  1. Yeah, it's one of those things. Sometimes a group or artist of the time can release a Christmas single and get away with it and sometimes it doesn't take off. Never heard the GA tracks... I reckon they could make it work! :cheer:
  2. Wow, I'd forgotten that one!! The sugas original line-up!
  3. I know Dan...I swoon every time I see Kate!!
  4. Don't even go down the "Nizlopi" path! Painful!!!
  5. Yeah, Elton and the guys were having fun with that track and it shows. Always makes any Crimbo party! :yahoo:
  6. I think it reached No.2 so wasn't too bad! Take it you're not a fan of Nizlopi's JCB Song? <_<
  7. What do Peeps think of Christmas singles that never reached their potential? 2 of my fave's are: Kate Bush "December Will Be Magic Again" which only made No.29 in 1980 and Elton John "Step Into Christmas" which only managed No.24 in 1974. I think both tracks should have easily made Top 10. Both Elton and Kate were at their peak at their respective times! What do you think?..You can catch the vids on Youtube. :yahoo:
  8. I was dancing last night...No.13!!!! fantastic and his sales were 9278! :yahoo:
  9. Someone after my own heart. It's amazing that almost everyone I know assumes Wannabe entered at 1. I have to get the stat book out to prove them wrong!!!! It's so frustrating when someone challenges you with their chart "knowledge". A friend of my brothers argued blind that The Pogues' "Fairytale.... was no.1 in '87. We had to get printouts of the chart to convince him he was talking c**p. I think the Petshop Boys might have had something to say about that!!
  10. Hi Mikey, I was a late starter with music. I was 11 when I "discovered" the charts. I almost immediately started writing them up every week from January 1981 until around 1994. By this time the Top 40 book came out so I didn't feel the need to write them up anymore. I guess the charts just fascinate me..especially unusual chart runs (Snow Patrols' "Chasing Cars" at the moment is a matter of interest). I remember in '91 with Bryan Adams and every Sunday thinking surely THIS week it's gonna drop!!! It was great when it hit 16 weeks at No.1. I was sure 2 Unlimited was gonna topple it!! In 1984 I had my first 30 place climb when Macca and the Frogs climbed 39-9. I remember thinking at the time this songs either dropped out or climbed 30 places and I was sure it had vacated the 40..but no. I like to buy my fave artists singles to help them up the chart. It's just a matter of giving support.

Hi lonesome cowboy. Since the beginning of the re-issues Elvis has been selling around 9000 copies each week. His chart position seems to be determined by how many sales the other songs are selling in the 17 to 11 positions. On a couple of occasions Elvis charted at 14 but was only around 250 copies short of hitting no.11. It's unlikely that any of the remaining releases will hit the Top 10 but I'm fairly confident we can get a clean sweep of Top 20's! I think it's the same 9000 peeps who are buying every week!! :cheer:
  12. Well my heart says yes but head sadly says unlikely. I'll be happy if we can stay Top 15!
  13. I have to go for Kylie. She's gone for something a bit different for HER. The Spicies have stuck to a safe formula. Have to admit I DO like both songs though!
  14. Nice bit of trivia Carole. Really chuffed we're on the way up again with a Top 15!!! I'd forgotten that it only peaked at 17 back in '64 which makes this new peak a bit of an anomaly. (suspect spelling!)
  15. Yeah, mine too!
  16. A couple of months ago while watching the music channels I noticed that every 5 mins or so, along the bottom of the screen in very small print a message which said not all selections will be played!!! So you were basically paying for a £1.50 raffle!!
  17. It's their lowest charting single since Live Forever charted at 10 in 1994 and brings to an end a run of 18 consecutive Top 5 hits. Still, pretty good for a download only release!
  18. Yeah Carole, It was a wee bit disappointing. Hopefully we can squeeeeze the final re-issues into the Top 20! :cheer:
  19. Spice Girls
  20. It depends what day of the week the chart came out on March 20th 1969! 1 chart says it was "Where Do You Go To My Lovely" :puke2: Another says it was "I Heard It Through The Grapevine" :yahoo: Can anyone help?
  21. Thanks Carole....doesn't get much better than that!!!

I know Carole, I can't wait until Monday for "If I Can Dream" Only bought my copy of "Wear My Ring..." this morning! No sales figures in as yet but surely we'll get an easy Top 15 come sunday!!

Chart runs to No.1 were: Patience: 4-1-1-1-1 Shine: 30-17-11-10-1-1 I'd wait for Life: 17-50

Neither Patience or Shine actually entered at No.1 But Patience sold 61978 in its first week at 1 while Shine sold 42000 in its first week at 1. :) I'd wait for life peaked at 17. Sorry I can't be of more help.
  25. Wow Big Hunk... made No.12! Elvis sold around the same this week (8894) as last week so it seems his position depends on the sales of the songs around 16-11. I you remember about 3 weeks ago he only missed No.11 by around 300 copies. Sales are so close at these positions every week. Looking forward to the next few weeks. If I Can Dream's out next week!!!! :cheer: Catcha later Me :)
