Where does he go from here? This was somewhat inevitable given the big gap between era's. The real damage seems to have been done between SM and Wonder IMO.
  2. I guess his moments just over which is a shame because he's one of my favourite pop stars of the last few years. It would be nice to see When You're Gone take off, it's chart run in its first two weeks is virtually identical to Treat You Better which went on to be a huge hit but When You're Gone just seems to be slipping by without much notice. I guess it just didn't connect or that people want a different sound now.
  3. I'd be very surprised if it managed to sneak back into the Top 40 at this rate, even Wonder and Monster managed a few weeks in there.
  4. It's worrying that Shawn can't get a hit with this when it's very much his usual formula. Would have been a Top 10 hit with ease in 2016-2019.

Only the song-writer is awarded for Original Song so the singer isn't an Oscar winner unless they wrote it. Though if you were to count people who have sung Oscar winning songs into the above list you could add Danny Williams, Donna Summer, Stevie Wonder, Lionel Richie, Berlin, Madonna, Celine Dion, Mariah Carey, Whitney Houston and Annie Lennox.

Oscar nominees who have scored UK Top Ten Hits include the above plus: Mary J. Blige Bradley Cooper Bing Crosby Bobby Darin Doris Day Jamie Foxx Lady Gaga Jennifer Hudson Grace Kelly Peggy Lee Sophia Loren Bette Midler Liza Minnelli Eddie Murphy Debbie Reynolds Diana Ross Telly Savalas Hailee Steinfeld Topol John Travolta Kate Winslet
  7. The snippet of this he posted on Instagram sounded AMAZING.
  8. #57! A colossal flop 😔
  9. This doesn't even sound finished. A miss and probably another flop at this rate.

Chorus is fantastic, one of the best of the year which is good as the verses are pretty bad. As always with her, this could end up being the biggest song in the world for a few months or fizzle away pretty quickly.
  11. One of my very first favourite artists I had; every single a banger (if I ignore post-2005 material). I'd say my favourite is Be With You, a gorgeous song.

Seems like he's teasing new music in his latest Instagram post

Girls Aloud would definitely be strong contenders for a "act worst represented by their number ones" thread.

J-Lo is another one who springs to mind. Whilst On The Floor was an obviously massive hit, pretty well remembered and has sold nearly three times as many copies as her next biggest single, I'd still bet money on the #3 peaking 'Jenny From The Block' as being the first song the average person in the street would think of if you asked them to name a Jennifer Lopez song. Maroon 5's Payphone is their only #1 and pretty well remembered - but surely pales in comparison to Moves Like Jagger in terms of sales and memorability? I'd say that She Will Be Loved is probably better remembered as well. And Linkin Park. What I've Done is their highest charted single and certainly remembered but can't touch the impact of their lower peaking singles In The End and Numb.

Kesha? Three number one's yet I doubt any can match the #4 peaking Tik Tok in terms of cultural impact and memorability. Avril Lavigne also popped into my head; though I feel like Girlfriend and Complicated are about equally remembered, I actually think her most well remembered track overall is the #8 peaking Sk8er Boi? Paramore as well. I would say Misery Business is way more well remembered than Ignorance or Still Into You, both if which peaked higher. Could also make similar arguments for Fall Out Boy who made it to #2 with This Ain't a Scene but have a bunch more lower peaking singles that are better remembered.

2006 seems to have a running theme of this. Mary J. Blige also made it to #2 that year alongside U2 for her highest peaking single with their version of 'One'. Whereas her signature hit, Family Affair from 2001, could only muster #8. I'd also argue her previous release 'Be Without You' is more well remembered yet that could only make #32.

A-ha's #1 single being the (still brilliant) The Sun Always Shines on TV and not Take On Me is my big one for this.
  18. Really pleased this has been chosen as a single. Best song on the album. I've no real hate or love for Shawnmila myself but I hope they realize that as far as the GP is concerned the combination is kinda toxic for both of them, particularly Shawn, and leave her out of this.
  19. It's not a particularly great song but it is a bit of a shame to see Olivia and Sabrina getting Top 40 hits out of this whilst he gets one week at #98. Still, I suppose he's been painted as the "villain" of the piece so there's probably not as much of the wider interest for him. I've seen some very nasty things being said about him.
  20. I had no idea the poor guy was seriously ill in hospital a few weeks ago and didn't get to promote Lie Lie Lie because of it!

One thing I would bet money on: Shawn's next lead single will be about the most pop radio friendly song you can imagine.

It's kinda of like they decided to take everything that made the 'Shawn Mendes' era a little wonky and magnify it by ten. It's nice to see Monster coming back to the Top 40 but that only has another 3 weeks before it hits ACR and then it'll be gone.....so, with touring unlikely in the near future is the era just done? They need a third single!

Ouch. There's really nothing else to say at this point, it's a flop. At least in the UK.

Oh damn.....it's not even Top 100 on mids?!

Seeing Taylor at midweek number one with 2.4k made me even madder about this
