed Pure Devotion coming this summer
-
Calvin Harris & Jazzy - Satisfy
It definitely screams summer. Is it catchy? Not really but it's enjoyable enough. Echoing the One Kiss similarities too.
-
The Chemical Brothers - Go
I love that this has happened on an anniversary week for the song too as it was originally released 4th May 2015

PinkPantheress - Fancy That
Girl Like Me now has a video

UK Local Elections | 7th May 2026
I went Independent this time. We have 3 councillors in our ward and one of which is already Independent, the other two are Greens. This vote was to replace a Green seat and the Independent candidate has been very strong in their community work leading up to this vote. I haven't seen anything from the other candidates at all so my vote went where I felt like the community was being seen and heard. It felt very refreshing not to vote for a specific party and their politics and just vote for an individual who cares about getting things done rather than political bias.

The Pitt
I feel like it works better when you can binge / watch more than one episode at a time? The pacing of weekly episodes I feel doesn't work, especially when there's no recap of what happened previously so you're stuck trying to work out who is who from 5 weeks ago.

Boards Of Canada - Inferno
Here's the first release from it today

Now That's What I Call Music!
In the famous words of Gemma Collins... "BORING, NEXT".
-
Calvin Harris & Jazzy - Satisfy
Not sure the words "Jazzy" and "endearing" have ever been said in the same sentence before as she's actually rather monotonous in her voice I think, but that's her style I guess and people have taken to it x

Saturday Night Live UK
Yay at that news. Glad it's continuing

Double-barrelled names in the chart
Does Lauren Spencer Smith count?
-
EastEnders
Denise made her first appearance 20 years ago this coming Monday (11th May). BBC Three are airing 5 significant episodes featuring her from 8pm on Monday (no GCSE episodes though boo).

EastEnders
LOL that was my immediate thought when this scene aired. Grant being all over Linda grossed me out. I had forgotten the whole flirty thing they had in 2016.
-
Heart FM Playlist 2026
Very surprised they've not picked up American Girls or even Dracula. Both are very popular songs. Surely the average Heart listener wants more than Alex Warren, Taylor Swift, Myles Smith and Benson Boone all day??
-
Calvin Harris & Jazzy - Satisfy
Vinyl available for pre-order. The digital/streaming availability is from this Friday.

Music magazines
Not sure if there's much to lean into these days, it's more one-off magazines for artists that often appear. Classic Pop magazine is still going, even in print, https://shop.classicpopmag.com/
