  7. xMs172JU30Q #01. Beware of the Dog | 9.583 Highest Scores: 11: (Lee J11, awardinary, ready for it, Nick F1), 10: (Nina West, Yobnedor, lewistgreen, BananasInPyjamas), Lowest Scores: 8.5/8: gooddelta, vibe, jimwatts, Chapman) So there you have it Buzzjack your fave Jamelia track with a whopping average of 9.5 is Beware of the Dog. Released in December 2006 as the 2nd single from Jamelia's 3rd studio album Walk With Me and was written by Jamelia, Stuart Crichton, Tommy Lee James, and Karen Poole, while production was handled by Stuart Crichton. The song is built around a sample of Depeche Mode's song "Personal Jesus" from 1989. Upon release the track reached a #10 peak on the UK singles chart, becoming her 7th and final UK top 10 hit and also received high radio airplay, reaching BBC Radio 1's A-list and was even shortlisted for the Popjustice £20 Music Prize, a prize which recognizes the best British pop single over the past year. In support of the song. Jamelia performed the track with UK rock band Feeder, at their gig that was held on 9 November 2006 gig at the London Coronet. Worldwide the song was a moderate success by hitting top 10 in Scotland, top 20 in Finland, top 40 peaks in New Zealand & Czech Republic as well as top 50 peaks in Slovakia, Sweden, Ireland & Australia. This is great track that makes for a more than worthy winner and perhaps should have been released as the album's lead single as this could have easily fared better than 'SAY'. I do think that this was released rather late in the year and was overshadowed by Rihanna's 'SOS' which came out months before and used a Tainted Love sample & many saw this as copying that same idea. But who cares as this is a solid track where Jamelia takes a more pop/rock sound with pure brassy attitude that works well for her with its frantic energy and catchy dance beats and hell even the prominent sample works well in the song's favour. It's such a shame that this didn't find the success that it deserved as its a brilliant piece of pop music and an underrated gem to the masses.
  8. Bu0LKfB3CR8 #02. Superstar | 9.361 Highest Scores: 11: (Nina West, vibe, lewistgreen),10: (jimwatts, JulianT, awardinary, ready for it, Nick F1), Lowest Scores: 8.5/8: (Yobnedor, Jessie Where, Simon, One for Sorrow, Lee J11, Roba) At the runner up spot is the career saving Superstar, which means that we all know what the winner is & will be posted in the next topic. The song was originally sung by Danish pop singer Christine Milton in early 2003 & was later covered by Jamelia and released in September 2003 as the 2nd single from her 2nd studio album Thank You. It was written by Cutfather, Joe Belmaati, and Remee with production by Cutfather who stated in an interview with HitQuarters that the song was initially inspired by Liberty X's "Just a Little" . Upon release the song entered the UK charts at #8 but as airplay, video play and the general awareness of the track increased, after a month on the track climbed to a peak of #3 and to date remains her most successful single of her career. Worldwide the song was an international success by topping the charts in Australia, Czech Rebublic & New Zealand as well as attaining top 10 peaks in 15 other countries, making this her international breakthrough. The song earned the songwriters an Ivor Novello Award for "Most Performed Work", being the most performed song in the United Kingdom in 2003. Despite the song's success Jamelia did state that she originally didn't like the song but over time she grew to like it, after all the success it received. This was the winner during the first half of the rate but in the end it lost out by just 4 points. I always remember being so happy when this song took off as I instantly loved it and felt that Jamelia always seemed more comfortable with the poppy sound as it suits her perfectly. Jamelia really makes this simple yet effective pop classic her own with her lip curling vocal delivery, strutting pop beats and catchy rhythms that makes everything come together beautifully. This is one of the best pop tracks of the 2000's and its hard to believe that this is now 20 years old. A sublime track through and through.
  9. Wow can't believe I was the joint winner, now that was a surprise thanks for hosting this
  10. Superstar VS Beware of the Dog Which will win, stay tuned to find out!
  11. m_OT8rMwEME #03. See It In A Boy's Eyes | 9.0 Highest Scores: 11: (Simon, JulianT, DrizzyMack, BananasInPyjamas, Chapman), 10: (One for Sorrow, lewistgreen, Nick F1), Lowest Scores: 6: (awardinary, Roba) At the #3 spot is See It in a Boy's Eyes, released in July 2004 and featured on the re-release edition of Jamelia's 2nd studio album Thank You, becoming the album's 4th overall single. The song was written in the studio at the end of 2003 by Jamelia and Coldplay frontman Chris Martin who created a piano loop and wrote the chorus. Jamelia stated that the song is "about a relationship where someone doesn't speak about having a problem and you can see that they're upset but they're just not talking". Upon release the song became another success for the artist by peaking at #5 on the UK singles chart and spent 11 weeks on the charts. Elsewhere it managed a top 10 peak in Scotland, top 20 peaks in Ireland & Hungary and top 40 peaks in Australia and Belgium. The music video won the "Best Video Award" at the 2004 MOBO awards. This was one of just 3 songs in this countdown to gain any 11 scores and this proved to be a bit of a dark horse during the scoring process as about halfway through it sailed past the title track and gained a healthy average of 9.0. This is yet another great song by Jamelia where the piano riffs by Chris Martin totally works in the song's favour and gives this a haunting yet mellow feel at the same time with sophisticated production and Jamelia's vocals sound stunning on this chilled out R&B pop number. This was a very interesting direction for her to take at the time and thankfully it worked as this is one of her finest recordings of her career.
  12. REMEMBER YOU'RE VOTING FOR YOUR FAVE TO WIN!
  13. dCBe0N0GPIo #04. Thank You | 8.361 Highest Scores: 10: (Nina West, Simon, DrizzyMack), Lowest Scores: 5: (BananasInPyjamas) At #4 is Thank You, released in February 2004 as the 3rd single from Jamelia's 2nd studio album Thank You. Written by Jamelia, Peter Biker and Carsten "Soulshock" Schack, while production was helmed by the latter two. The song is about an abusive relationship of which she had first-hand experience, discussing that relationship and how she made it through the experience. Upon release the track became her highest charting single in the UK by peaking at #2, it was kept off the top spot by a re-release of Peter Andre's 'Mysterious Girl'. The song also found success worldwide by hitting top 10 peaks in Scotland, Australia, New Zealand & Ireland, a top 20 peak in Finland as well as top 40 peaks in several other countries such as Netherlands, Italy & Switzerland. In France the song was released as a duet with French singer Singuila and reached a #30 on the charts there. Due to it's success the album was re-released with a few extra tracks and reached a new peak of #4 on the UK albums chart. The title track and focal point of Jamelia's 2nd album with its bold lyrical content and yet handled with grace and wisdom on this beautiful mid-tempo number where Jamelia's vocals confidently soars over the stellar production. This a deeply personal track that a lot of people could relate to and I will commend Jamelia on being able to share such a harrowing experience and show that she has come out stronger at the end of it. This is a great track and perhaps one of the most important songs in her discography.
  14. Ready for another entry
  15. Welcome to the FINAL round of the 'Drag Race Winners Survivor' & after a very tight battle between Bob & Bianca, it's Bianca Del Rio who loses out on a place in the final 2 & therefore finishing in a respectable 3rd place. Bianca won the 6th season of Drag Race back in 2014 and was a top contender from the very start, she steamrolled her season without ever having to lip sync for her life and since winning has made a fortune as a stand up comic and overall comedic personality. Right then guys as we're now down to the final 2, this time you will be voting for your fave to win, Jinkx Monsoon vs Bob The Drag Queen, who will win, you decide? Results so far: 3rd. Bianca Del Rio - [10/47.62%] 4th. Jaida Essence Hall - [12/63.16%] 5th. Raja - [35 points] 6th. Symone - [15/73.00%] 7th. Willow Pill - [16/55.17%] 8th. Yvie Oddly - [9/42.86%] 9th. Aquaria - [9/37.50%] 10th. Sasha Velour - [5/4/22.73%] 11th. Violet Chachki - [10/23.26%] 12th. BeBe Zahara Benet - [17/39.53%] 13th. Sharon Needles - [10/50.00%] 14th. Tyra Sanchez - [8/40.00%]
  16. I'll keep this open a little longer in order to break this tie.
  17. The next entry will take a huge leap in average at 8.3 & it will be a 'Thank You' single...
  18. The Hoosiers - Goodbye Mr A
  19. The Calling - Wherever You Will Go
  20. u4Zk6EWgHLw #05. Stop | 7.666 Highest Scores: 10: (ready for it), Lowest Scores: 4: (JulianT) At the #5 spot is Stop, a cover of the Sam Brown hit from 1988. Jamelia covered the song after the makers of the 2004 film Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason, approached her to record it to illustrate an integral part of the film. Jamelia instantly accepted the offer and explained how much she was a fan of the character and of the first film. Released in November 2004 as a double A-side with the song 'DJ' which featured on her 2nd album Thank You & peaked at #9 on the UK singles chart and became her 5th top 10 hit, spending 12 weeks on the charts. Worldwide the track hit top 10 in Scotland, top 20 in Ireland, top 40 peaks in Greece, Switzerland & Australia, and was also released on its own in Germany where it made a minor dent by peaking at #56. The formats of both tracks received a staggered release with the 2 track CD one disc being released on November 1st, due to time. Due to time constraints, the "Stop" music video (directed by Alex Hemming) could not be added in time to make the 1 November release date and so the CD two was released a week later on 8 November 2004. The single release also included a cover of Wham's 'Last Christmas'. The success of this double A-side release was because of 'Stop' due to it getting more radio play and far more attention due to it's inclusion on a popular movie soundtrack. Jamelia does a bang up job with this cover, far better than most of the covers that were coming out at the time. Now its virtually impossible for any artist to outdo an original classic but Jamelia comes pretty close as her version doesn't stray too far from the original and her strong yet sweet vocals really commands attention. This is a really beautiful track that gives you that warm winter feeling and a great addition to Jamelia's discography.
  21. We are now down to our final 5: Superstar Thank You See It in a Boy's Eyes Stop Beware of the Dog
  22. NztGRKGx-qI #06. Something About You | 7.611 Highest Scores: 10: (Simon, Nick F1), Lowest Scores: 5: (awardinary, Roba, DrizzyMack) Just missing the top 5 by a single point at #6 is Something About You, released in September 2006 as the lead single from Jamelia's 3rd studio album Walk With Me & was written by Jamelia, Carsten "Soulshock" Schack, and Peter Biker, while production was handled by Biker and Schack. Jamelia not wanting to repeat herself as an artist described the sound of the song as being more "experimental and not as "R&B" as her previous material." Upon release the song was released as a download single first and charted at #28 on the UK singles chart before reaching a #9 peak a few weeks later. The track also found success elsewhere with a top 5 peak in Scotland, top 20 in Australia & top 40 peaks in Belgium, Ireland & Italy. Well this was certainly a very different sound for Jamelia at the time and taking a big risk by experimenting with a different style and it kinda works for the most part. This is a catchy little uptempo bop with a decent verses that builds towards the chorus with stunning vocals. However the chorus itself could have done with a little bit more edge & doesn't quite pop in the way it should. Honestly I dunno why 'Beware of the Dog' wasn't released as the lead single as that may have had a lot more impact & then release 'Something About You' as the follow up. Overall the song itself is decent in its own right and perhaps a little too ahead of its time.
  23. A former producer has just been fired from WOW after 10 years & has now decided to spill the tea on Backstage rigging, the person said this in a reddit statement: "As the title says. World of wonder is so ungrateful for all the work I've done for them. Ask me anything and I'll try to answer it the best I can. Be mindful that even production has to sign NDA but I will answer your questions to the best of my ability. Because theyre a sleazy company only worried about money. Not the queens, not the fans. THE MONEY." Was there ever any queens that production planned to go far in the competition that ended up being eliminated earlier for reasons behind the scenes? (Like Valentina I’m guessing?) I’ll just say this. Widow in Season 12. Most unexpected winners/ top placements that defied productions plans and rigory? Thanks for doing this AMA!! Jaida in really her entire run of drag race Was Valentina "planned" to go further? Yes, in both seasons What winner/winners won solely off being good at the competition and not favoritism? Besides jaida Sasha lol Is there a king on s16? Yes I strongly suspect sometimes choices of winners or bottom placements aren’t based on legitimate critiques but more the sake of a storyline or causing drama? Is rupaul just making choices based on how she feels or does producing sometime overrule legitimate performances for creating drama or storyline? (Example; shuga cain or rock m Sakura eliminations and placements or jorgeous design challenge win.) Jorgeous was Ru’s doing. Storyline is more so production. Ru often wants the “right people” to win. WHICH LIPSTICK DID BEBE CHOOSE???? No Answer (but rumoured to be Trixie) Were Sugar and Spice scouted, or did they audition? Does this happen often? Any other examples? Scouted. So was Sasha and Luxx. Was Sasha Colby the legitimate winner of S15 from the start? Yes Which queens are 100% banned from returning? As of this moment only Tyra, Sharon Needles and Sherry Pie. So sorry they screwed you over - thanks for this DELICIOUS info though. Will Anetra be in AS9, feel that she’ll win an all stars? And have there been any queens who deserved a villain edit but never got one? Jimbo lol and Anetra maybe not so soon but eventually. Are Production aware of who spills the tea pre-airing? Who do you think spills it… is there any season where someone was pushed to be the winner Jinx during season 5. Violet in Season 7. It’s well known by staff that these seasons were rigged for them. Was the lalaparuza in s14 planned from the start? Yup! Was season 14s snatch game really that bad? No lol. Willow had us all dying. Bosco had us laughing too. Was Peppermint ever asked for AS Multiple times On AS3, was the final voting set up to purposely make Trixie win over Shangela? Yeah If u wanna read more then look at this link Backstage gossip & tea
  24. 'Relentless' is a stunning track, wasn't either this or 'Let's Love' originally planned as the 2nd single before Jo got dropped, I'm pretty certain that 'Relentless (single)' appeared on a few release schedules back in the day.
  25. There will be another entry later this evening, any guesses?
