  1. 100:1 might not be the best choice for a ratio, but I think in general the all-time list is fine, because unlike accumulating chart positions it's very practical (most of the time) for the classics to keep accumulating streams as well. In the long run a lot of big streaming hits that don't hold up to time end up slipping back behind the oldies that they were easily sailing past in their prime.

  3. I'm guessing whatever kworb pulls it from isn't working and so to substitute it, it's just ordering them all based on how recently they were last in the top 100, so everything slowly slips down in uniform fashion.

  7. I mean to be fair, I think "Fine Line" being a monster success is a big contributing factor to this out the gate explosion. Follow ups like this cash in the cheque for higher chart positions all the time but that doesn't make them more popular. Time will tell in the long run. (I'm not hating on the new album, only just now listening to it!)
  8. Yeah Labor have not really shown any sign that they're less buddy buddy with the mining industry than the LNP, but an optimistic read of the election result is a pretty sizeable swing to The Greens + Independents, the former are looking like getting 3 seats in the House of Reps after never getting more than 1, which at least to me indicates the populace does care about climate issues more than previously assumed.

Kendrick Lamar 49 44 290 02 DOO-WOPS & HOOLIGANS Bruno Mars 50 39 306 01 25 Adele Harry Styles logs a 5th week at #1. I am more than just fairly confident that he's got the #1 spot locked up next week, I am less confident on how many other nearby positions he should hold. This is more due to ARIA shenanigans than his own prowess. What we're witnessing currently is the biggest chart dominance of an album ever so it's just a question on how ARIA will respond. If the chart is accurate, he should have 8 spots in the top 10, and much of #11 & #15 ("Heat Waves" might sneak in but not sure yet). We're right to question odd behaviour too because you have to jump through some hoops to piece together this week's chart. Kendrick Lamar has 14 debuts this week. I know what you're thinking, "Mr. Morale and the Big Steppers" has 18 tracks though! In terms of the top 50 this is nearly on point though I would argue "Rich (Interlude)" probably made the cut. It's an interlude though so fine (even though interludes have charted before). Additionally we have "Savior (Interlude)", "Mother I Sober" and "Mirror". I do not believe any of these did enough to make the top 50, but beyond that as per the hip-hop chart, they also weren't included, which is a pretty heinous crime on taste. Nonetheless we can speculate if "We Cry Together" is one of the least radio friendly songs to ever make the top 50. Also since Drake album tracks have had a troubled past with the charts here, this is Sampha's first ever chart entry. You're also probably aware by now that Amanda Reifer is from Cover Drive, it was 10 years ago in 2012 that Cover Drive scored a top 10 hit with "Turn Up The Love", Blxst has not charted before only because "Chosen" wasn't counted here. Oh also there's a Post Malone song or something. Kendrick scores his 2nd #1 album despite his typical digital only handicap. Actually though it's been so long that not only can you encapsulate BROCKHAMPTON's entire career between "DAMN." and "Mr. Morale and the Big Steppers", but "DAMN." was released before ARIA started counting streams. I'm not 100% certain it would've overcome Ed Sheeran with streaming data but it may have been closer. "To Pimp A Butterfly" did hit #1 I think from just digital sales but I can't 100% recall when we got the CDs here. Anyway yet again we see Florence + The Machine fall short of the hip-hop superstar major release, as she debuts at #2, just like she did in 2018 releasing against Drake's "Scorpion". Also debuting in the top 10 is Mallrat with her debut album, although she has charted in the top 20 with an EP before. I watched Eurovision this year and I do not have any interesting anecdotes or observations but the soundtrack lands at #11. Lower down I'm not certain what's going on with distribution or w/e but The Black Keys have turned up quite low at #35, as well as The Smile just below them. I much more readily accept the low top 50 arrival of a solo album from Luke Steele of The Sleepy Jackson and that other band. Also get f'ed Scomo lmao.
  10. If you want a pre-emptive warning, Harry's entire album landed top 40 in Australia for the Thursday chart (highest new entry at #6). For comparison, "bad guy" & "STAY" both debuted at #1 officially after landing just barely inside the top 50 on the Thursday before official impact.
  11. Won't lie, my only take away from the UK ESC entry was 'wow, there's another song called Spaceman that goes 'space, man''
  12. ARIA publish the top 100 to their subscribers which I don't divulge since it would devalue their paid content. Otherwise you can generally get a good grasp on it via the handful of genre charts they do publish for everyone. Bad Bunny didn't crack the hip-hop albums chart so it's fair to say he missed out, although he was #97 on the Spotify album chart. I think maybe if he were roughly #50-#60 there he might be on the cusp of the top 100.

It's hard to see anyone overtaking him unless he has an even bigger hit waiting in the wings on his album. Kendrick Lamar looks like he'll be fighting Lizzo for #3 with "N95", which spent a day at #1 on Spotify. In the meantime he has an early entry with "The Heart Part 5", which is pretty impressive considering Australian time zones (+ ARIA not counting Thursday data) giving him very little time to get there. It does paint a pretty misleading picture though as it only narrowly outpeaks "The Heart Part 4" which actually never cracked the Spotify top 50, while this made it to #4. It's dropping much faster though so maybe it balances out. Jack Harlow debuts higher and scores two top 20 hits at once. "Dua Lipa" seems to be holding its position better (it's also the one on Hot Hits Australia). Taylor Swift enters with the new version of "This Love". The original version is one of just 4 tracks from the original "1989" that didn't manage to chart here back in 2014. Last week PSY snuck into the top 50 thanks to big digital sales & YouTube streams, now just the former is doing the job for Lady Gaga. Lastly, I don't think that you'd understand, but I just want you to know that TikTok popularity has allowed The Goo Goo Dolls to return to the top 50 with "Iris", a former long running #1 hit from 1998. I should also note that "Blinding Lights" has now tied "Someone You Loved" as the longest running top 50 hit. Unless next week's chart disregards Kendrick's album for some reason, it might take The Weeknd a little while to secure the outright lead. I'm kind of happy to not make predictions sometimes! It seems even ARIA were caught off guard as Daniel Johns collected a lot of cassette sales for his new album which sees him vaulting to #1 out of nowhere. This is his first ever solo #1 and 6th overall if you want to add every Silverchair album. Now he just needs to find a way to get his first solo album to #1 as well. As a result, Jack Harlow has to settle for #2 on both charts this week, although it's a considerable improvement on his last album's peak. The war for the last few spots in the top 10 is won by Alison Wonderland who scores her 3rd top 10 album. Also sneaking in is Stand Atlantic (who are not to be confused with Chase Atlantic who also released this past week), who score their first top 10 album. Arcade Fire thus hit a fat L by missing the top 10 for the first time post-Funeral, I blame "Everything Now". Hilltop Hoods return to #12 with the 10th anniversary of "Drinking From The Sun", while Kylie Minogue enters with a remix album. Former Australia's Got Talent winner Mark Vincent returns to the chart, and Sharon Van Etten gets her first ever top 50 entry. Next week we'll have to see who comes out ahead with Florence + The Machine's multi-format availability vs. Kendrick's monster streams. Maybe The Black Keys & The Smile could figure up there too.
  14. Shout out to the MCR/K.Dot fanbase cross-section, we're eatin' this week.

Guy Sebastian 49 39 06 01 MAINSTREAM SELLOUT Machine Gun Kelly 50 56 234 01 REPUTATION Taylor Swift Harry gets a 3rd week at #1 but next week should be quite interesting. Jack Harlow has his album out and yet at the same time, it's so close between the two that it's anyone's game at this stage. There might even be further competition down the line from Lizzo who has vaulted from not making the chart to going straight into the top 20. "About Damn Time" will very likely become her highest charting single ever next week as it's comfortably ensconced in the Spotify top 3 at the moment. Future may also attempt a slight climb for the next highest debut of the week "WAIT FOR U" which in typical playlist/Australia fashion, is gaining on performance from the start of the week even though I think he peaked at some point last week. To date his only top 10 hit is "Way 2 Sexy" so he's never had a lead artist top 10 and this doesn't look like it'll quite get there either. Despite never actually ever going away, Justin Bieber returns this week although also looks like "Honest" will be leaving quite quickly. Less certain is Benson Boone who will attempt to grab some stability while he can. "In The Stars" is his first ever top 50 hit after "GHOST TOWN" looked like it was going to do it last year but got caught in the Taylor Swift shuffle and never recovered. Australia seems especially interested in the cringe sequel to GAYLE's cringe, with Leah Kate vaulting up the chart quite fast (idk maybe because Heath Ledger is Australian, let's go with that). Then with extra thanks to ARIA adding YouTube views recently, PSY is able to sneak onto the top 50 for the first time since "Gentleman" in 2013. On the album chart, Future has had a very shaky chart history over the years. Previously he made the top 5 with his Drake collaboration in 2015, while most of his own albums have hovered around 20 & 30. So relatively out of nowhere, his latest album rockets him to the top spot for the very first time. I can't imagine Rammstein were far off either, but they do score their highest ever charting album this week by making it to #3. Their self-titled in 2019 got them to #5 previously. Mildlife scored a top 10 debut in 2020 and now return with a live album. Norah Jones has a vinyl re-issue for the 20th anniversary of her very successful album and also The Voice Australia is still going for all your otherwise unprompted rebounds.

Looks like it'll comfortably stay there for now too unless something vaults out of nowhere. The Kid LAROI debuts at #4 which I imagine was very close to #3 which notably ends the unbroken 41 week reign of "STAY" as the highest Australian song on the chart. That's basically it this week. Album chart is a bit busier though, which results in Northlane scoring their 2nd #1 album. They last hit #1 in 2015 which incidentally was when Daniel Johns released his first solo album (he's the guy from Silverchair if it's not obvious), which also peaked at #2 (being Hillsong ). Also on the topic of Australian metalcore or thereabouts, there's a top 10 debut for Ocean Grove. Pusha T arrives at #11, just like he did in 2018, just ahead of a revival for Flight Facilities courtesy of a vinyl re-release. Fontaines D.C. arrive just ahead of Jack White who belatedly debuts with physical sales added. Then we've got peak psychedelic garage core with Psychedelic Porn Crumpets & King Gizzard.
  18. ^Furthermore, he took that image, scrubbed the artist's name from it and posted it without credit since taking things and claiming them as his own is his whole brand. Well that and liking terrible transphobic joke(s?), so I suppose we get to look forward to a much more lenient policy on that.

  20. Looking at the Indie Singles chart, in an SCR world it lands between Balling (#37) and Still Sleepless (#46), I'm kind of surprised ACR knocks it so far down! Meanwhile J. Cole doesn't even register on the hip-hop top 40 chart where he'd need to be top 20 to make it officially, but maybe the OCC have just overlooked him in categorising it
  21. Anyone know about roughly how high it'd need to get until it could chart officially? Guessing it's a fair way off given "505" still hasn't re-entered but then maybe it's doing better elsewhere.

His descent has slowed down a lot but not enough to stop Harry from probably getting back to #1 next week. Side note, isn't it interesting that we had back to back #1 debuts by artists who refer to themselves in the 3rd person in song, yes I am doing anything to avoid talking about the actual non-event chart this week where for the first time the top 15 is unchanged. Updates to Hot Hits Australia in the past week will change that but I don't like to draw attention to Dr. Luke music. On the other hand there's also a new Kid LAROI song that's aiming to enter in the top 5. All we got this week was a particularly egregious case of the boomers winning with Easter streams and just one low top 50 debut from Lauren-Spencer Smith. She hasn't got the Hot Hits slot yet but tonight she jumped into the Spotify top 40 for the first time so maybe there's a stable hit in the running here. "Dance Monkey"'s re-entry this week after a 9 month absence means that it finally reaches 100 weeks in the top 50, the 3rd song to do so. On that note, The Weeknd is 3 weeks away from matching Lewis Capaldi's tenure of 124 weeks. In 'new' hit news, "Sweater Weather" and "Another Love" both entered the Spotify top 50 for the first time tonight. ARIA so far has not been tracking either song but maybe they'll change their tune if they get high enough. These US & UK hits have not previously charted here. Vinyl reigns supreme once more. It gets Dua Lipa to return to #1 for a 3rd non-consecutive week which is particularly interesting because the album did not debut at #1 yet has had 3 separate stints all in different calendar years. Tyler, The Creator also has his own vinyl bump for his latest album which gets it back into the top 10. Just below is the only new entry of the week from Kirsty Lee Akers. She does not sing on "Energy" by Stace Cadet but this is the local country singer's highest charting album to date. This week is also the first time ever that "good kid, m.A.A.d city" has ever spent 2 weeks in a row in the top 50.

  24. I haven't seen anyone mention this, but I wonder if Spotify's update (I think a couple of months ago) has had a major effect on artists promoting new singles. You used to get an artist's discography of singles/albums listed in chronological order under their top 5/10 by default, putting the newest stuff in the forefront, but now that's stuck behind fiddly tabs with the default being 'Popular releases'. I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of people who ended up listening to the newest release did so out of convenience and they're now listening to their established material instead. It's a subtle change that takes away some of the former prominence and attention from new singles.

CITY Kendrick Lamar For the second week in a row we have a #1 debut on the singles chart. I believe the last time this has happened was in 2016 with Katy Perry's "Rise" and Major Lazer's "Cold Water", perhaps these two will have more longevity than the former. The new one though comes from Jack Harlow giving him his first ever #1 single, which interpolates Fergie's #2 hit "Glamorous". He pulls through with an even bigger opening week than Harry but as a caveat is coming with a bigger drop. I expect Jack will hold the #1 spot this week but it's so close that I could see paid/free streaming ratios perhaps swaying the outcome the other way. Harry is actually starting to offset the initial declines and as I write this I've discovered that "As It Was" got more streams yesterday than it did the same day last week, so how about that. This ends up being unlucky for Camila Cabello who is hoisted a #11 peak for now with "Bam Bam". In what can only be considered a funny coincidence, WILLOW climbs into the top 50 this week with one of her older tracks "Wait A Minute!", which actually gave a run for the chart a couple years ago but didn't quite get there. This time around the momentum is running stronger so now we'll wait to see if it gets playlist backing. Earlier this year I noted that Huskii did a very rare feat of debuting at #1 with his debut album having never made the ARIA Chart before that in any capacity, which had not happened since 2009. Not to take anything away from that achievement but it's actually happened again this week with Wet Leg. The group's rise to popularity makes me extremely nostalgic for the late 2000s when these sorts of bands would just pop up out of nowhere and take the spotlight as if they've always been there. It's very rare nowadays that an international group does it but hey it sure worked. "Chaise Longue" did make triple j's Hottest 100 for 2021 at #45 earlier this year too. On the topic of Australian artists gaining fervour with their debut, look no further than Short Stack who debuted at #1 with their debut album in 2009 (gosh that year is coming up a lot). They've been largely absent for a while so this is their first new album since 2015, and it keeps up their record with 4/4 top 10 debuts. Tool return to the chart thanks to a vinyl release of their latest album, while Camila Cabello also debuts a decent bit lower than she's used to. Mind you she still beats Father John Misty who I'm surprised to not even see in the top 50 at all given how well he did in the UK. Jack Harlow returns with his first album to the tune of a slight new peak.
