In reaching No.1, The Kooks now hold the accolade of the lowest entry to make No.1 record - previously held my Maximo Park's "I Want You To Stay" which entered at No.14, and peaked at No.1 four weeks later. The Kooks entered five places lower at No.19, but impressively reach the summit a week quicker than Maximo Park, taking just four weeks in total! Moving up two places is The Zutons amazingly catchy "Why Won't You Give Me Your Love?". could it reach the summit next Sunday? Gnarls Barkley dropped a place at No.3 despite improving in strength over the week, and such was the strength of the top five this week, Editors equal Goldfrapp's record of the largest drop from No.1 by moving to No.4. The highest new entry comes from Fall Out Boy, who enter at No.5. This already beats the peak of their first single "Sugar, We're Goin' Down" by one place in it's first chart week! Elsewhere Orson won't die from the charts and make just a modest drop of one place down to No.7. The only song to have spent longer in the top ten now is the all conquering Arctic Monkeys! Another entry in an amazingly strong chart sees Infernal enter at No.9, and a rare feat achieved by Franz Ferdinand. They have two singles in the top ten this week, with both "The Fallen" and the other A-Side "L.Wells" making the top ten simultaneously! Next week is set to be the hardest week to predict in the charts short history thus far. If with The Kooks and The Zutons looking very strong in the chart currently and high new entries from Fall Out Boy and Infernal wasn't enough, there are also set to be SIX, yes SIX very strong new entries next week. With one of the Arctic Monkeys tracks from the EP is set to chart next week "The View From The Afternoon", Chicane featuring Tom Jones with the fantastic dance song "Stoned In Love", Dirty Pretty Things, Eminem, The Raconteurs (with Jack White no less!) and the fantastic return of Snow Patrol all set to chart highly, expect fireworks! The Strokes 'Heart In A Cage' drops to No.2 after spending just a solitary week at the summit, and is replaced by the Editors song 'All Sparks', which becomes the first song to jump straight to No.1 from outside the top three. Indeed their position of No.6 last week proved to be underrated as they claimed the top spot fairly easily this week. Orson manage to keep an amazing stranglehold on the chart, spending a sixth week inside the top three - a feat that is only equalled by Arctic Monkeys 'When The Sun Goes Down', which went on to make eight straight weeks. Elsewhere in the top ten and there are three new entries, and two very noticeable climbers. Gnarls Barkley became the first ever artist to debut at No.1 on downloads only at the weekend, and makes a strong debut in my chart - entering at No.4. Just one place further back is a top tune from Franz Ferdinand. 'The Fallen' is one of the highlights from their recent album and makes a sizable dent in the chart at No.5 this week. However this song is proof that overplaying of songs can result in a lower placing - had it been released two or three weeks ago it would have debuted at a certain No.1 - though it may still climb there in due course. Up twelve places at No.7 (and matching the peak of their previous single), The Kooks and 'Naive' make a large leap into contention for a future No.1, while 80's favourites Depeche Mode set the second of three records this week. They become the largest single week climber into the top ten - a record previously held by Meck who had a leap of 12 places. This is equalled by Kooks this week incidentally but is blasted completely by Depeche Mode - who rise an amazing 19 places to sit at No.9. Finally, finishing off the top ten is a new entry from The Zutons. Their new release 'Why Won't You Give Me Your Love?' is already much better than their previous material, and they could be set for a big year if the album is half as good as this track. Finally, for the last of the three records set this week we have to go right down to No.49 on the chart - where MVP sit proud with their track 'Bounce Shake Move Stop'. This holds the record for the biggest ever single week climb, stealing the record set by the Black Eyed Peas just three weeks ago. Jumping from No.82 to No.49 this week - it's an astonishing 33 place leap! Predictions for next week: The fight for next weeks No.1 looks like a four way fight only. Editors, The Strokes, Gnarls Barkley and Franz Ferdinand all have a very good chance of hitting the top spot next week, and The Kooks and Depeche Mode can't be discounted either. On the new entry front, there are many strong releases, but nothing that threatens to trouble top spot - not next week anyway. Expect high entries from Coldplay, Hard-Fi, Gorillaz, Protocol - and a track I couldn't include this week as i've yet to hear it - Franz Ferdinand's double A-Side 'Lindsey Wells'. So, another week passes by and another new No.1! The Strokes "Heart In A Cage" goes three places better than predecessor "Juicebox" by jumping up two places from No.3 to hit the top spot. It is the fourth single in just twelve weeks to have made that exact jump to No.1, following in the footsteps of Arctic Monkeys, Madonna and last week's chart champ Maximo Park. Speaking of Maximo Park, they make the opposite movement down the chart - back to No.3, while Orson spend an amazing fifth week inside the top two, and a fourth week at No.2! Kelly Clarkson and the Black Eyed Peas make noticeable climbs up the chart, moving six and nine places respectively. Also, there is a record equalling three top ten new entries! The highest of these comes from The Streets return song "When You Wasn't Famous". At No.6 is Editors follow up to "Munich" titled "All Sparks", while there is another comeback king in at No.8, Morrissey enters the chart with "You Have Killed Me". Also two points to talk about this week, one is the Arctic Monkeys "When The Sun Goes Down" has sadly, finally left the top ten after 11 weeks, and the original No.1 of The Hague Chart - Hard-Fi's "Cash Machine" has left the top fifty altogether, after 11 weeks on. Expect it to figure in the End Of Year rundown somewhere near the top ten, however. Predictions for next week: The Strokes were comfortable No.1 holders this week, and it could hold again next week - despite a plethora of strong competiton. Kelly Clarkson, Black Eyed Peas and The Automatic made nice climbs this week - they could well all be in the top five next week! Orson can't be discounted, as neither can the three top ten entries from this week. On the new entry front, there are two (or three?) good top ten shouts, with the re-release of The Subways fantastic song "Rock And Roll Queen", and Franz Ferdinand release the best song off their latest album, with the double A-Side "The Fallen/Lindsey Wells" - both are eligible for my chart next week! Maximo Park's "I Want You To Stay" debuted five weeks ago, but has steadily climbed through the ranks to reach No.1! It now holds the records for the longest climb to No.1, and is the first song to debut outside the top five to make No.1 - indeed it debuted at No.14! Meanwhile Orson continue their fantastic run of form, with a fourth week inside the top two, and a third week at that number. Elsewhere in the chart, new entries were slightly more prominent this week than recently, as The Strokes "Heart In A Cage" beats the No.4 peak of "Juicebox" in it's very first week! Further down there are entries for Pink (No.15), Embrace (No.22), Yeah Yeah Yeah's (No.27) and The Rifles (No.32). I must also mention another record set this week - for the highest climber in a single week! The Black Eyed Peas beach this landmark this week after "Pump It" jumped upto No.16 from No.40 last week - an amazing 24 place leap! Predictions for next week: Can Maximo Park's historic climb to the top be stabilised next week by staying at No.1? There is a lot more competition next week, with Orson still looking strong, The Strokes entering high and could also climb. On the new entry front, there are four or five top notch releases which could all threaten! Depeche Mode and The Kooks could all debut inside the top twenty, while the return of Morrissey and The Streets could enter very high, along with Editors' follow up to the long lasting "Munich". Orson climb to No.1 after two weeks languishing behind the Queen Of Pop - Madonna, who drops from her two-week No.1 reign down to No.4. Delays and amazingly, Maximo Park are the weeks biggest surprises, climbing to No.2 and No.3 respectively - while The Modern rebounds from losing six places last week, by climbing back up seven spots to No.6! Further down the top ten Stellastarr* and Sugababes swap positions respectively to No.8 and No.10. In one of the strongest weeks so far this year, the first new entry is a lowly No.12 for James Blunt's "Wisemen", a song that would easily make the top ten on most other weeks! Other top twenty debuts come from Kelly Clarkson, Joey Negro, and new band The Automatic with their tune "Raoul". Also note, the chart was extended to a top fifty this week! This is anticipation of an eventual top 75, and then maybe top 100 later in the year - leaving much more room for songs - long runners and new entries alike. Predictions for next week: Orson look strong at the top, but can the amazing climbs of The Modern, Delays or even Maximo Park hit the top?
