  1. From Music Week... TOTP ratings an unexpected Christmas cracker Monday January 5, 2009 Veteran show's return wins music TV ratings battle. Anyone got access to the full story???
  2. Times have changed - look at Eastenders which, in a normal week, doesn't get 10m viewers anymore (previous Xmas episodes have been more than double what yesterdays episode got). There are more channels so they expect lower ratings. To see TOTP in the top 15 is a big achievement in my opinion. There are loads of shows on the 5 main channels getting low ratings so ratings shouldn't be the only way to measure it's success. Share % is also a big factor and almost one third of the available audience at that time chose to watch TOTP. I appreciate the Xmas special will always do better than the weekly show but I think these figures (and the outcry over it originally being cancelled this year) show that there's still a place for it in the schedules. It'll be interesting to see where the New Year show ends up in the ratings. As for where it would fit in the schedule, I actually think that teatime on BBC1 on a Saturday is possibly the best option. 7pm on a weekday is now filled and we don't want 7:30pm as it'll get lost against Corrie again. It should be seen as a showcase for current and upcoming hits and not judged on the difference it makes to that weeks charts (it lost it's influence on that years ago).
  3. I personally thought that Christmas TOTP was a great show and had such an impressive line up. I was pleased to see that it was the 15th highest rated show of the day in terms of audience, and 11th highest in terms of audience share (higher than Corrie!). Time to bring it back weekly! 1. 4. According to HMV, it's got 4 tracks - does that make the physical single ineligible for the singles chart? track listing 1. Little Drummer Boy/Peace On Earth 2. Swing On A Star - Clare Teal 3. Puff The Magic Dragon - Sally B. 'Traffic' Boazman & The Storys 4. Right Said Fred - Mark Radcliffe
  5. Sorry Mart!n. I was so excited that I thought that it merited a new topic to show off the good news. I don't particularly like Fearne and Reggie but at least it's back. The weekly shows need to return too. It's incredibly sad that no major TV channel can devote 30 minutes of it's weekly schedule to a peak-time popular music show.
  6. From Media Guardian (http://www.guardian.co.uk/media/2008/nov/20/bbc-christmas-top-of-the-pops) The BBC has reversed its decision to axe the Christmas edition of Top of the Pops – and announced it will return for two one-off shows over the festive period. Simon Cowell said he would like to buy the show and put it on ITV after the BBC announced it would not be returning last month. The BBC had previously said the long-running music show – which was axed from its regular weekly slot in 2006 – had not earned its place in the Christmas schedule. However, today Top of the Pops was welcomed back with open arms, with not one but two editions on BBC1 on Christmas Day and New Year's Eve. The BBC1 controller, Jay Hunt, said: "With shows on Christmas Day and New Year's Eve, Top of the Pops has never been bigger. "The shows will form the centerpiece of a massive musical offering during the festive season that we hope viewers are really going to enjoy." The BBC announced on October 28 that Top of the Pops would not be returning this year, instead unveiling plans to show eight special episodes of archive series TOTP2 on BBC2. "We said ... the Christmas special would continue but would have to earn its place every year," a spokesman said at the time. The Top of the Pops Christmas Special will be hosted by Fearne Cotton and Reggie Yates and filmed at BBC TV Centre. New spin-off show the Top of the Pops New Year's Eve Special will review the year in pop. But there remain no plans to bring the show back full time to BBC1. Cowell said last month he would rather take the show to ITV than let it "just sit in the dustbin". "If the BBC wanted to do a deal, and I can get ITV to buy it and broadcast it, I'd put it on ITV," The X Factor judge added.

Sheena's song is the best, closely followed by DD. Worst has got to be Rita Coolidge!

  9. Can I just clear up a couple of points about Sheena Easton. She is British and Morning Train (9 To 5) was an original song. She currently holds duel citizenship of the UK and America but only held a UK passport at the time of her number one song. There's a good website about her for anyone that's interested www.sheenaeaston.co.uk
  10. I was under the impression that it had been decided before the album's release that Annie would be moving on from Sony BMG. It was originally meant to be a best of album and then she decided to release SOMD instead. I'm sure that a best of will still be released before the end of the year, but I guess that there won't be any new material on there. It does seem odd to drop an artist who does still sell a decent amount of albums and has such an extensive history with the company. They don't seem to know how to promote her music these days. Annie does seem to need a big hit single to generate huge album sales. The previous album, "Bare", didn't have any singles released from it in the UK which was a huge mistake and affected it's sales. As for "SOMD", I thought that "Dark Road" would have done better but "Sing" (the second single released on download only) is definitely a case of the cause and sentiment being much better than the actual song. It's the weakest song on the album but Annie should be commended for at least caring enough to do something. I'm sure that there'll be plenty of other companies showing interest in signing Annie, she may even decide to release her music independantly. It can be done successfully.

For me it has been KIM WILDE "Never Say Never" (although it was released in 2006) ANNIE LENNOX "Songs Of Mass Destruction" MATCHBOX 20 "Exile On Mainstream" MAROON 5 "It Won't Be Soon Before Long" TOM BAXTER "Skybound"
  12. Your buying habits are just totally pointless given that Take That over 35,000 copies behind on first day sales alone. Your loyalty is bordering on delusional. If you're going to p*ss away money then you'd be as well giving it to charity cos it will make no difference to the end result and save you some storage space! Let the record companies worry about sending out buying teams.
  13. Sorry, but I find this totally pointless (and a bit sad)
  14. You've kinda answered your own question there... You should have gone to HMV or ordered it online.

The chart run section on www.polyhex.com is "no longer available". Does anyone know what happened and if it's just a temporary blip? I will miss this function - it's so handy. Is there anything similar available on another website?
  16. Does anyone know where JK & Joel are going? I'm really surprised that they're leaving the station (or being dumped) Has "Dance Anthems" on a Sunday night been dropped completely then? **EDIT** I've just checked the full line up and got my answers there

The new Madness album was rumoured to be being given away with "The Sun" newspaper. I haven't heard anything definite though.

Thanks but it's not her. I just listened to her version on her Myspace page and it's an R&B version. The one I'm trying to find is more acoustic. :music:

Please can someone help... I'm recently back from America and I kept hearing an acoustic version of Gnarles Barkley's "Crazy" performed by a female singer and I'm trying to find out who it is. It's not the version by Nelly Furtado. Thanks for any help that you can give. :)

3 out of 10. It's a bit lame and predictable. Oh look it's got Delta on it!
  23. We're not in Oz. She's had 2 albums out and I'm guessing at a maximum of 4 singles from each so my point still stands. Her 2 albums haven't done well enough to even merit a GH album in the UK. I wouldn't be at all surprised if her 3rd album doesn't get released in the UK at all.
  24. Westlife have only released 7 singles since the last GH album. Bit premature for another. I wonder which lame cover version will be the single in November! Enrique's only had 9 hit singles so he can f**k off with his GH. They should call it "GREATEST COMBOVERS". Janet Jackson is long overdue a full career retrospective. It should be a double cd but I'm guessing that they'll chuck off a couple of the smaller hits included on "Design Of A Decade" and replace them with some of the bigger hits from the last few albums (although there's not many to choose from, unfortunately).
  25. :lame: I admire your loyalty to your favourite artist but GET REAL! She's had 6 hit singles!!! She'd need to release 8 singles from that 3rd album to come remotely close to being worthy of a GREATEST HITS album.
