I don’t know if I agree with this. It’s chart friendly, yes. But there’s some beautiful flourishes on the production and her vocals sound warmer and more emotive than I think I’ve heard before from her.

 

(I know I’m a Stan but I certainly wouldn’t have said anything like this about Girls)

#2 with just over 30k (picked the 31-40 bracket). It's up against Take That so there's really not much chance of a #1 for Rita.

I'm not denying it, I think it's common knowledge that it's a huge factor in how things do. I'm just saying the song actually has to be popular too, the way you worded it was as if to say the song would not be doing well at all without HHUK.

Girls was like 3rd on Summer Hits which gets just as many streams as Hot Hits in the peak of Summer and wasn’t THAT much lower on Hot Hits. The higher position has helped of course but it’s showing signs of being a smash either way.

My friend who works there said it's the 3rd episode of filming but they can swap and change the performances for any date. I had a feeling they'd go up against Rita (not like she's competition but still). Do we know when the show starts?

I agree and hope we get a single that's just them next. But I do think it's a problem across the board not just with Little Mix, it seems like all mainstream pop acts these days have 50% (or more) of their songs having features.

Yeah, as long as they have SOME sort of promo for the first week, be it a video or a performance somewhere - and they get instant Hot Hits and a good new music Friday placing on Spotify as well as instant R1 and Capital support (which I think it will) it could be an easy #1 for them.

Thank god Rita was moved up like 45 places on Hot Hits. Spotify was the only platform she was lagging slightly behind on but this should sort her out.

Rita said on Capital there’s a Marshmello collab on the album. Presumably that’s the TBC?

I like the artwork! I don’t love it but I’m glad the childish logo is gone and they’re going for something a bit more mature, an image re-do. As they need to move away from the Disneyfied image.

They should release a song that’s similar vibe to Side to Side!

I think more than anything the feature thing represents the charts / mainstream music in 2018. The chart is in general much more feature heavy than ever before!

I do wish it didn’t have Nicki on it too but a shame long as it’s a bop and a hit I’m here for it.

I wouldn't say it's desperate, it seems like common practice for most songs to be discounted within their first few weeks on the chart these days.

I think the high praise and people getting caught up in the hype set the bar too high. Firstly, from a feminist point of view I found the story difficult to connect with, Bradley Cooper was absolutely incredible, but his character I found very difficult to relate or sympathize with in the way I think the film wanted the audience to. I appreciated that the film highlighted the issues with substance abuse but he was relentlessly horrible to Ally throughout, mostly rooted in jealousy, bitterness or snobbery moreso than his addictions, so when films (often directed by men) romanticize these kinds of destructive relationships or abuse cycles it always confuses me a bit. Lots of people found this romantic and I respect their opinion if that’s how they felt, but the whole ‘Love and stand by your man whatever the outcome’ wasn’t clicking for me.

 

Gaga was good for the most part and I think, when she's singing in the film she can really emote and on a powerful level that many singers only wish they could - it's clearly where she feels most at home - the final scene she did brilliantly for example. But her still acting still needs a lot of work in my opinion, where I feel like you can see her thinking about her every move. The plot itself was cute but I felt like it was something I've seen quite a few times before, Walk The Line and What's Love Got to Do With it for example effected me more overall and they have the same story. The music is mostly great, although the underlying message that pop music is inferior annoyed me a bit. Shallow is actually one of my least favourites on the soundtrack and I loved the one she performed on SNL and the snippets of other songs on the album I can’t wait to hear in full.

Really glad they had a re-do with Marina after relalising Disconect didn’t really work.

They've pretty much confirmed she's on the album. They made a playlist with all the features and also tweeted all the collabs one by one. I hope it's a single. Could be a #1 for Rita!
