  1. Interesting strategy from Olly's label releasing the album so quickly without trying to build a hit of any sort out of 'Wrapped Up'. The album was never going to debut high but I guess there's a chance it could be revived and at least it's out there for fans. It was definitely a mistake not leading with 'Up' though IMO (unless it was blocked due to Demi's upcoming release plans or something).
  2. Yesssss, suberb winner - congrats Rabbitfurcoat! 'Thank You' was a big standout for me and I appreciate the discovery. Also very pleased with the high finishes for Little May and Geographer in particular. :D Not at all surprised at Hogan's utter flop! I'm not a massive fan of it myself but was determined to make my Nuggets debut with an Irish act and hadn't got anything else fitting the bill that I remotely liked at the time unfortunately. Still, good to see it appealed to a few others! Really enjoyed the format (especially the reveal of who's who) and contest overall, which was largely down to the excellent hosting job so WD Riser! Looking forward to the next one. ^_^
  3. Voted! Three clear standouts and another few I'll be taking away from this. Great standard overall so looking forward to seeing what comes out on top. ^_^

The track finished in the runner-up slot behind Hushkanukia's song 'St. Patrick' by PVRIS, receiving a whopping nine sets of top marks from voters which went towards a final tally of 195 points. The Desbuandese people have rejoiced at the news of Eves' impressive performance, with widespread celebration of the song prompting a quadrupling of TV imports over the last fortnight even though the country is still almost entirely without mains electricity. Thanks to all who voted for Desbuanda! :D ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 73 An enchanting slice of cinematic R&B from an 18 year old London schoolgirl who sounds like a cross between Michael Jackson, Justin Bieber and The Weeknd to these ears :o! This one was love on first listen.

  6. Ah Bray :( A bit gutted you ended your streak with this one. A wonderfully unique entry that really hit me on my second listen. Perhaps the nature of it meant it needed time to grow on others too (that and it was an unfortunate semi for it obviously). -_-
  7. Nice one Lindsey! Particularly great that you can participate fully in your brother's contest! Really liking the song by the way. ^_^
  8. OMG the sandwich metaphor being used correctly  (as opposed to naming the sandwich after the bread :arrr:) Funny you say that as I was aware you didn't pick your entry this month but thought it sounded very much like something you'd send anyway. I guess that makes the fact my 12 pointer DNQ'd a bit easier to take! ^_^
  9. Great that Kelly of all people (very narrowly) avoided the injustice of being the first act to miss out on an official #1 despite selling the most albums. Not going to be pleased when that happens. :drama: Symmetry! :o  On a related note, Beyoncé's album peaks in the UK so far are matching Kelly's US equivalent (1-3-2-1-2). Here's to a relative flop peak for Bey's next one to keep that potential symmetry going. :mansoncheer: (No idea how/why I noticed that ) Bearing in mind the 163k 'Stronger' sold was in late October 2011 off the back of a top 10 hit, I don't think it's too surprising. Still a sizable drop off though (and that's with added streaming of course).
  10. Desbuanda's votes: Semi 1 +12 | Fljótavík : Verre - 'Blu' +10 | Ajanaeda : Cash+David - 'Bones' +08 | Q +07 | Q +06 | Q +05 | Q +04 | Q +03 | Ethanola : DJ Paypal - bEbay +02 | Q +01 | TRIANGLEDONIA : Snakehips - 'Days With You (feat. Sinead Harnett)' Semi 2 +12 | Q +10 | Q +08 | Isconia : Billy Who - 'My Heart Will Mend' +07 | Q +06 | Q +05 | Persephonia : Sogand - 'The Lom' +04 | Q +03 | Q +02 | Syndare : Zak Abel - 'Lonely' +01 | Q Don't think I've ever had a top two DNQ before . Particularly shocked Fljótavík did so poorly as it sounded like quite an obvious hit to me. :/ Other than that, not bad overall and particularly chuffed with a few of the shock qualifiers in Semi 2. :D
  11. Ooh, will be interesting to see how this turns out. 'Slow Jamz' is an easy first pick for me but looking through that singles discography, I can tell it's gonna get tough fast.
  12. Only seeing this now :o. Davidson has always stood out to me as a passionate contributor to the R&B/Urban forum so he's an excellent mod choice. Congrats!
  13. Really great to see her just about scrape a third US #1 album, with only 1,000 'units' (:drama:) in the difference! Her seventh top 3 album there. :o In other news, I've listened to most of the tracks on this and while they're generally unremarkable, I find myself coming back to 'Invincible', 'Good Goes The Bye' and 'Take You High'. 'Run Run Run' is also very good and has a decent amount of hit potential if handled properly.
  14. Yeah I don't think Jessie and Sam are majorly similar, other than them quickly blowing up with their debut albums – she was just the first example that came to mind! I would argue that he's had/is having overexposure in the showbiz realm though, especially with all the media coverage of his recent award success. Also, he generally doesn't seem shy about attending high-profile events, giving interviews about his love life, mingling with fellow popstars etc. Of course greed/profit is always the driving force but it's not like labels haven't exercised restraint as part of long-term strategy in the past (an obvious example being Adele's label allowing her decline a range of opportunities, including not recording any further music videos, after '21' was released). I really think Sam's team was wise with the original plan to wind down the campaign if they see him as a viable future investment. He's a new act who emerged to prominence in a huge cloud of hype, as opposed to Rihanna who gradually built her name over a few album campaigns, and to me his continued appeal is very vulnerable to potential missteps like this one.
  15. Agreed with the comments about the complete mismatch of the Comic Relief cause/brand and everything about this song. Perhaps it's semi-wishful thinking but I have a feeling this could be damaging for Sam in the long-run, in a similar way to how Jessie J's overexposure came to a tipping point when she signed up for The Voice (and then of course the decline was accelerated when she shaved her head live on TV and kindly saved the world in the process). I thought it was quite an inspired move by the label when it was announced that 'Like I Can' would be the final single from the album, as by the end of that single's run, the campaign and Sam must surely have outperformed everyone's expectations and there were no more accolades to collect and no reason to continue except for greed. He strikes me as the kind of (hugely successful) act whereby one wrong move could quite easily burst the bubble and I think continuing the era beyond awards season is getting into risky territory, especially now as they're pushing yet another sure-to-be-ubiquitous ballad of his complete with a big name feature as part of such a widely celebrated event like Comic Relief. Sam fatigue is surely imminent. :o

  17. Amazing thread/blast from the past! I absolutely adored this show. I remember one Christmas I got a series for my PSP and used to watch it on the sly in bed and on car journeys all the time. Weird timing actually because I only randomly remembered and revisited that offensive translator sketch a couple of days ago when talking to Riser about an SNL skit, having forgotton about it for years :o. Definitely among my all-time favourites, especially because of her brief look of contentment each time before she moves on to the next one! I always loved the one with the office workers whose guessing games never went to plan because it reminded me of my younger brother and I when we were kids ^_^. Something about her character was very true to certain people in life. 'Fergus, Imogen, Chloe and I are having a gooseberry and cinnamon yoghurt' woman was also amazing. I loved the one where she took a wrong turn and found herself in Tottenham! 'You are never gonna BELIEEEEVE what happened to MAAAAAY' woman was another highlight. Lauren was also a fave obviously but I could take or leave Nan (oops). She had her moments but her shtick got a bit stale for me after a while. -_- Of the ones not mentioned yet/potentially underrated ones, I found the 'Think about it, Whittaker' smug detective particularly hilarious along with the clueless shopping centre information point...worker . Oh, and the woman who unintentionally insults everyone she meets at parties and then awkwardly backtracks . Gah I loved this show and always thought Catherine had awesome comic timing. Really want to watch an episode again now. :D

  19. Hi Harry, I don't believe we've crossed paths before! Cheers for commenting. ^_^ Ahhh, 'Beautiful Criminal' is awesome . That and 'Tried Love' are pretty much on a par for me. So yeah, you should definitely check out the latter! Thanks! :D Hi Mango! :D 'Perfect Ruin' has really hit me recently but yeah it wouldn't be up there with 'Walk' or 'Wrong Or Right', which were both in my top 10 favourite songs from last year. Still a gorgeous track and I really hope it brings attention to the upcoming album. Re: 'FourFiveSeconds', yup it's definitely a big climb but this is a monthly chart so that'd explain it :P. I'm far too lazy to do a weekly one! Also, it debuted as low as #49 because it only came out at the end of January so it wasn't exactly representative of the songs I listened to over the course of the month. :D Yeah I'm very surprised 'Pray To God' has been so slow to take off (although it's currently #27 on iTunes so things are looking up). I don't really buy the idea that HAIM would be that off-putting for Capital etc. so I'm thinking/hoping it'll catch on properly very soon. 'Seasons' is great - perhaps my favourite single from this campaign. Olly's unstoppable really. Great to see him continually churn out the hits and attain such prolonged success. Yep, 'Not On Drugs' should've been huge -_-. Outstanding chorus. It gave me chills the first time I heard it! Yeah, 'Jealous' took me by surprise! I've heard a few of Nick's other tracks and they're largely very good too. He definitely deserves some UK success. Gahhhhh, 'Out of the Woods'   (and yes, I agree of course). Thanks! With you all the way there, James. T'would be criminal. :arrr:

  21. :hi: Jade! Interested to check out your chart because I've always found I tend to agree with ~95% of your opinions/analyses of songs in the Chart Show thread :o. It's actually sometimes a bit uncanny because you post almost exactly what I'm about to say! :drama: Haven't heard your #1 yet but I liked the singles from Noel's last album so I'll definitely listen soon. Yay for that high 'King' debut :cheer:. A wonderfully uplifting track :music:. Looking forward to what I'd imagine will be near-unanimous positivity in the thread on Sunday when it's announced as #1, which is relatively rare! ^_^ Didn't think 'Tide: The Paradox Effect' would be here! I assume Bray introduced it to you on plug.dj or something?! That was a real standout for me in BJSC . (Btw I know you've been harassed incessantly in the past but you should defo join BJSC - I was also reluctant but it's very enjoyable! :D) I like/love the rest of your chart, with the notable exception of 'The Nights' :puke2:. Is that an ironic inclusion of sorts or....?! Also, that's a largely amazing retro top 10. 'Ready For Your Love', 'Crying For No Reason', 'Rather Be', 'Riptide' and 'Can't Remember To Forget You' are some of my favourite tracks from last year/all made my EOY top 100 (and 'Drunk In Love' is particularly good too obvs).
  22. Sent! Going atmospheric, androgynous R&B this time and I'm very excited about this one.
  23. Haha, I'm glad you appreciated it! And I really don't think there's any need to employ me going by the two things I've bolded above - it looks like you're very much getting the hang of it! :D
  24. ^ That sounds amazing! Think I'm gonna make it my mission to see him live now ^_^. Love every track of his I've heard and yep, his voice is outstanding. Can't wait for the album!
