Two days ago when I was in Melbourne I won at pub trivia for the first time ever (have had many near misses), and one of the questions they asked was what the current #1 single on the ARIA Charts were, never been more locked in. The fanfare increases as now all 7 songs from the film are in the top 15, and the TWICE version of "Takedown" nearly made the top 50 too, perhaps they could have if this weren't a MONUMENTAL chart week. I haven't pulled out the 🚨 AUSTRALIAN MUSIC KLAXON 🚨 in quite a while, and some might argue that it's still fake, but in my mind it's so real. As mentioned last week, we recently encountered triple j's Hottest 100 Australian Songs countdown, which pulled in a massive 2.65 million votes (even our prime minister voted), and saw INXS's "Never Tear Us Apart" crowned victorious. Immediately after this, Port Adelaide, the AFL team who have been co-opting the song at their home games for the past decade suffered their worst ever defeat to their cross town rivals the Adelaide Crows on a day where the triple j & AFL subreddits occasionally were indistinguishable. They see themselves back into the top 30, but it's not the biggest re-entry as Crowded House's #5 finishing "Don't Dream It's Over" had a head start and will probably utilise its residual streaming power to stick the landing better as well. The most important part of all of this is that we do technically have a new Australian entry in the top 50 with the undisputed titan of Australian hip-hop, Hilltop Hoods' seminal 2003 single "The Nosebleed Section" finally becoming a top 50 hit. It never had a proper release in its day and so didn't impact the top 100 until 2009, and since then it's never gotten higher than #75 until now. The single is now 10xPlatinum but in case you're unfamiliar, it's a song built on a sample of Melanie's "People In The Front Row", Melanie sadly passed away last year. Pay respect to her in the Australian way by popping some sick BMX tricks if you get the chance. We also see some returns for high finishers in "Sweet Disposition", "Somebody That I Used To Know" and "My Happiness". Ahead of all of this is our only truly new entry of the week from Drake & Central Cee. I just want to note that the other day I saw a tweet with over half a million views on Twitter that falsely suggested (with no Community Note) Spotify's recent audit removed 6 million streams from this song, which is a reminder to anyone reading this to be cautious in accepting anything online, especially if it's deliberately pushing a narrative that benefits you. If you don't like Drake, you shouldn't need to make up reasons to justify it. The KPop Demon Hunters soundtrack continues to rule the roost, one would think that its lead has just gotten bigger, given that Justin Bieber climbed to #2 and his stuff is declining. We've got more Australian news on the debut front. Tim Minchin scores his 2nd top 5 album with an album that might trick you into thinking it's an anagram if you don't think about it too hard. He had a #3 album in 2020. Also take your canvas bags to the supermarket. Sir, a second solo 5SOS album has hit the top 10 this year. This time it's from Michael Clifford who enters at #10. Now every member of the band has had a top 50 album, just Ashton couldn't make the top 10. Alice Cooper returns to the chart as a full band for the first time in nearly half a century, to differentiate from solo Alice Cooper who charts pretty regularly. A band I've been quite fond of this year, Folk Bitch Trio lands their first ever chart appearance. They are in fact a trio who make folk music. Madonna comes through with her new remix album, while Freddie Gibbs gets his first ever top 50 album. We also see a return for possibly the last time for INXS's "The Very Best", an album noteworthy to me as I think it might be the only album in history to have charted at every single position from #1 to #100, and it may not be unrealistic to say this might never happen again. I'm gonna miss my leading zero.

His last #1 hit was "STAY.", but before as a lead artist was "Peaches". This suggests "rosalinas" will come next. In the more immediate future though, KPop Demon Hunters are not fond of how many tattoos Biebs has (think that's how it works) and will be trying to take the top spot next week. In a manner that I don't see commented on very much, "DAISIES" had another one of those suspicious isolated 2nd week climbs and has rapidly been declining this week. Possibly it would've been #1 anyway but it makes me wonder. HUNTR/X also now do have a second top 10 hit as "How It's Done" makes up for its two weeks at #11. They're also joined by Alex Warren who scores his 2nd top 10 hit, the new album bolstering him to 4 songs in the top 50 this week when he was threatening to only have 1 otherwise. We've only got 4 weeks left before I make the same Expedition 33 joke again, and we could be seeing some very interesting things next week thanks to triple j's Hottest 100 Australian Songs countdown. You should check it out because I reckon unless you live here, there's bound to be a mix of songs you're very familiar with and others you aren't, but are nestled between them as if to suggest they're just as worth your time. I'm a big endorser of Australian music and this is 50 odd years of quintessential selections. KPop Demon Hunters makes it 3 weeks at #1, not particularly surprising as its streaming numbers are still increasing. Alex Warren gave it a good shot and climbs to #2 with his expanded album. Tyler, The Creator hit #1 last time with his mid-week strategy but this time has to settle for #4. Jessie Murph scores her first ever top 50 album at a not too shabby #12, while ROLE MODEL also shows up for the first time at #44

Just want to note that in case anyone thought otherwise, CYRIL isn't white, and it's rather offensive to say that he is (short answer: Australian history is not fun). Ditto The Kid LAROI as another popular Indigenous artist that passes as white. To be on topic, thought the movie was quite fun, and I love seeing REI AMI topping global charts, quite liked some of her stuff years ago.

Despite the fact it'll likely increase in points next week, it's very likely it'll drop down to #3 next week with thanks to this week's big arrival from Justin Bieber. "DAISIES" looks to get the job done next week with a healthy showing. It just remains to be seen if this is one of those suspect 2nd week climbs and it's gonna collapse afterwards. I'm surprised to say the KPop Demon Hunters climbs are still healthy again, so I can't rule out "Golden" from the top spot if these trends continue. Saja Boys actually have more top 10 hits than HUNTR/X now because "Soda Pop" has leapfrogged over "How It's Done", a very unlucky #11 peak if it remains that way. In the world of actual K-Pop, BLACKPINK have lived up to their usual tendency to utilise strong YouTube views to debut a little higher than projected. For a second week, the KPop Demon Hunters soundtrack is #1. They manage to fend off new albums from 3 different former #1 artists, most notably Justin Bieber, whose only previous stumble was releasing "Changes" on the same week as a new Tame Impala album. The relative trajectory on streaming of the two albums suggests this gulf will only increase next week. Also missing out is Travis Scott and Wet Leg. Prior to this, the only appearance Wet Leg ever had in the ARIA top 50 was the single week their first album spent at #1. A bit lower down we've got Giveon scoring his highest charting album ever. If the new rules were already in place, he would have debuted at #11 instead.

It's possible but I think both songs have started losing a bit of steam lately. Older stuff might be exceptions to the rules, but I feel like at any point, you can pull back the Spotify charts from 2 years ago and see a lot of seemingly immortal songs that you've forgotten about because they just slipped away without fanfare. Imagine telling someone even just a year ago that "Someone You Loved" would be out of the top 200 for months, and that a surprise return of Lewis Capaldi with fanfare and a #1 single would jolt the song back up...to briefly matching the numbers it was managing in 2024. I think it's really hard for new hits to build up throwback appeal, so they do eventually just slip away once they're no longer at the forefront of 'current' hits.

It'll have its eye on tied 2nd longest next week, and I strongly suspect it'll get there, though it's beset on all sides by rising contenders, so the week after that could be in jeopardy, or it'll just hang on with no problems as the incumbent advantage comes to play. "Golden" climbs to #2 and since I don't get paid in Twitter impressions I won't tell you that it is or isn't real K-Pop and whether it's the highest charting one of all time. I'll just say that "Pink Venom" and "APT." both hit #1, and "Dynamite" made #2 and let you make your own decisions. We're on the cusp of having many demon hunters and hunted demons in the top 10, and in the midst of all this, "Beautiful Things" gets knocked out at the very funny tally of 69 weeks in the top 10. The record remains "Heat Waves" with a considerably less funny 88 weeks. I didn't mention "Love Me Not" finally rising to #2 last week but it just popped up on shuffle while I type this so this is my iTunes Smart Playlist engineered reminder to acknowledge that even though it falls this week. With only 6 days to accumulate the numbers, Drake sans 21 Savage is sneakin into the top 50. That 7th day likely would have pushed him into the top 40 and maybe the top 30, but we'll never know. PinkPantheress gets her 2nd top 50 hit with "illegal", and I just want to shout out that her new song with Danny L Harle is an almighty banger. Fleetwood Mac's "The Chain" is usually at home around the #200 mark so it hasn't spent very long on the chart, and makes its first ever top 50 entry. Rumi and company reach the top spot with the first soundtrack to go to #1 since "Barbie", and the first animated one since "Encanto". For the 3rd time, a Lorde album drops to #2 in its second week ("Solar Power" dropped to #9). I was constantly mentioning before how Sabrina Carpenter has the default #1 album since there were 5 songs from that album in the Spotify top 200. Now it's still the default #1 album with only 3 songs in the top 200, and that 3rd one is close to falling out itself. This is because that's still an amount that can't be competed with. Technically Teddy Swims still has 3 songs, so the gap in position between the two demonstrates the power of the 4th tracks and then some, very interesting. Sydney punk band Fangz arrive in the top 10 for the very first time. If the new rules were in place already, they'd instead debut at #6. If you want a reality check on the Oasis stocks elsewhere, Australia scarcely is aware of songs of theirs that aren't "Wonderwall", their only #1 hit, and only top 10 hit. The only exception might be whenever Cal Ah Chee kicks goals at the Gabba, fingers crossed on Friday. They'll probably climb more when they make it over here, but for now their compilation makes the top 50 for the first time ever.

Makes it feel more inevitable that something will eventually come along and go the distance, since the required longevity has effectively just been pulled off, just needs a little more luck next time.

Once again you can lock in the next week because there's no competition and it doesn't even look like wavering. Last time BLACKPINK came back they scored a #1 hit, so maybe that'll happen again, who knows? In the meantime we're dealing with fictional K-Pop single releases, as Rumi, Zoey & Mira make their triumphant entrance in the top 10. I watched the movie because I never want to repeat any past bewilderment I've had with these soundtrack phenomena while actively choosing not to answer the questions myself. Those demonic Saja Boys follow closely behind them and nearly end the never-ending second top 10 stint of "Beautiful Things", but it looks like they will next week as they all appear to be on the rise again. Things are also getting pretty gnarly as KATSEYE get their first ever top 50 entry. Lorde scores a 4th #1 album. Maybe there was risk of competition from KPop Demon Hunters but trust the repeat offender, I think she always gets the top spot without fear. As the Sword of Damocles hangs over many such albums, we look to Pitbull to pull up while he still can, and he gets a slight new peak this week at #6. Free from fear is Teddy Swims and we'll watch tentatively to see if this is one of those albums that vanishes on week 2 or if we'll be watching it vault into the top 10 in a couple of months because of the incoming Gommage. I have been playing Expedition 33 lately and you know I'm gonna be rinsing this joke. The F1 movie is out and helped Tate McRae get back into the top 10, while the album itself also arrives in the top 20. I help type up new release schedules every week and constantly see album compilations that I'm never going to think about after that moment, but sometimes they actually chart, and so The Boss arrives this week with one. After nearly 2 years, The Kid LAROI's album has finally gotten a vinyl release, which gets it back into the top 50. I was going to say it'll be the last time because that's a solid pun, but it will get to dance around for a month or so after Logan's Run: Extreme Edition so maybe it might even hang around a little.

I'd go far as to say that I think newer songs are far more subject to repeat listens than the oldies. Don't think you get songs like "driver's license" or "Too Sweet" or what have you vaulting to #1 if their streams are capped more harshly.

Where I come to loggerheads with most is that I'm not entirely sure what they want out of these kinds of changes. Unironically I think part of why ARIA are doing this is because they've gotten sick of the weekly social media comments about how the top Australian songs are all decades old. Stuff like "Riptide", "Dreams", "Iris" are just scapegoats for this due to their regularity, and this way you get a fluid system that doesn't necessarily allow anything to reach this point because modern hit singles aren't nearly as omnipresent (if "Somedays" was the top Australian song for 7 consecutive months, would anyone notice? Alex Warren's been #1 for 14 weeks going on 15 and no one seems to care here). I find the forced retirement thoroughly uncathartic because I think longevity has become the most valuable measure of success (unless you think "Anxiety" is a bigger hit than "Something In The Orange"), and this just caps everything at roughly the same finish line with no point of difference. Just completely kills the 'how far can it go?' intrigue both on an individual level and for the all-time record. But the main thing that happens here is that you don't generate a more interesting album chart this way. Less to complain about, but nothing to see either. All those hot shot pure sales debuts are still going to crash out super fast, leaving the only real activity with the stable albums that are there week after week. Aotearoa have had the same set up for a while now (theirs is 1.5 years instead of 2) and so much of it is a bunch of albums that sit around week after week, while the ancient Greatest Hits are just replaced by more recent ones, many of which are only charting because so much space is vacated for them. Just in general I think people crave a version of the charts that resembles those of the past, and no amount of exclusions or rule changes can possibly recreate something that public consumption patterns match at all. Mind you, I'm glad that ARIA is still including these old songs/albums on a chart. I'll reserve my full judgement until I see what it looks like and how accurate it actually is. With the auditing standards I've been witnessing for the last decade and a half, I have my scepticism.

There isn't really anything looking to dethrone it, and that's including our new big debut this week for Fred again... "Victory Lap" instantly becomes his highest charting song, ditto his collaborators. Fred again.. had previously charted at #13 with "leavemealone", while Skepta got to #33 with "Praise The Lord (Da Shine)". They're contributing to a legendary run at #4 for Ravyn Lenae, up to 5 weeks now, but I wouldn't count her out necessarily. As promised last week, Disco Lines gets a first top 10 hit, and Tinashe gets a second. Olivia Dean also reaches the top 50 for the first time. Benson Boone gets a first ever #1 album here, to which you probably have to give credit to the people who went out and bought it because I don't think the streaming numbers were stellar enough to do it on their own. Maybe he's also lucky to get in while he could because it looks like the KPop Demon Hunters soundtrack should make a big leap next week, while also Lorde will be gunning for a 4th #1 album. In-between, we've got YUNGBLUD picking up a 3rd top 10 album, though his last one made it to #1. Haim can't quite keep up their streak as they land at #20. Managing to find a way to enter is the return of Killing Heidi's debut album "Reflector". If you're not an Australian millennial, they're a rock band from Victoria with a lot of buzz at the turn of the millennium, culminating in a #1 single with "Mascara / Leave Me Alone" ("Weir" is also a banger). I always thought they were on the soundtrack to the 21 years old (this week) "Spider-Man 2", but even today on Australian streaming services, you don't find their hit "I Am" (Australia did later get Tonight Alive onto one of the Andrew Garfield ones). A name so underground I can't say I'd heard of them before is rock singer Karly Jewell, who's managed to land in the top 40 this week, ahead of everyone's favourite Christopher Moltisanti typo, Loyle Carner, who charts for the first time.

In a world of uncontrollable chaos, feel comfort in knowing that it'll very likely stay at #1 next week. The dreaded third week slip is coming for Sabrina Carpenter, so while she might actually stay at #2, she's only moving further away from the target. There's actually a crazy gap in the middle of the Spotify top 10 at the moment, #5 has an over 50% lead ahead of #7! If nothing else it means you may be able to lock in Fred again.. with his first ever top 10 hit, but more on that next week. Also possibly vying for the top 10 is this week's highest debut from Disco Lines & Tinashe. It wouldn't be Tinashe's first top 10 hit as "All My Friends" reached #3 in early 2016. For Disco Lines this is a first time entry. The Black Eyed Peas return to the top 50 for the first time since 2016, with the unlikely candidate of "Rock That Body". This particular song (well, most notable Black Eyed Peas songs) comes in as part of a remarkable chart feat, when The Black Eyed Peas managed 15 consecutive top 10 hits over the course of 8 years, starting with "Where Is The Love?" and ending when "Don't Stop The Party" could only manage #16. For the second week in a row, we've got an Australian #1, and this time they were actually born here. It's the debut solo outing for 5 Seconds of Summer's Calum Hood coming in at #1, following the efforts of bandmate Luke Hemmings who also scored a #1 album back in 2021. Just behind him is even more AusCon, as we've got a big, big sound from the west of the town, it's the sound of the mighty OneFour. Well, maybe that's not how you'd describe Sydney drill as a sound but it's been a long time coming for this group's debut album. Much like Toby Greene, the media are always left in a bind as their talent & popularity comes to a head with their constant litigation issues. A more common sight in the top 5 is King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard. The only bizarre thing is that they released the lead single to "Phantom Island" last year and you'd think they'd have put out multiple albums since then. The real stunning moment of the week is that Pitbull's Greatest Hits has managed to climb to #7 in a week with all these debuts, implying he could reach the top 5 soon. Lil Tecca scores his 3rd top 50 album, a bit higher than the last one, not as high as the first. You've probably heard the news about the ARIA Chart going forward. It'll be a while before it comes through but get ready for me to say a million variations on 'this artist has charted higher than their previous album but that's probably just because a lot of the albums that otherwise would have beaten them are no longer appearing on the chart'.

If I ever come across as an ardent Ed Sheeran stan, it's only because he attracts a certain backlash that is so asinine and deranged that any level-headed approach is going to look glowing in comparison (either because he's unfathomably successful, or so antithetical to certain music discussion circles that it's shooting fish in a barrel, or both). I'd just ignore it but to leave it all unopposed is to create the illusion of unchallenged approval. Otherwise I think an under-acknowledged aspect of the DSP wars is just how much exclusive use of one of them is going to re-shape the fundamentals of your own music taste. Normalising otherwise niche sounds, starving previously approved ones. It's a remarkably interesting aspect of national & global music consumption habits. I can't take anyone seriously who chooses to weaponise it to say 'x artist is overrepresented because y platform doesn't count'. It's always used as a detraction which just implies a self-centred approach that can't possibly comprehend people like different music to you, and are valid for doing so.

This is something the head of ARIA has actually said years ago. They were hesitant to introduce these kinds of rules because the reality of the situation is that local music was continuing to perform worse and worse (haven't had an Australian #1 single since 2022, haven't had a top 10 since early 2024, haven't had a top 20 since late 2024, last new top 50 hit was in February I think). The fact that I see people in the US & UK clambering for new stipulations just shows that putting a band-aid over a decelerating chart does nothing to mitigate it, it only hides it temporarily. The only way this changes anything for local artists is if it incentivises their labels to promote their singles more, but if they need the published side of the ARIA Chart to do that, then that's a bigger story than anything else here. Would you rather have a #45 hit that moves 2,000 units or a #55 hit than moves 4,000 units?

Consider me curious to see how it plays out, but I suspect this isn't the Hail Mary it appears to be, for those whom it's a concern (much rather the chart to be unfiltered personally). If there's a global sentiment that Australia's charts are slower than the rest of the world, I suspect no one's compared the raw data to other charts, which is to say that this is true even excusing chart idiosyncrasies. We always have less & lower entries on Fridays than everywhere else, and far more oldies on our Spotify charts. I think a combination of us being so isolated and our ahead time zone means that we aren't treated to the same degree of promotion, and all our global news cycles come through either while we're sleeping or a day late, so there just isn't the same urgency to it. Even Aotearoa's charts are faster than ours, although I might pin that down to it being a far smaller country, which allows things to spread more quickly. Anyone who thinks that "Iris" and "Dreams" are singlehandedly hiding new Australian hits from us are going to be very disappointed to learn it's not the case, you'd more likely just pull back in songs like "I Love You, I'm Sorry" or "Not Like Us" to put a few more superficial top 50 weeks on their resumes. More pressingly though, I feel like we're gonna see some peculiar cases when exclusions fall under awkward timing. Unless the label intervened, I believe "Pink Pony Club" would have run out its 10 week grace period before it even hit the top 50, so it would end up as a #52 hit, never allowed to reach #2 like it did in reality. More likely to get screwed over though would be "Cruel Summer", a song that meandered in the top 10 for ages before belatedly hitting #1. Either you get a chart run that ends pre-maturely, or they try to stitch it together and you get an inane two-part chart run where the song just gets to re-enter at #1, who wants that? No doubt we'll just be treated to further examples that test the cut off points of these rules and make an even messier chart that just desensitizes you to a lot of activity that feels artificial, because you know it doesn't reflect consumer habits correctly.

Better than all of those other songs though? It made 4 year end charts that I can see: Australia, Belgium (Wallonia), Canada & USA. In every single one of those lists, at least 3/9 of the other songs placed higher (7 of them in Australia). Everywhere you look it's the same chart run, high debut and then sputters out without really stabilising at any point. It couldn't hold in the top 50 for more than 13 weeks anywhere, even in Canada where it was a #1 hit. The main point is that a lot of the time even when it seems certain that songs don't have legs, it doesn't always pan out that way.

Just want to note that it's a fallacy to treat every single (even by major artists) as if they're written specifically to be instant #1 hits, especially if they just don't sound like it. To avoid the negatively associated buzzwords, sometimes they can just be made to show the range & potential of the album in question, and probably helps the bottom line a lot in the long run. Often times also these songs that appear to be coasting or underwhelming just don't fit the vibe of the top 40 but then go on to do really well after the fact. Here's a top 10 from 7 years ago, which song here do you think has the most streams on Spotify nowadays? Answer: it's the one spending its first and only week in the top 10

Just want to note that the song actually had 130,000 listeners on last.fm by the time "Good Luck, Babe!" was released, more than 10% of its current total, which is not too shabby.

Well, it's not really a record because a bunch of songs have done more than that, really, Alex is about halfway to Tones and I's record. He'll have to contend with Sabrina Carpenter from here on though, who's keeping him honest at the moment although we've previously seen songs like this completely sputter their momentum on week 3 or so, so it remains to be seen. Fleetwood Mac now do have the record for the longest running top 50 hit, although maybe some purists will suggest it doesn't fully count as part of that tally pre-dates the ARIA Chart itself. We've got some climbers into the chart this week. Addison Rae gets a second top 50 hit, while Remi Wolf gets her first...nah not really it's just Lola Young. Ed Sheeran also debuts with "Sapphire". Back in 2007, Kaiser Chiefs' "Ruby" reached #35 on the Digital Tracks chart but was not eligible for the main chart as I think it didn't have a physical release. I lean towards saying that Ed Sheeran's Gen 3 Pokémon equivalent has probably charted higher. While the Barbenheimer war of Addison Rae & Turnstile was taking place, a third contender inevitably rose to conquer, as he always does. Jimmy Barnes (ahhh, clouds) scores his 16th #1 album, extending his lead as the artist with the most #1 albums. My Chemical Romance just miss out on a Fetty Wap, as "Three Cheers For Sweet Romance" takes a chunk out of its previous #38 peak to a #16 one. What a belter of an album though am I right fellow millennials? If like Tony Soprano, you prefer to only have some Pulp, then you better look away because we've got "More" Pulp instead. This is actually their second highest charting album ever in Australia, only "This Is Hardcore" which got to #15 did better.

Considering how quickly the narrative last week went from 'it's so over' to 'we're so back', I don't think there's any reason to be super confident on next week's chart based on 1 day of data.

Ah right. I can still lean to understanding where he's coming from because in my limited experience of getting to be the centre of attention like this (and moreover, talking to people who've experienced it more viscerally), it's genuinely taxing on all faculties. I wouldn't be surprised if this chart battle wasn't even on his radar (he's already hit #1 after all), until he just got inundated with vile messages by people who don't know what grass looks like. I do agree that there's some level of responsibility on celebrities to keep their fanbases in check (or at least not stoke the flames), but I'd be surprised if the lion's share of Sabrina's hate messages are coming from ardent Alex Warren stans (not necessarily insinuating the other way either, Twitter's just a cesspit of bad vibes). He's probably not seeing the stuff that gets said about her anyway.

That's such an unmemorable number that I can never think of another song that's done it...oh hey, Bryan Adams did that. Sometimes I'm taken by surprise by high debuts but I think at this point he's gonna hold it again next week. Tate McRae debuts at #5 which is her equal highest debut with "greedy" managing the same. I don't think this one will take off to the same extent but the movie comes out in a few weeks and that can always do unpredictable things for soundtrack hits. Fleetwood Mac tie Lewis Capaldi's record for the most weeks in the top 50, and with momentum like this, nothing is gonna stop them from going one better unless ARIA unexpectedly announce a rule change. There's a first time entry for a bunch of artists at once at #50 with "Shake It To The Max (FLY)". This has also subsequently reminded me of the song "Show Me Love", that probably should have been a comfortable top 50 hit (maybe even top 20?) but ARIA haven't been including points for the remix, so it hasn't gotten especially close. Morgan Wallen manages a 3rd straight week at #1. I expect he won't make it again next week because surely we're due, and alongside anything I haven't thought of, we've got a new Jimmy Barnes album incoming and he's pretty good at hitting #1. That's something I thought in my head applied to Miley Cyrus but she seems to be on a once-a-decade basis and she's already had her 2020s one, so she can only get to #4. She's also been overshadowed by the Taylor Swift masters announcement, which notably sees "reputation" climb all the way back to #2. I can't call it a comeback because the album has literally never left the top 100 since it came out. "1989" also comes somewhat close to overtaking the newer version of it, something that I felt was already very slowly pacing its way to happening, but now feels inevitable. It's worth noting that ARIA has a recurrency system for albums that fall out of the top 150 for 8 weeks in a row, so "1989" wasn't extremely far away from this which would've possibly prevented it from returning to the chart (it's still allowed in, but it'd need to be re-submitted to the system). In a big week for new vinyl releases, the winner of the pack is actually the debut album for Cloud Control from 2010, and they're rewarded with a new peak for their efforts. I really wanted to say they've made some chart symmetry with triple j's Hottest 100 but they've fallen 1 place short of the #18 finish that the song "There's Nothing In The Water We Can't Fight" managed.
