Hello there ;o The Weeknd bookending your top 10 is surely something you'd have struggled to believe not long ago, right?! Great to see as they're both wonderful in very different ways. I think your respective chart runs are really apt for them actually - 'I Feel It Coming' as the undeniable, instant fave, and 'Starboy' being the hypnotic slow-burner. <3 I heard 'Caroline' yesterday evening towards the end of my marathon BJSC entry search :drama:! A jam-and-at-least-three-halves it must be said but pretty darn x-rated, oh my :o. I briefly considered linking it to my friend/workmate of the same name but decided I didn't wanna...make her uncomfortable lol. Shall stick to Outkast's opus, 'Roses'. :') Happy to see 'Water Under The Bridge' on the rise! Where would it rank among the four singles for you at this stage? :o (Also, messt @ '24k Magic' never touching #24 , Maroon 5 plummeting even further from #5 , and '80s Mercedes' even being in this chart, ugh . You've let your standards slip~   ...a fall to #19 next month for 'The Greatest' though and all is forgiven.) Troll-y troll troll. Great stuff overall, especially with the debuts for 'So Good', 'Rockabye', 'Love$ick', and 'Human'. :D
  2. Ooh, I haven't checked out that Alpines track but am encouraged by your chart run! Not sure if you've heard but that's a real beaut so I've no excuse for not delving further into their material. Lovely, moody, cinematic stuff~ I like that Louis Tomlinson track a lot more than I'd care to admit, haha. Vocally poor/irksome but a nice sentiment and semi-addictive beat. Much prefer his former bandmate's Taylor duet though, so great to see that also gracing your top 5. The Weeknd, The Veronicas, Little Mix, and Robbie are among other faves here. Nice one, James. :D
  3. Hiii James! My thoughts exactly on 'Touch' - it's even more faceless than 'Black Magic', but utterly irresistible. Has to be up with their best on sheer replay-ability alone. :music: I adore 'Prodigal Son' more and more each time I listen. Got that signature Rationale boom~ of a chorus. Would put it above 'Fast Lane' but some way behind 'Fuel To The Fire', which is still high praise! Thanks. :D How's about before the (same) weekend is even out?! :o :o :o Haha yep, 'September Song' feels like a really fresh addition to the UK top 10 (and I'm talking sonically and thematically rather than it literally being a new resident, ha). I noticed JP's live performances have been slowed-down acoustic versions so I assume the song started that way and was made more overtly commercial, but I really like its pacing and production. Lyrics of the second verse are the highlight for me. <3 Arghhh, 'Change My Love' makes me feel so warm and nostalgic , but I'm not that surprised it flopped really :(. Fully agree on the flutes though! Yes I'm all about 'False Alarm' for next single - would continue to show some nice variety too (on an ultimately quite bloated and same-y album)! Yeah I guess the somewhat underwhelmed reaction to 'I Don't Wanna Live Forever' is interesting, especially as both artists have experienced a fair bit of negative publicity last year. Intrigued to see how their respective next proper releases fare. Have to bear in mind the song's not the most mass-appealing I guess, and Zayn's falsetto's probably a turn-off for many, but I agree that I t's underrated. -_- 'When Christmas Comes Around' is really lovely, if a bit forgettable yeah. Would imagine I'll return to it anyway (if I manage to remember). Job well done by XF this time, I'd say. Think 'Million Reasons' may be the best I've ever heard Gaga vocally, definitely from the live performances of it anyway :o. Not overly keen on the repetition though. I think I'm fine with her potentially flopping with every release from now on - she had a spectacular run commercially and will have enough support to keep making music and have it received at least moderately for the rest of her life, so no huge loss/injustice IMO. Yesss, there's such a gap for M.O and I feel like I've been willing them on to fill it for an eternity now, haha. Great to see them trying to build on their momentum, though 'Not In Love' hasn't made a huge impression on me from initial listens but we'll see~ And yes 'Ordinary' ain't anything special. Still need to listen to their album one of these days. ;o Cheers for the thoughts, Mango! I'm delighted I managed to respond during the same year this time. :teresa:
  4. Hmm, I prefer 'Unstable' actually and I think it's got a lot more identity, but that video is awesome! I feel like if I was a popstar I'd probably suggest playing a rigorous game of ping pong as the sole concept of a video and hope someone would let me. I like this guy.
  5. This album took several attempts to hit, a select few tracks aside, but I'm so glad I persevered. One of those dark, deeply contemplative records that gets under your skin and reveals new dimensions with each listen. Feel like I've been missing his voice for years now as I used to hammer his debut ('Soundtrack 2 My Life' was my school bus jam for a year solid lol), and then strangely didn't pay him much attention afterwards. Will be sure to belatedly check out stuff from the intervening years based off the sublime quality of this anyway. 'Surfin'', 'By Design', 'Swim In The Night', 'The Guide' and 'Does It' are just some of the highlights...but 'Dance 4 Eternity' does things to me every time.
  6. Absolutely sensational graphics/formatting, my goddddd <333. Awesome job there, Leww! Recognise more than usual and see a couple of potentials, which is understandable given the longer lead-in. Excited to get started!
  7. Not overly familiar with him but 'Unstable' shows a lot of promise. Vocally and lyrically it'd certainly indicate to me that he's a cut above, so definitely looking forward to hearing more.

Baffling, to the degree of the Leona and Nicole (alleged) snubs of 'We Found Love'! Must've been a timing thing as there's really no other explanation considering it's absolutely tailor-made, as you say. Anyway, I championed this as a single too long ago so am well over it at this stage :/. May well get a second wind if I can't escape it on radio etc. though~

Multiple plays later and 'Shape Of You' is yet to make any sort of impression on me, and despite the sentimentality throughout 'Castle On The Hill', it's only the chorus that resonates. That chorus is properly gorgeous though <3 and it's exciting to witness the scale of his chart dominance with both tracks regardless. Not sure the cover has been confirmed yet but all signs point to that being the case, especially as he's filming a video in Ireland and needs Irish dancers ;o. This song is pretty much a staple closer in any unpretentious Irish club and always gets a massive reception, so I'm intrigued to hear and see what Ed does with it!
  10. Very late but have to thank you for that as I'm not sure I did at the time! Much as I'd love to finally see a nul-pointer like everyone else, I'd be mildly devastated if that accolade was mine...and for 'I Can't Hear God Anymore' of all entries. </3 That song was the surest I've been of a DNQ on entering a contest but I did think/hope it'd connect properly with more than one participant (though I do recall Klumzee praising it too! lol), and it made the strongest impression on me of anything else at the time so I've no regrets sharing it here. Having said that, I first heard it just as news reports of the Orlando shootings were breaking, so the way it perfectly soundtracked my mood would've been unique and unlikely to be replicated, given it's all very sombre. Ah well, thankful it found that one fellow admirer anyway!
  11. Yesss @ noted Desbuonica smashes 'Winterbreak' and 'Cash Flow' finishing comfortably top 10 here! Have to agree I'm surprised the former didn't nab the #1, though I guess you can't argue with TEARS nor a monstrous ethnobanger to the dimensions of 'Aide' (which I'm listening back to now and you're right, it really doesn't lose its deranged charm or potency)~ Other standouts include 'Love Druggie', 'Blue Lights', 'Colorblind Cruisin'', 'Prisoner', 'First Time He Kissed A Boy', 'Want You', 'Tun Up', 'Threshold', and of course 'Matadora', which I thought would be Desbuanda's best shot here but knew wasn't guaranteed. Chuffed that it finishes the year with a cult hit status akin to the wondrous 'Winterbreak'.
  12. Jade <3 Actually feel somewhat ~honoured~ that two Desbuanda tracks made your top 60 given your unparalleled love and passion for BJSC and its discoverables! (Hard to believe you were once reluctant to join this thing, right?!) Thinking back, I was probably proudest to send 'Matadora' and 'XXX ANGEL DUST XXX' of all my entries last year, so it's lovely to read your words...and very insightful too - that was the first I'd known of both the existence of the charango in general and 'bring out the milk' :o <333. Makes me love the latter track even more, haha. I know you speak español but the research evident (throughout your paragraphs) is so impressive. Great taste to be found elsewhere too (:kink:). Wonderful seeing 'Ilumbarada', 'Sphynx', 'Better Life', 'Stanga', 'Water Frozen' and 'Free Tibet' in the upper tiers and rightfully praised so highly. Really outstanding effort overall - bet it feels good to have that behind you now!

  14. <insert obligatory apology for ridiculously late reply and naive intention to improve> Heya Mango, belated happy new year! Ah I find the repetition in 'I Feel It Coming' is partly what makes it so addictive, but good to hear you're enjoying it still like seemingly everyone else on the Buzzsphere. :music: Yeah, I found Bastille's album pretty unremarkable the couple of times I've listened so I can't say the commercial decline is undeserved. I do think there are potential singles there though, 'Warmth' being one of most obvious. Oh dear, the fact your comment/post came before Little Mix's XF performance and I'm only replying now, gahhh. :''') Anyway, it was really good, right?!!! 'Touch' was made to be performed in a huge arena alongside high-energy choreography, and it was great to see that delivered in spades. I think the song's the best of a relatively poor bunch (which I think is an apt way to describe 'Glory Days' - merely a 'bunch' of throwaway songs), so I'm all for the attention and chart reception it's experiencing at the moment. Impatiently awaiting the video too~ Yep I heard 'Better Love' on the radio during a visit home to Ireland several months ago and it grew and grew, until I really had to chart it appropriately. Looking forward to new stuff from Hozier as his voice and songwriting are outstanding. Glad you're a fan of the Emeli remix, frantic as it is, and yeah Sean Paul's recent features have been inspired - my favourite has to be his turn on Little Mix's 'Hair'. <3 Re: my #50, I fully agree. I certainly don't endorse cannibalism of geriatrics but I DETEST mushrooms so it's a tough one. Thanks as ever! Hey James, hope you're well. :D I still marginally prefer 'Starboy' I think, but indeed, what an utter jam of magnificent dimensions *.* And yep, I'd put 'Rather Be', 'Real Love' and perhaps a couple of others ahead of 'Rockabye' too. Enjoying it though~ Cheers! Hey there! Yep, I actually encountered Röyksopp via the Genre Forum Song Contest and couldn't get enough afterwards. Thanks for the comment and I will return the favour in the not-so-distant future I promise! :arrr: Hello Joseph! Yeah I took to 'Touch' immediately when giving the album a listen and I prefer it to the lead single too. Tailor-made for radio and it'll be a great track to have in their back catalogue for future tour performances etc. And yeah Emeli's album was underwhelming for me too, though I felt that there was a lot of merit to most songs - they just generally weren't to my taste really. I think 'Garden' is a real slow-burner and a clear standout as you say, but I get that it's a bit...sparse and disjointed so is better left as an album track. Thanks for your comments, Joseph. Hope things are good with you. ^_^
  15. Hey Chez, I've been looking for TV viewing recommendations lately, especially over the holidays, so I'll remember to return to this thread! Currently fixated on season three of Homeland <3. You seen it? Finished Stranger Things a few days ago and enjoyed it for the reasons you mentioned, though I did feel my interest wane a bit as the series went on. A few too many unanswered questions/small inconsistencies/unclear motivations etc. so I'll be sure to check out how the story progresses in the next season. I should say though that sci-fi is never my genre of choice so I'm probably searching for realism where I shouldn't and putting too much emphasis on everything 'adding up'! Totally agree though on the young actors being revelations in carrying the show so well. I was actually put off at first by the cast's youth but they were superbly written and played...though I could've done without Lucas's incessant negativity and narrow-mindedness haha. (Wasn't sure whether to spoiler or not but did just in case B-))
  16. Been keeping up with this thread and it's been a great read as ever, Jord! Love the mix of factual and personal insight in your retrospectives, especially as the majority of songs featured so far haven't been ones I've followed closely myself. Agree with you on 'Me Too'. It's always felt like Meghan's been on borrowed time so I think you could say she jumped the shark with that. Thing is, while I've little 'respect' for her music or artistry, I do admire her creativity and ability to shamelessly spin novelty in different ways to build her name...and 'Me Too' is one of her more infectious offerings, so I'm a bit conflicted. I get that the song's objectionable but its catchiness and charm far outweigh that for me. I guess opting for something so ridiculous to launch her album was ultimately quite risky given 'No' hadn't quite smashed. I'd say it's still a bit of an inexplicable flop overall (albeit nowhere near the level of 'Something In The Way You Move' of course ). Going way back, I liked your write-up on Alessia's 'Scars...'. Her songwriting always feels strikingly honest in dealing with personal themes affecting her age-group without any pretence/efforts to relate to an older audience, which actually seems quite rare in mainstream music. Reminds me of Lorde's debut album in that way, with Alessia's lyrics being more direct and literal. Listened to that Jon Bellion track on the strength of your words and it didn't disappoint, and I get the Jack Garratt feel in the production (and think he's a bit Twenty One Pilots vocally ). I'll also credit your Beyoncé paragraph when I finally listen to 'Lemonade' in full one of these days! Don't think it's coming to Spotify anytime soon so Tidal may just get a new subscriber this month despite all market projections to the contrary. :yahoo:
  17. Interested to hear the studio version as wasn't sure what to make of this live. Thought Matt's inaugural performance fell a bit flat (not that all songs are tailored to that particular context), but there seemed to be a good melody and sentiment there. Really clever of the show to push a Christmas track anyhow with it giving them both a decent shot at #1 and a ready-made justification for its collapse!
  18. I think something has to be said as well for Matt's rebound effect following his bottom two in the semis. He topped the vote five times so clearly had a solid fanbase, and that support being forced to mobilise going into the final was the best thing that could've happened to him. Fair to say 'It's Oh So Quiet' wasn't the wisest choice to clinch the win from him though.
  19. Omg I just got caught in a double post. ;o
  20. Saara: Best reality TV 'story' in an age, and just a super talented, versatile, and naturally charismatic performer brimming with loveliness. Saara: Can't help being an optimist, and holding onto the thought that long-time viewers may be turned off by the prospect of a Matt win. Saara: Ultimately it has to be Saara, as her contribution to the series is undeniable, though Relley's more up my street as an artist. Ryan: At least Elyar Fox had a cool name. Standout performances include Relley's 'Shackles', Saara's 'It's Oh So Quiet' (as it felt like her arrival and showed off how special she is), and 5 After Midnight's 'One Dance' audition.

  22. Hiya Mango :hi: Awesome to see 'Love My Life' at #1 here! Was only earlier this evening that I remembered to check it out again, having been pleasantly surprised by his XF performance several weeks ago. Not the kind of thing I'd usually go for but something about the simplicity/directness of the lyrics really connects, and I also find it admirable that Robbie'd come back with a track this overtly...sappy haha. That's an interesting stat re: Adele's '25' singles in your chart :o. She has a #1, a #2, and a #7 on mine, with 'Send My Love...' being the non-top 10. Hard to say if she's had a stronger singles run this era than last, but I definitely think she/her team has a talent for making the right choices at the right times. Can't think of anything else on either album that's been overlooked in terms of commercial potential. Heard 'Change My Love' on the radio the other day when I was rushing around before leaving to catch a flight, so was trying to remember the lyrics so I could search later as I couldn't Shazam/hang around...but I ended up forgetting everything :'). Did think it could be Craig David but wasn't sure if it was current or an old track. Anyway, you've solved it for me so thanks! Listening now, I think it's instantly my fave from his rebirth - just lovely, warm, melodic, 90s throwback goodness. Want to like 'Breathing Underwater' as I love 'Hurts' (and Emeli herself seems lovely) but I'm just not feeling it. I guess the big, gospel sound makes it stand out so I can see why it was pushed, but it's too repetitive and comes off a bit try-hard to me. 'Garden' is my initial fave of the rest on the album. Good chart elsewhere, especially with the climbs for The 1975, 'I Feel It Coming' (<33333), and 'Saint Claude', and the debuts for Lady Gaga, 'Human', and 'Black Beatles'. :D

  24. Really late again with these replies, sorry! Will add it to my NY resolutions list as something to rectify. B-) Hey James :hi: Yeah, I was never hugely invested in 'The Greatest' and its appeal wasn't the most enduring. Solid enough track though and was great seeing it launched as a big hit from the off. Thanks! Hi! Yep, I was a big fan of 'Communion' and am really looking forward to new stuff, so 'Meteorite' is good to have in the interim. I've been awful lately at Buzzjack posting, let alone checking out personal charts, but your request's been noted so watch out over the next few days weeks months! Cheers for commenting. :D Hello Mango ^_^ I think Emeli's comeback track is awesome (and underappreciated) on its own merits but the pace of the remix elevates it to perfection :music:. Was a bit obsessed with it for a while - would higly recommend! Yeah, I adore the verses in 'False Alarm', though can't say its appeal is any more lasting than 'Starboy' as yet. Would be a good single after 'I Feel It Coming' has its time at the forefront (which may end up as my fave on the album). Hmm I like 'Meteorite' a lot but I think that's mainly down to being deprived of new Y&Y material . Nothing special to me so not overly bothered or surprised it underperformed. I'd be inclined to agree with you on 'True Disaster' from a commercial perspective. It's more instant, accessible and radio-friendly than the actual lead, but I think 'Cool Girl' is much more interesting so am happy it got a push, if only because it showed a nice progression. Thanks as ever! Apologising to me for lateness lol. :''''') (Forgiven, must do better next time y'hear!) Ah that's great to hear you're enjoying the Banks album. Just listened again earlier while out for a walk and 'This Is Not About Us' stood out more than ever, but I agree the whole thing maintains a high standard. The 'Gemini Feed' chorus is one of the best moments on the album so I'm glad to hear it's being employed to help flog things, yay. :D 'Side To Side' came up on shuffle just as I'm writing this so that's convenient ;o. Yeah Ariana's impressed me a lot this year. Still haven't given the album a proper listen I don't think, despite seeing praise for it everywhere. May just have to allow the next single to blow me away independently, as seems to be the case with all her post-album picks. <3 I found Little Mix's album disappointing aside from a few (throwaway) tracks, but Shawn's one's on my list so that's helpful to hear~ Thanks for the thoughts, Joseph! Hiya Jord :hi: I remember hearing that Mura Masa track a little while ago and liking, but I just think Banks captures the title/theme completely with her lyrics . Yeah I'd agree 'Mercy' is a step up from 'Treat You Better'. I'd find the latter a little...stalkerish/possessive if it wasn't coming from someone as innocent looking as Shawn. Omg @ those numerical observations :cheeseblock:. Hadn't noticed any of them when compiling somehow :drama:. Three more jobs you should've taken care of when I drafted you in to make my chart presentable~ :teresa: And Alessia's plummet is down to excessive plays if anything - needed to rest the song after using it to blast away all insecurities related to mah beautiful. B-) Aw thanks for marking the big anniversaries :party2:. Pretty impressed with myself for maintaining it so long, even if that involved posting on the 17th of the month one time. :') Shall look forward to your return stronger, faster and trollier than ever before~ Muchas gracias. ^_^ Ah thanks 360Jupiter! I would say striking is a good way to describe the offaiah 'Hurts' remix, so you should definitely give it a go, and I agree on 'Warmth' being a standout on the Bastille record. Hasn't (yet) been made a single but I'm fully behind it being selected next. Thought the album was good but samey and drawn-out overall, though that song clicked effortlessly. 'First Time He Kissed A Boy' came into my life via this site's song contest actually (entered by popchartfreak), but I see now it's two years old which I hadn't realised. ;o Yeah The Japanese House make consistently good, subtle yet engaging stuff. Was chuffed to see them make the Sound Of 2017 list. 'Clean' would be my fave of theirs I'd say. Did a quick Google and can't find any insight into the Sandoval family tree haha, but that may just be because Danelle is too unknown as of now. 'Tuesday' is a jam-and-a-half anyway. :music: Hadn't actually got to 'Don't Wish Me Well' as was interrupted when giving the album a listen, but hearing now and it's quite lovely. Just noticed Solange seems like a bit of a diva from the titles on this album - must remember not to: - touch her hair - wait - wish her well if we ever meet~ Ah, will have to check out Filous (reminds me of Petits Filous/my childhood<3), and yep try-hard is exactly what 'That's My Girl' is. Have to admire their ambition and perseverance in general, even if the music's generally uninspired and hit-and-miss. Appreciate all your comments - very nice to hear :D. Will try my best to return the favour as I'm sure we have a fair bit of overlapping taste. Cheers!
  25. Yeah, I hadn't realised she's 'only' sold 280k copies of 'Our Version Of Events', so that opening for a hit-less follow-up isn't surprising. I'd thought she'd made a bigger dent stateside, I guess mainly due to how inescapable she was over here for such a sustained period.
