  1. My expectations weren't high after 'Hold My Hand' but I'm definitely on board with this - everything about it is just glorious, especially that post-chorus.. Who knew a love yourself/empowerment anthem could feel so effortless? :o
  2. Outstanding video for an outstanding song . Love the concept, the setting, the editing, the personality of the whole thing - my favourite part being 'the fantasy falls apart' at 00:48-00:53. <3 It's not fair that this guy isn't huge. -_-
  3. Better late than never! :magic: Didn't get as much chance as usual to check out new music last month due to a combination of faulty headphones and being overwhelmed by dissertation writing :drama:. The one for August should be a good bit fresher. :music: ~~~~~ JULY Songs http://oi61.tinypic.com/imow3l.jpg 01 | ** | Years & Years | Eyes Shut 02 | ** | Lauv | Reforget 03 | ** | 5 Seconds Of Summer | She's Kinda Hot 04 | ** | John Newman | Come And Get It 05 | 08 | Selena Gomez ft. 4. Any chance of her having even modest commercial success after delaying her solo career for so long was obliterated when 'Threads' was chosen as the track to launch her. Legitimately one of the worst attempts at a debut single I've ever heard and, harsh as it may be because she's a nice person, she didn't deserve any better than she got with it.
  5. Realistically he's never gonna produce a bad track as he's such an expert at what he does but this isn't really grabbing me right now, though I'd say it's very likely to grow. I do think his music works so much better in album format rather than listening to individual songs (with 'Mirrorwriting' being among my all-time favourite albums and 'Night Air' the only track I'd seek out on its own) so I'm still beyond excited for the long-awaited follow-up. <3

:hi: Haven't heard your #1 (I would check it out now but my headphones are still broken :) and if I played it without them I'd annoy the neighbours :)). I guess the song really clicked when you saw him live then? I really like 'Should've Been Us', much more so than 'Nobody Love'. There's something about her/her voice (and that song too) that makes me think she would have done much better if she was around a decade earlier. I don't know, everything about her seems quite dated which is kind of a shame cos she's really talented obviously. -_- I see you've come around to 'Hold My Hand' and I distinctly remember you saying you weren't a fan when it was released :o! Is it getting a bit of radio play over there or just grown on you in general? Gah 'Come And Get It' is such a jam . You would not believe the level of restraint I have to employ to stop myself bopping along to it as I go about my day in public. :cheeseblock:

  9. Well it wasn't a completely ridiculous decision considering she was promoting her Greatest Hits album first and foremost :P. Also, that X Factor final performance was the one to accompany the montage of the series IIRC so 'Breakaway' was probably deemed most appropriate by producers (?) (though 'Catch My Breath' would have worked just fine too). Speaking of missed opportunities, I always thought it was a shame she was too sick to come to the UK to promote her Christmas album as I'm sure 'Underneath The Tree' would have had a nice peak if it got a performance or two. It had all the makings of a hit, much like 'One More Sleep', but I guess it did well to go top 30 officially when it only had radio play.

  14. 'Nobody's Perfect' is among her best for me, though is very much let down by the 'I guess karma comes back around' insight. :hithead: I agree with the commentary that 'Who You Are' is great lyrically and melodically. I just much prefer any other version to the original as Jessie's oversinging is at its absolute worst on that one. 'Wild' FTW :cheer:
  15. Yep but in her interview (at 10:58 after they relive her VT ), Davina confirms it! As for the worst housemate ever, I don't think I've felt as many different negative emotions at once (or cringed as often) as I did when watching Steven last year. His ego, treatment of Kimberly and general obnoxious behaviour were all infuriating. :drama:
  16. Not enough love for Bonnehhhhh . Such a tragic first evictee :( SHE HAD SO MUCH MORE TO GIVE! Her eviction interview was kind of amazing for no particular reason. I think I just like hearing her speak/answer questions. <333 _ec1AsoRu60
  17. Aw I really liked Rachel :(. For someone so nice/normal/'dull', she was actually involved in a lot of the action throughout the series I thought, albeit mainly because Rex seemed to really have it in for her for whatever reason. Also, I just liked the way she handled herself and managed to keep incredibly positive and seemingly unaffected by all the bitching and drama throughout, so I thought she was a deserving winner in that sense (not so much for entertainment value). I voted Josie as I remember finding her increasingly smug once she realised how popular her shtick was on the outside. She could be pretty horrible to Caoimhe as well due to jealousy over her friendship with John James. I really liked her to begin with but her persona seemed more and more forced and I'd gone right off her by the end. That said, she was easily one of the most entertaining housemates in that series, which says a lot about the quality of the cast.
  18. Ryan seems like he'd be very well suited to the job. Congrats Ryan! :D

  22. Hmm I like it, particularly the lyrics (unsurprisingly), but it's a bit awkwardly put together. It's really in need of a pre-chorus, especially at 1:40 when the second chorus starts abruptly and it's all pretty jarring. Quite an odd middle 8 as well. Definitely my least favourite of her songs on first impression but I might grow to love its unconventionality. ^_^
  23. Music videos really don't come much better than that :o. Everything about it is breathtaking (including her, like omg) and it fits the song to a tee. It's more than done its job in terms of the song clicking with me as well.
  24. Aaron and Faye are still together as far as I know so that was hardly a showmance :P! Also, I definitely got the impression from both themselves and Jay & Louise that they genuinely liked each other/were good matches and weren't forcing relationships for attention. I disagree as well about that series not being worth watching. Aaron was one of the most fascinating housemates ever for me - clever, witty, eccentric and yet annoying in equal measure and a bit of an emotional wreck throughout but relatably so. It wasn't exactly the most explosive series ever but there were interesting dynamics going on between a lot of them which made it very watchable (Harry and Alex' unlikely friendship, Faye and her sister's oddly competitive relationship and Aaron and Anton's rivalry, and particularly Aaron's effortless ability to show him up for the arrogant fool that he was without resorting to personal attacks, which I found pretty impressive). I thought the series was refreshing overall with a largely likeable yet diverse set of characters so I really don't understand why it gets such a bad rap on here! Anyway, I'm voting for Luke A as he was pretty dull and negative throughout, and a very underwhelming winner.
  25. Tempted to send my recent surprise megaflop 'Beauty', out of curiosity as to how hindered it was by its particular semi. *megaflops again regardless*
