I agree with every point here...except I've started to really like the song despite everything after further listens. It all took a lot of getting used to but the sheer emotion driving the vocal cracks and straining has now outweighed their unpleasantness to the ear, even in that exposed section towards the end :magic:. I do find it a bit ridiculous that this of all tracks is leading an album in which Sia's 'acting' as other people, when to me everything about it sounds like a perfectly executed parody of herself! Not sure how any aspect of it fits with Adele (other than the RITD-esque beat, as said above) and yeah, I'm also really struggling to imagine her singing it. Would love to hear Adele's version though (and I'd probably prefer it) but Sia said in the interview posted earlier that Adele requested her demo not be sent around, so it's unlikely to ever surface. -_-

Heyyy Josh! Very much approve of your entire top 10 (well, minus 'Alone No More' as I'm unfamiliar, and '679' as I haven't yet got past Fetty's ~distinctive~ yodel-esque? vocals on that one). :D 'On My Mind' is very enjoyable (particularly the verses) and a solid lead single by most standards, but I have to admit it's a little underwhelming coming from Ellie. Was hoping for something more inspired but I'm sure there'll be other stuff on the album fitting the bill. I'm kinda fascinated by her career and looking forward to seeing what direction her music will take and how it's/she's marketed from here on out. ^_^ 'Love Me Like You' is wonderful - what a chorus! I can see it being a big moment in Little Mix's career (in the UK at least) over the coming months, especially with it sounding so seasonal. 'Do It Again' and 'Stitches' have both been growing on me a lot over the last while. Really hoping the latter goes top 10 over in the US as I can't stand a great song stalling at #11. :arrr: Gah, 'Runnin'' is stunnin'. It absolutely blew me away on first listen. I think it's just one of those tracks where every element (the two vocalists, lyrics, production) complements the others perfectly. 'Body On Me', 'Alive' and 'High By The Beach' are all great, along with loads more stuff further down - nice chart!

  4. I knew 'It Was Always You' was popular here but never would've thought it'd finish as high as sixth :o. Not complaining though as it's quite easily my favourite song from the last album. As for the top five, 'Harder To Breathe' is good but forgettable for me, but 'Makes Me Wonder' and 'Misery' are two of the band's catchiest tracks so it's great to see them so well regarded. I was absolutely obsessed with 'This Love' when it was everywhere back in 2004 - I remember turning on the radio while doing homework a few times solely in the hope that song would come on . I find it hasn't aged very well though, in contrast to the timeless quality of 'She Will Be Loved', so I'm rooting for the latter to get the #1. (Great rate by the way, Acidburn, and sorry for not rating - completely forgot to do it)!

Holy shit, I'm floored by this! Love everything about it (apart from the rather abrupt ending).

Some of the lyrics and the fast-paced delivery of the verses almost sound like a response to 'Don't' :o. Something quite Ed Sheeran about it all anyway. I'm not blown away by this but it's sounding better with each listen. The repetition in the chorus seemed lazy and weak at first but it's beginning to work for me now (which is reminiscent of the turnaround I had to 'Anything Could Happen', as has been said, but I'd imagine it'd be to a smaller degree). Need to hear the song in HQ to properly judge the production and some of the vocals, as parts seem a bit off. I'm impressed overall though and definitely anticipating the album more as a result.

yxSBRup9XP8 The clarity and strength of his live vocals continue to amaze me . Hopefully the performance results in a nice sales boost for the album.
  10. Yay, delighted to have qualified! Had a bad feeling since sending it that 'Cant Have' would very likely be my third DNQ in a row so I'm surprised to see it through, especially after getting only two Q predictions. Chuffed it found some fans - thanks for the votes! <3 On a less positive note~ +12 FARC: Ji Nilsson - Encore (Boeoes Kaelstigen Remix) +10 Q +08 Q +07 Deandria: LOLAWOLF - Calm Down +06 Q +05 Q +04 Greenfroze: Paul Rey - Good As Hell +03 Q +02 Federal Republic Of Ashton: Moriah Peters - I Don't Want To Live For Me +01 Q I thought FARC's wondrous entry would be a big hit, so that's a bit shocking :o. Likewise, I never thought Deandria would have a problem gathering enough support. Two great discoveries for me anyway, if that's any consolation. ^_^ Thanks for the work that went into hosting this, Iz. :D
  11. I don't think I can really distinguish between The Vamps' singles from memory, but they've always been decent, maybe with 'Sombody To You' as the vague highlight. Their singles discography is to me what 'Stay With Me'/'I'm Not The Only One' is to other members - I don't understand how people can have such vastly different opinions on them because they sound very similar to me.
  12. Especially unfortunate given they actually (comfortably) sold the most albums this week! Just can't compete with The Weeknd's TEA in particular though, what with him currently occupying the top two positions on the Hot 100. Nice to see him do the double this week anyway. Halsey's holding up much better than I expected based on other territories. :o
  13. Hi Seven :D Absolutely. I've been looking forward to his second album for years now and if 'Sharpness' (btw I really like your description of it ^_^) is any indication, he hasn't deviated too much from the sound and style that made his debut so amazing, so it's all pretty excitinggggggg. :cheer: Indeed, though I think I must have been overplaying it as it's currently not very high in my affections and will most likely plummet in the next chart OOPS. Thanks! Ahaha I'm glad you appreciated it as I realised afterwards that some of what I said had very little relation to your comment . Cheers! Hi UV! Yeah 'When Love Hurts' is good but it's really all about 'Save My Soul' for me. Would imagine you'd like it too if you're . :D Well in contrast, 'How Deep Is Your Love' will take a while to get old for me but I'm tiring of 'She's Kinda Hot' ^_^! Surprised the latter never quite caught on with the public though - very catchy track that deserves a better peak/run. Excited for CHVRCHES' album as well! And what's more, I still need to hear the most recent track from it, which I see is picking up rave reviews in the album thread :o. All bodes very well~ Ooh, for me it'd go 'I Will Never Let You Down' > 'Body On Me' >>>>>>>>>>>> 'Poison'. B-) Indeed, 'Run Away With Me' is pretty much perfectly executed pop, and 'Love Myself' and 'Black Magic' come close too. Would love an official top 40 placing for Carly but it's not looking likely. :/ 'Shower' - need to revisit that! 'Break A Sweat' isn't up there with it but definitely another enjoyable bop so would . :music: I think I've heard a few other Shawn Mendes songs and was generally impressed but can't remember any in particular . 'Stitches' wouldn't usually be my thing but it's fantastic. Ah, interesting that you bought the Sia album at this stage. I will get around to listening to it someday as I've liked/loved all the singles. I hadn't thought of it but I agree with you on 'What Kind Of Man' being the best thing from the era, and I find the album pretty strong overall. The song and its video are just so captivating. <3 Still too early for me to compare 'High By The Beach' to Lana's other leads but I'm certainly liking it at the moment. Haha, I think I tend to be very tolerant of Chris Brown songs/features in general compared to the average Buzzjacker and really like his contribution to 'Do It Again'! Actually, it's some of Pia's vocals that I find a bit dodgy/odd. Thanks for all the comments!

After a few listens, the album isn't quite doing it for me (frustratingly) :(. I think it's because the whole thing is still a little jarring, having heard (and in most cases been very familiar with) the majority of tracks, so hearing them interspersed with new ones takes a fair bit of adjustment. I hope I'll get past that soon because it's clearly a hugely passionate and all-round impressive record, full of varied influences and production, underpinned by his distinctly captivating vocals. It's just very evident throughout that the album was a real labour of love for him, and sounds all the better for it. Of the songs I hadn't heard, nothing touches the catchiness of 'Walk' or the emotional impact of 'Perfect Ruin', but they're all solid and more than deserving of their places. The title track is probably my favourite of them, working wonderfully as a bold, statement opener. 'My Own' is also very strong - probably the most conventional R&B track he's ever done and it suits him perfectly. <3 Really hope the album keeps its top 20 position by Friday, though top 30 is probably more realistic. He's on Jools Holland tonight which'll help matters anyway. :D

Nope, I thought the same! Initially I thought she had a look of Beyoncé about her but soon realised it was a strong resemblance to Solange. Loved everything about her audition anyway - possibly my favourite so far. Quite liked Neneth, Jade, Brodie and Havva from last weekend as well. The girl from Rock & Rose has a fantastic voice and, although she could have smiled more, I thought her not giving a shit about endearing herself to the judges/audience was actually quite refreshing! Also, I don't think it's just because she's Irish but she really reminded me of a young Róisín Murphy. /Louis

Hmm, I liked Nick but I don't think I'll miss him. Not sure I fully get why people generally seem to love him so much, ironically or otherwise. His 'moments' were pretty few and far between for me, and mostly unintentional or simply a disapproving look he gave a contestant, which is only so endearing/entertaining after seeing him do it for a decade! I have high hopes for Claude anyway, because he's always been very quick and perceptive, and I expect he'll bring some of his harsh interviewing style and cutting remarks to the boardroom. The Apprentice never disappoints so I'm pretty excited for this series to start. :D
  17. k~ Well I absolutely LOVED this back in the day, and would still consider it one of Rihanna's catchiest, most irresistible songs. I have a clear memory of being on a very boring car journey through the Irish midlands with my mum when this song came on the radio, giving me instant life *.* (except no one would have known this as I remained slouched against the car door gazing sleepily at the never-ending fields of sheep B-)). Then, as if on cue, my mum immediately started waffling on about something and I made sure to answer her sharply to make her stop but she just kept going and I was getting severely irritated as the first chorus was approaching rapidly so, rather than straight-up telling her to just SHUT UP (and drive :kink:), I gradually turned the radio up to drown her out until she eventually got the idea. ^_^
  18. Great that Tori got a good post-VMAs boost with 'Should've Been Us', despite falling airplay. I much prefer it to 'Nobody Love' so I'm glad it's officially her biggest hit. :D I feel like Justin Bieber bookending the top 10 is like an answer to his haters who would've called him irrelevant: 'What Do You Mean Where Are Ü Now'? :') Florina nu Aquafina in the cheap stakes (albeit with a year in between).
  19. Wow, that is indeed awful! I'd say the chorus/hook is the only aspect of the song with potential. As it is though, the production and vocal delivery just plod along, never going anywhere and sapping any life from the whole thing. Charli is way too prominent in the chorus as well.
  20. OMG JOSHUA SLAY ME WITH YO HUGE ESSAY OF MUSICAL MUSINGS YASSSSS Hello Josh B-) My thoughts exactly! The whole thing gets the empowerment message across effortlessly. And yeah, her voice has always been great but for whatever reason sounds especially awesome in the song and seems really suited to the sort of rushed phrasing throughout it. I don't know why but I really love her unusual intonation when she sings the title/start of the chorus. I'd agree that 'Leave A Trace' wouldn't quite be up there with their best but it's definitely solid and has been subtly growing a lot on me lately, so it's too early to say for sure. 'The Mother We Share' was so instant though and hasn't lost its appeal at all so I don't imagine it'll be overtaken easily (and I love 'Gun' too). I've actually been quite impressed over the years with how Calvin regularly switches things up and hasn't overly relied on his winning formula, but yeah I don't think I'd have guessed 'How Deep Is Your Love' is a Calvin production. That said, it's characteristically bold and infectious despite the experimentation. A week at #1 would've been great as it's one of his best for me, and that's saying something. ^_^ Interesting that you think of Rita as consistent because I think of her as anything but . I don't know, she's had some good songs but they always seem so faceless to me and very loosely connected to each other artistically. 'Body On Me' feels really suited to her though, more so than her big hits. She really shines on it and Chris' contribution is typically great too. Ah wow, that's high praise! I think if I'd heard 'Trip Switch' at the same time as 'Graveyard Whistling' I'd have had a hard time deciding which to enter BJSC as I love both...but actually the former sounds a little more accessible so maybe that would have swung it. Ajanbuanda would've happened so much sooner in that case gah . An album would indeed be amazing! The frontman's vocals are outstanding in any style of song from what I've heard. Oh I'm hoping Lana nabs the #1 album too, if only to keep up the streak, but yeah she's seemingly got a lot of stiff competition. Wow, rare to hear of someone preferring 'Ultraviolence' to its predecessor :o! I think it gets a bit unfairly criticised as well because it's a very cohesive piece of work, but I guess it's not surprising given the very high standards set by 'Born To Die'. Ooh that's interesting as I wouldn't think of 'Do It Again' as being like an Ariana song, and I'd have to disagree about it being better than her stuff as I adore the post-album singles of 'My Everything' in particular. I actually find Pia's vocals sort of uncontrolled/seemingly out of tune in most of the song though, and now thinking about it, I guess her tone isn't far off Ariana's . The chorus is easily the best part of the song for sure, and yeah an official top 10 would be much deserved. Thaaaaanksssss! :D Ah, that's a lot you're liking this month! Particularly cool that you approve of the Jamie Woon single, as it's sublime and I'd love to see more people getting into his material. <3 Thanks Harry. :D
  21. Gah, I would have much preferred a 'Born To Die' win, despite being very fond of 'National Anthem'. To me, the former just sums up her appeal better than anything else she's done. I think of it as her signature track, even over 'Video Games'. Silly people throwing around -1s willy-nilly. :nono: Another quality rate, Joe, made all the better by your hosting skills. Thanks for doing it! :D
  22. Monstrous sales for The Weeknd! Very few acts can do those numbers now, not to mention outside Q4, and he doesn't strike me as an obvious huge album seller so I'm very impressed. Great to see him on such a marked upward sales trajectory as well, especially given that 'Kiss Land' has a respectable total (though apparently his compilation album 'Trilogy', which was released a year earlier, is on 560k :o). Halsey's commercial success everywhere continues to mystify me, but fair play to her! Her popularity and any hype around the album seems to have completely passed me by. Only heard a few of her songs, all of which are decent, so will have to check out the album soon.
  23. #6 is a satisfying result for 'West Coast' I think. The disjointed structure and abrupt tempo changes take a lot of getting used to and understandably mean it'll never appeal to everyone. I agree with Joe that it's one of her most memorable songs and I don't think I'll ever get bored of returning to it, unlike some of her other singles. A very complex track yet pulled off so gracefully.
  24. That single cover is hilariously lazy but wow, they'd sure make a good-looking couple! :o This is pretty good for what it is (i.e. a mid-tempo folk-pop love song/duet which is never going to appeal much to me). A pleasant, catchy song and they both sound great, unsurprisingly. Would be nice to see this get some radio exposure and success as I've always had such a soft spot for Nuhdeen. <3 'Making Of' video: LrtFFds_TUs She's so exaggerated in everything she does - even when she's nodding along to what he's saying, she looks so insincere . Gotta love her!
