  2. Off-topic but I would say leaving home for London at 16 and not having a roof over his head for years/sleeping on the underground/asking those who turn up to his gigs if anyone has a couch for the night is relatively uncommon! Assuming all of that is true of course, but I know someone who knew him from his early teens and verified most of it. I think his struggle was more noteworthy than the norm for a successful artist.
  3. Well this sentence was enlightening to say the least. She was in Danity Kane?! She got to release a second solo album?! :o This was a BONUS TRACK?!?!?! http://fun.resplace.net/Emoticons/Dead/DeadBanana.gif I need to check this girl out. 'Tide' may just overtake 'Give Me You' as my favourite Persephonian entry since I joined!

The relatively few times I've watched food shows, it's always been because I've been drawn in by the personality of the chef/presenter - I'd have zero interest in watching them solely for the recipes (maybe with the exception of Heston because his experimental stuff can be really fascinating). I've always liked Jamie Oliver as his passion for what he does always comes across very naturally. Gordon Ramsay's a real character, love him or hate him, so I completely see why he's so popular on TV and I've enjoyed his shows in the past. I don't know if she's well-known in the UK but I can't bear watching Rachel Allen, even though the stuff she does seems quite manageable/practical, due to her horribly affected 'posh' accent (and also she's just generally quite dull). All that said, I don't think I've ever been arsed to actually follow a recipe from a TV show, despite my best intentions while watching!
  5. I was going to say I couldn't be happier 'King' looks like it'll be huge as I adore it and haven't stopped playing it since it surfaced...but a part of me is disappointed it's not 'Take Shelter' getting this attention as that's still their best work by quite a margin -_-. Regardless, everything I've heard from them is of a remarkably high quality so I'm glad they're having their well-deserved breakthrough.
  6. I'm alright thanks Callum. :D Good that you're a fan! Also great to see you posting a bit more these days by the way. ^_^

71 (Let's pretend I didn't forget to update this last month :drama:) For the first contest of the year, Desbuanda entered Flor's upbeat, infectious, utterly irresistible bop 'Heart' which proved, well...resistible and failed to qualify despite unanimous predictions to the contrary. :nocheer: n75AWLaEzgA Moving swiftly on~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 72 Our inadvertent tribute to noted amaze poster Rabbit Heart/Froot continues (after 'Heart' :o by Flor...INA :o) with our newest entry of 'TV' (he's a UK TV Mod :o) by Eves (Eve -> apple -> fruit -> FROOT :o) The Behavior (he's generally quite WELL-BEHAVED http://fun.resplace.net/Emoticons/Dead/DeadBanana.gifhttp://fun.resplace.net/Emoticons/Dead/DeadBanana.gifhttp://fun.resplace.net/Emoticons/Dead/DeadBanana.gif). Anyway, we're suckers for a moody, cinematic, lyrically deep, soaring pop song laden with moments and 'TV' ticks every box ('box' geddit :/). b3wazfdqkkw
  8. Great to see 'TV' qualified after all – thanks for the votes! Had a family bereavement last week and the funeral was yesterday so was spending time back home with family over the last few days and never got around to listening properly/voting. It looks like my likely big pointers flopped hard so I doubt my votes would have made much of a difference :(. Can't believe Syndare finished as low as 31st and I also feel Sandénia, N DNTN and Unovia were underappreciated in Semi 2. Very happy with some of the qualifiers though so it's definitely not all bad! Trifoski's top 10 run though </3 (and it being broken with such a great song too).
  9. Underwhelmed on first listen, having read the extremely positive reaction here beforehand! I don't know why, but I was expecting the song to be very melodic and it's definitely lacking in that regard for me - it all feels a little clunky. Also, as a rule I'm not a fan of choruses consisting of spelt out words. :drama: That said, his voice sounds great and it's quite a bold debut single musically so I definitely think he has a lot of potential to make a convincing popstar. I was a fan of him on the show and, aside from Tamara, he clearly had the most charisma/star power in his series so I'd like to see him do well.
  10. I actually think they got the single choices spot on. 'Tough Love' is the clear highlight of the album for me and definitely succeeded in reigniting my interest in her (and although it only performed modestly on the charts, it seems to generally be highly regarded based on what I've read). 'Say You Love Me' is the obvious commercial choice and did its job for the album release. I still don't quite get the love for 'Champagne Kisses'. Sounds like a pleasant but unremarkable album track to these ears. The video is unexpectedly wonderful though and has helped it grow on me somewhat.
  11. Blown away! That is quite the impactful song+video combination! It's crazy how intriguing and...cool she remains, for want of a better word, considering she's been so successful. Still top of her artistic game in every respect.

It seems Katy Perry's obliteration of the concept of a 'dark horse' runs deep! :o
  13. Hate to be a pedant but would appreciate if the spelling of my act was changed to 'Behavior' please and thank you! :D Great to see TOKiMONSTA entered! She's been a long running potential for me too (but with a different track).
  14. ^ Great news! She better get a proper interview as well cos her personality would probably sell the album better than the song cos she's absolutely hilarious!
  15. :hi: Joseph Haven't heard your #1 yet and have been meaning to - might do that now actually. :magic: That's quite the video effect (presumably) for 'Only Human'! As you're probably well aware, I adore the song and I thought the video did a very nice job of showcasing it. Her videos have been fairly strong this era actually :o. Really hoping the song will be a hit anyway - I'd love to hear it on the chart show. Great to see 'King' and 'The Heart Wants What It Wants' making nice climbs too. Gah, Kelly didn't last long! I agree though, it never properly clicked with me and what did wore off really quickly. She's capable of much better but it'd be great to see her get a hit out of it anyway just for the sake of it! I see she's on Graham Norton in a couple of weeks so that bodes well!

Hi Seven, You went to the effort of embedding your entire top 10 so I thought it'd be rude not to check them out, having only heard two (Years & Years and Marina obvs) previously! Didn't really like 'Mr Noah' at first which was a bit soul-destroying :/ but decided to give it another listen and it grew hugely, thankfully! I actually ended up liking the rest of them to varying degrees based on one listen but 'The Love You're Given', 'Delirious' and Clarence Clarity were the major standouts! Made some very nice discoveries so cheers for that!
  17. Yeah, I'm delighted that it seems 'King' could actually contend for #1! Had been hoping for low top 10 at best until recently. :D I agree about 'Pray To God' being among Calvin's best - he's had some amazing songs in the past but this one isn't wearing off for me at all! Re: 'Gust Of Wind', I've always loved it but revisited it after I did my EOY chart and have been playing it a lot since. ^_^ Yeah I really like 'Love Me Like You Do' but something's stopping me loving it right now. I'm sure its ubiquity over the next while will help it grow that bit more! I hadn't thought about 'Walk' potentially getting a re-release but I'd definitely be down! Still can't believe it got to #1 in Germany. :o Ha yeah I agree about 'Only Human' not being likely to save the era but I'd love Cheryl to get a top 20 hit out of it. Her best ever track for me. Thanks for all the comments, Mango! 'Irresistible' is a very apt word for it - I haven't gone a day without playing it since I first heard it I think! Yep, one of my most anticipated albums of the year and I'm intrigued to see if there'll be anything on it much different to what we've heard so far. I really love 'Perfect Ruin', having not been overly keen on it based off the live version I heard before. He really can't do any wrong for me right now! Thanks Seven! :D I hope so re: 'King' being a potential #1. I've noticed that song seems to have near-universal Buzzjack praise, interestingly! Yeah I'll definitely be checking out the album based off what I've heard so far. :D I agree that they're hard to compare, especially given the contexts behind them. Both extremely effective and interesting pop songs though so I hope G.R.L. will be around for another while and continue producing the goods. I've become mildly obsessed with 'Wonderland' of late and it was actually you who prompted me to listen to it originally about a month ago so cheers for that! So catchy. Thank you Joseph!
  18. I think and hope Ireland will defend the title. :D My family and I have tickets for the Scotland v Ireland match in Murrayfield and I can't wait!

Hold me. (The 'Perfect Ruin' song+video combo is breathtaking. 'Wrong Or Right' and 'Walk' are the cream of the crop so I'm glad they'll feature, though 'Pray For Love' is also very strong. The cover's crap but that's not important. Excitement at fever pitch.)
  20. The song's really growing on me and I love the video. Rihanna absolutely oozes star quality and is incredibly captivating onscreen. Great that she's back! :D
  21. Re: 'Christine'; just checked and it's on iTunes anyway! This was such an obvious standout in the last contest for me (and your 12 pointer as well I believe) and it's only grown since. I still haven't listened to '1989' in full - just random tracks, but I love most of what I've heard so really need to get around to that! And indeed, 'Out of the Woods' is the 'Leave Your Lover' to my HausofKubrick. :drama: Yeah I heard 'Hold My Hand' but wasn't really feeling it on first listen unfortunately. Cheers James! Yes! My hopes are sky high for 'Pray To God' and I'd love it to give HAIM a real breakthrough and some momentum for their second album. Yeah 'Wonderland' is stupidly good to me to have not made the album but perhaps it was quite strategic to put some standouts on the deluxe so as to encourage people to buy it instead? Again, I still haven't heard the album so can't really say! Interesting you love 'New Romantics' so much - I've seen that one be mentioned quite a bit. 'You & I (Forever)' really clicked when I saw the video a few weeks ago (). I still can't get into 'Champagne Kisses' at all but it seems to be almost universally praised as single material so I guess it's a good decision. -_- Ah that's a shame re: new Marina. 'Immortal' is definitely my least favourite of the four tracks but overall I find the standard incredibly high so I'm excited for the album. Yeah I love Rihanna's voice on it. To be honest, I still haven't exactly formed a proper opinion on the track yet. I know I really like it but it was so unexpected and I'm not sure where it all fits in with her new stuff obviously but I'm enjoying it as of now anyway. Thanks! Really appreciate that, Jake, and the feeling's definitely mutual! I love reading your take on music etc. as you're always remarkably perceptive. Most of the time I find myself agreeing with a lot of your thoughts but differing on some points so it's been great to try tease those out with you. And you're right, I should and have been more so recently actually, a lot of which has been brought to my attention by yourself in the Indie forum so thanks for that! Just listening to it again and it's completely winning me over now having liked it before so I'd be interested to hear your next verdict. :D 'I Lived' has been bopping around the #50-#60 region for the last few months actually so has been unlucky not to have made the cut :drama:. Have always been a fan of OneRepublic despite not being a 42 year old stay-at-home mother of three who hates her life and I regret nothing. :sun: Thanks for commenting!

I've just started watching this and it's great as expected. Talk to you in 2018 when I've eventually caught up with ya'll. :cheer:
  23. Yeah but I think it's simply a case of Kelly and her fans being on completely different wavelengths. Who's to say she should listen to her fans' opinions on her artwork? Unfortunately for them it appears she's winding down as a popstar and, as such, isn't overly concerned with maintaining success and prominence through clever marketing campaigns, promotion etc. She seems to be doing things as she wants and at her own pace and has worked hard enough in the past and made enough sacrifices to be in a position now to do just that. As difficult as it may be for some, I think people need to lower their expectations somewhat and be grateful she's releasing another album in any capacity (provided the music itself delivers, of course).
  24. I can't believe these comments have survived four hours without a Joseph rebuttal! :o
  25. I remember really liking Leon on the show and thinking his winner's single was pretty decent! He clearly wasn't a 'star' but he was a likeable guy with a great voice so I've always felt a bit sorry for him as he never had anything resembling success. Not exactly sure what happened there but I imagine he was screwed over somewhat with the focus on Leona at the time and the musical direction chosen for him. Birdy gets far too much disdain on here! Her voice is beautiful and both her albums have great moments. Conor Maynard's always seemed majorly overhyped to me (and so cringeworthy in performances/videos :arrr:) but he did deliver with a couple of singles.
