Def Jam is doing an amazing job though, but their hands are tied by Island. They might have a good reason to not have sent it to top40, maybe because it didn't take of after the TV performances. Although I think if it was sent to top40 before the tv performance I think it would have sold more. Anyway, someone on DS said you only have one chance with top40 and maybe they just didn't go through with it. It's clear Defjam is more into Leona than Island but who knows what Island is thinking. They had a budget, they screw up. Island started strong, but I think they expected lots of sales from FUMF and since that backfired they screwed up the budget. There's promo coming up first 2 weeks of December in UK so we'll see what they have in store. They're not gonna push hard in UK and US anymore though. You have one chance to do it right, but it didn't happen so best way is to go back in the studio.

Who says she doesn't want to invest in her albums? She has always been making music, she had 2 albums before XF so I'm pretty sure with the money she has she can continue doing what she wants. It wasn't me who brought her up. I also didn't compare her career. I said she already flopped with her second album and Leona is on her fifth. No way she should just bring out EP's while she clearly has the power/money and talent to bring out an album. Is it not commercial enough? So what? Atleast it's an album produced by a hitmaker for Beyonce and others. Not someone who she found on the street to produce songs a la Renegade trash. You're comparing Leona's fifth album, 10 years into her career, with Alexandra's second album, 3 years and final year of her career. Calling her a flop really was in its place when you wanna drag Leona's fifth era and the only arguments you have is a 5 year old second album. All while Echo outsold her career. Are we then? No one was. However, selling 12k and 15k in UK/US with no hit single, 3 years after her last studio album. Doesn't seem too bad for me, especially with streaming taking over and sales declining. I am not sprouting dumb lies, you must have misinterpret my argument. The poster conluded Leona had one big ballad to sell the album, yet it sold millions, while Alexandra had "hit after hit" but didn't even reach a million sales, didn't set a foot in US. So yes, it didn't translate in sales while "only one big ballad" sold millions :kink:

Alexandra was in a way worse state than Leona, probably because of her ghetto attitude and her we-already-have-a-beyonce-nothing-new kinda talent. Coming from only 800,000 debut to 5,000 with Irrelevephant as hit is BAD. Leona didn't have a hit this era yet outsold Flop on Hold in only one week in the UK with her FIFTH album. Anyway, no point in comparing second to fifth album because Echo outsold her whole career. Don't think Leona will be joining miss flop on stage anytime soon. Leona can atleast invest in a decent produced album that interests labels such as Defjam and Island. The Hallelujah-not-her-song hitmaker, and only source of income, on the other hand could only afford her own bedroom and a mic to record the garbage that is Renegade.

Why are you so worried about her embarrassing her? Let her do whatever she wants to do. 10 years into her career and she doesn't care what a mcdonald reject has to say. Alexandra is the definition of flop. Average success with debut album coming from a show watched by millions to only sell 5k of her second album. Now she's singing someone else's songs on stage for the standard UK wage. :kink:

The thing is, and I see people still fail to see this, this album is personal to Leona. Not an album that was meant to be commercial or get her back on top. DefJam has been in the music industry for so long and know how this album would do. Both labels are supporting her decision by releasing this album. Why would she need help? It's her first album that she made on her own, first time she wrote all of the songs (except one) with the same producer. It's trial and error. How else is she gonna learn? Leona also never said she left Syco because she wanted to create a personal album on her own. No, she didn't like that she was pushed in a corner and had to release material she didn't want to (cover album). She was recording the album with no label, so why would she spend on writers if she has the ability to create songs on her own? I'm sure Leona would definitely be happy to work with different producers and songwriters, that's the whole thing she loves doing. Too bad releasing an album nowadays has to be commercial in the eyes of the fans or it's considered a flop.
