  1. I wasn't ready.
  2. Thanks mdh! :D Hey Harry! Yeah, 'Cheap Thrills' is probably the best thing on the album. <3 TY Haha, I actually think that was the main reason for the climb! And GAH 'Work From Home' gives me such inner conflict :arrr: - it'll always be pretty shit on merit but right now it's simultaneously a bit of a jam so :music:. Re: my #1, you should stop being so damn shallow and check it out cos it's an out-and-out beaut! Thanks. *fistbumps* Hello! Yeah, the Nick/Tove collaboration didn't look particularly exciting on paper but their voices together sounds surprisingly organic. A really well done duet and the video's similarly compelling. I agree re: Mike Posner - really doesn't make sense to me that he has a multi-week #1 in 2016! The honesty of the lyrics is by far the best thing about the track for me. Sia really has a knack for creating exciting chart weeks and drumming up near-unanimous Buzzjack support in the process (I'm thinking of 'Elastic Heart' finally going top 10 last year)! Would've indeed been awesome to see 'Cheap Thrills' at #1. It's also interesting that it's her highest-charting solo hit as the song's quite a marked departure from her usual formulaic stuff, good as that generally is. I'm enjoying 'Dangerous Woman' but am still waiting for it to properly click with me. Quite a bold lead single, though I definitely prefer the likes 'Love Me Harder' and 'One Last Time'...and possibly 'Focus' too. :o Yeah, Fifth Harmony really exemplify the value of perseverance and continued label investment, even if the eventual smashes are as cheap and trend-chasing as theirs. Not sure how I feel about them being the next big girlband as they're yet to properly impress me. ^_^ Aw I really like Jack's voice and find most of his stuff pretty interesting production-wise. Kind of a shame he never properly happened. :/ Thanks as ever for commenting, Mango. :D Cheers James! :D Messing around with sub-script . Oh to be young again~ (:hi:) It was SO close to being a Sofi swap-over  but alas, the sheer splendour of 'Winterbreak' sealed the deal. Glad you approve anyway! Haha, I actually always liked the 'Fast Car' cover but hadn't felt like charting it until hearing it on the radio a bit. Still not even the tiniest of fractions as good as the original though so I'm comfortable with its inclusion. B-) Re: 'Desire', I think it's a combination of being kind of over the original, thinking Tove's parts sounded horribly jarring the one time I heard the new version and being in slight denial that the single is even happening (again) lol. One of the most baffling decisions ever, but I guess it's paying off to some degree. -_- Thanks for the comments, Jord. :D
  3. A few artists and songs I recognise from my blog trawl over the weekend but it's looking like a largely fresh edition on the whole~ I tried sending 'Feels' back in September (:coffee:) but another song of Kiiara's had already been entered - interested to see how that'll fare. A little surprised it passed the veto but it's a great song so will only add to the contest, and I'm looking forward to checking out that remix. All of the hype for FARC though . 'Winterbreak' is an absolute stunner and I'm thrilled it's getting BJSC exposure.
  4. ^ Eight. Yeah it's odd to see Rihanna securing one of her biggest ever hits (according to the Hot 100) when the 'Anti' era had been characterised by false starts, delays and uncertainty around her star power for so long.
  5. I hadn't realised Zayn's been racking up so many impressive-looking chart records with his single and album debuting at #1. First UK artist to begin atop the Hot 100 with their first single is quite an accolade on paper (when you ignore the fanbase dynamics of how that'd be achieved etc). It definitely seems off that he's joining the likes of Justin, Gwen and Beyoncé in having a #1 album both in and out of a group though when it's such an exclusive club.

Hi there, it is I your duo partner :hi:. You know the one who's actually 5'11", makes hilarious jokes referencing Skype hens and always travels with an abundance of swag. :) (jk you slayed faves, WD :cheer:) Glad to see 'Something In The Way You Move' properly appreciated at last because it means I can say I told you so (kinda) and I'm petty like that because it's a great sang :teresa:. Shame that doesn't seem to be happening with the US public at large (?), though its release has seemed quite unfocused and messy. Hopefully there's life in it in other territories at least as it sounds like such an obvious hit to me. I've had a very mixed reaction to 'No' up to now - found it catchy in an annoying way and generally a bit contrived but the negatives have been overpowered in the last week or so by the strength of its sonic context~ (which I always enjoyed to a degree cos childhood ). If she continues this thing of shifting her act up to produce the hits and thereby proving my instincts wrong I could see her becoming a female Jason Derulo-type figure. :o 'Wild Things' is pretty great. Nice that you agree to the extent of breaking presentation convention by bolding the song despite it missing your top 10. :P Some excellent new entries in 'Rock Bottom', 'Ocean Drive', 'Hymn For The Weekend', 'Cheap Thrills' and 'Formation'. Also good to see you approve of new(-ish) Panic! At The Disco as I've been meaning to listen for ages. <3
  7. Enjoying being reminded of so many of these <3. Certainly loads of modern essentials so far. Usher's been producing the goods in multiple genres for many years but I'll always see 'Climax' as just that in terms of his overall career. Listening back, it still sort of surprises me how he pulls it off so perfectly - one of those rare tracks where the lyrical content, production and range of emotions driving the vocal delivery are all completely spot-on both individually and in complementing each other. Still sounds flawless now. I could say much the same about 'Adorn' and 'Hold On We're Going Home', and can completely relate to the late-night memories of the latter that dhwe mentioned. I'd actually forgotten 'Hard' is from as far back as 'Rated R'/2009 :o. I guess I've always thought of it as ahead of its time, to the point that I didn't 'get' its appeal on release. Would stand surprisingly high on my Rihanna singles rankings now~ 'Bed Rock' is an amazing blast from the past, and it's indeed interesting how it was such a seminal track in breaking through so many names to the mainstream. Great quality write-ups in general, guys, but on that one in particular. Keep up the good work! ^_^
  8. I'd forgotten how much of an event the last portion of this song is! Always thought of 'Home Run' as her best effort but listening back to both of them has made me change my mind on that. She definitely has/had(:() latent star power and a tonne of potential in general but her material was always missing something for me, unlike 'You Bring Me Joy' for instance. Her version of 'Rolling In The Deep' on her first live show remains one of the best X Factor performances ever.

Delighted they're still getting label investment because they have so much to offer, with this track sounding like a prime example of that on first listen. So many great little elements to the production and layers of vocals/effects. Love the 'I'm sorry that I got a lot of questions' parts.
  10. 'Boyfriend' and 'U-turn' are good, if nothing particularly special (but then T&S have set sky-high standards for themselves). Both tracks are more straight-up pop than I was expecting, not that that's put me off at all but hopefully they'll grow on me with time and in the context of the album.
  11. Gah, she's incredible . Great (both for her and the show's legacy) that she was able to perform on the finale before it was too late! 'Catch My Breath' would indeed have been a fitting inclusion but on the whole there didn't seem to be any glaring omissions, and I liked the use of instrumentals and contrasting backing vocals to tie in more of her hits. 'Don't You Wanna Stay' and 'Invincible' getting such outings was unexpected - I thought the former worked well as it's always had quite a modern classic feel to it...the latter, not so much. Was thinking she'd close things out with another 'Piece By Piece' rendition but going back to the very start of her career was a much better way to finish it. This YouTube comment <3

  13. Not overly keen on her underdog shtick but this song's way more interesting and appealing to me than 'Here' ever was. Lovely, compelling production and it's clear she's a very talented lyricist.
  14. Ooh, exciting to see this up! May have to polish off my arsenal of MOR with the occasion that's in it. :music:
  15. The lyrical genius of 'ain't no getting off early' only just hit me. (About 80% behind this now :/)
  16. Always felt that this has the potential to get very irritating with the inevitable overexposure that comes with her single releases. A catchy song and solid single choice still though, and it's good to see a different side to her getting pushed.
  17. Fully agree. The entire package, musically and visually, feels like a natural partnership. A good example too of how to make a great video on the cheap! Instantly a fan of the song itself - reminds me a bit of Usher's 'Climax'.
  18. Mostly fond of that section, though I've never cared at all for 'Take It All'. I like the story behind 'My Same' and generally enjoy songs about artists' (platonic) friendships as it's not a theme explored enough in mainstream music I feel. Always found some of the lyrics a bit clumsy though which detracts from it. 'Sweetest Devotion' is quite a touching and fitting final thought on '25', and 'Rumour Has It' is always great to hear, if marred a little by its underwhelming chorus after such a captivating lead-in. 'Melt My Heart To Stone' is so underrated though - in another world it'd be a signature track of hers. Sounds like such a classic to me. <3
  19. Would struggle to think of a more satisfying winner than 'Lean On'. As Joseph said, it's always seemed that the song's universal and enduring appeal has been based very much on its own merits, with the collaboration of artists being far greater than the sum of its parts. Truly a groundbreaking track that hasn't approached feeling stale yet despite its huge exposure. 'Run Away With Me' is a great runner-up, if (dare I say it) a little overrated on here in general . I've never quite seen what's so overwhelmingly special about it, and definitely feel I'd enjoy it even more with a less sugary sweet-toned vocalist (oops), but that's just a matter of taste. Had no idea 'Worth It' was THAT popular . Oh Buzzjack. :') Yay for Tove and double Years & Years in the upper tier :cheer:. Thanks Joseph, Jordan, James and Seven (Union J teas~) for all the work that went into putting this together!
  20. I'd somehow remembered 'Release Me' as a faceless of-its-time hit that I'd happily never hear again but Jadakissnia ha unfaltering impact has made me do a 180° :o! So surprised with how well it's aged and how glorious the vocals sound in that chorus . Thanks for preventing me from unfairly writing the song off any longer. :D
  21. Des'ree just came out of 1998 nowhere to take me right back to my childhood in a wave of melodic glory <33333 (I hadn't recognised the name from the list because I'm a flop with these things :drama:). I'd imagine the last time 'Life' graced me was over a decade ago so it's a very welcome re-discovery! *catapults to +18 zone* Wish I didn't leave listening through all this properly until deadline day as I'm loving the contest so far. :music:
  22. Anticipated great things as soon as I saw this thread and 'Winterbreak' has managed to surpass them! I'm very likely to fall for anything with an Imogen Heap-esque vocoder but this really uses it to sublime effect <3. Quite an interesting song structurally too. always struck me as having elements of Fleetwood Mac (as well as HAIM and Tegan and Sara) so it's not surprising to see them cite the band as a big influence. 'Loudspeaker' is also good/more on the poppy side, if anyone's interested. :D
  23. Noahspike posted a post in a topic in Dance and Electronic
Good to see some 'Who Am I' appreciation. :D 'I Wanna Be' is similarly lush. The fusion of her tone with the production on these new tracks is what it's all about for me. In some ways, she's never sounded better.
  24. 'Countdown' (song + video) is one of her finest moments yet tends to be overlooked in general so it's great to see it finish as high as #11, frustrating as that position may be. Would've much preferred 'End Of Time' to also sneak into the top 10 over its inferior fellow '4' singles. Quite a surprising #1 :o but then it does seem that Beyoncé lacks the one or two universally loved tracks/obvious favourites (on here at least) that other artists have, so it makes sense that a song with solid appeal like 'Sweet Dreams' could dark horse it all the way. Definitely a song that only got better with time so I'm not complaining, especially with it beating 'Halo', which always felt to me like all style and no substance.
  25. Yeah I thought 'I Miss You' would have more support too. Don't quite get the draw of the song myself though. The instrumentation and lyrics are great and it all sounds very 'impressive', but there's not enough there to really hook me in and want to listen again. I guess it lacks a strong melody - something I always appreciate in her stuff.
