  1. Like I Never Loved You At All or Don't Say Goodbye. But I'll go with whatever the majority decides.
  2. Here's your answer :) http://www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/new...-vegas-11779123
  3. I tried to find some articles, but, aside from the occasion mention of this rumour (and its denial), there's not much one can find on the internet. Apparently, it's only in 2013 that Barry Gibb denied the rumour, during an interview with The Guardian - and it's a bit baffling to hear him say he'd never heard the song ???!!! Who on earth hasn't heard BFG by now (apart from those who were born yesterday)?! As funny as we find the story, there are (or at least were back in 2009-2010) some people who do believe it. There's a poster on the DS forum who believes that BFG is very much in the style of the Bee Gees and that the rumour might be true. We have a saying here, but I think it loses something in the translation: "A fool may throw into a well a stone which a hundred wise men cannot pull out." - useless to say that the fool here is media (and very likely Robbie, as nobody else had more interest in harming Gary at the time than him).
  4. Funny they didn't try to pin Never Forget on the Bee Gees as well :D It did come after BFG and it was the same quality, after all! If he hadn't written good songs up to BFG, I'd have understood their skepticism, but, considering he had already written EC, AMLS, Pray, they were simply fishing for trouble.
  5. When they released These Days, I was a bit baffled, as it seemed a bit chaotic to me. Now, I must admit I enjoy hearing it a lot, more than some of their classics. I don't know what it is about it, but it's joyful and full of hope. Aww, Dylan...I absolutely love Forever Love (and I want it to be my wedding song, although I know many find it syrupy), but I adore LMG as well, it's just one of those songs that get stuck in your head, plus it has a story to tell.
  6. I did know about this rumour and I still find it hilarious. I have no idea how it could even occur to someone that an artist would write a big song - any ear could have realized it was gonna be big - and then give it to someone else and not take any credit for it. But then again, some people's minds are a complete mystery to me
  7. Let Me Go - 4 votes These Days - 2 votes Hopefully more people will vote so we have a better representation of the general perception.
  8. I can't say I'd want to hear TT sing LMG, it's just too personal and it would feel wrong for somebody else to interfere in it.
  9. That must be why I have no actual recollection of the tweet, if he deleted it. You're right, it's a bit a blow under the belt to bring up DI over such a trivial matter as a meet and greet. I do hope he had the decency to apologize to Gary afterwards. Gary was in no way obligated to accept a meeting he hadn't set up. I agree that DI didn't sit well in that medley or in an arena, but I'm still glad we have that tiny bit of it being sung live. I hope, someday, people learn to appreciate that song properly. It's one of those songs that come only once in a lifetime - thankfully, considering what birthed it! In some ways, it reminds me of Eric Clapton's Tears in Heaven.
  10. I chose LMG over TD, because, for me, it was instant love with the track, whereas, with TD, it took me a while till it grew on me. I had been so nervous about Gary's first solo release in so many years and, when I heard LMG, I calmed down, cause it sounded so mature and catchy at the same time. And then, it has its own story, that's more poignant than These Days's. It's a funny thing with some TT fans, from what I noticed. Some of them are not particularly bothered that Gary has most leads in TT and they have no problems enjoying those songs, whereas, as soon as he goes solo, they dislike whatever he does.
  11. I'm not expecting Gary to release DI as a single, just maybe doing an official video for it, so that more people are aware of its existence. I wouldn't want it to be a single anyway, cause it would be heartbreaking to see one of the most beautiful songs ever flop. But it does deserve some form of recognition, something more than just an inclusion on an album. Roycey seems to still be friends with Gary. These are some of his most recent tweets: RoyceyVerified account ‏@officialroycey Aug 5 Thank you for being just you Gary. Thank you for being a true friend. You are hugged buddy. Seriously hugged. ❤ Roycey ‏@officialroycey Jul 22 This! And "That song" I wish he'd release! It's getting a tattoo on me anyway next to #AmazingGrace. It's epic and resonates with me on every level. He's talking here about DI. Even last year he was still talking about DI. I remember vaguely about TT fans getting upset with Roycey over some comments, but I have no idea what exactly he said about Gary. He seems to be over it.
  12. Roycey seems to be a strong supporter of DI and I think he's still trying to convince Gary to do something more with it. I hope he succeeds.
  13. So, Let Me Go has 3 votes so far and These Days 1 vote. But I'm expecting more people to choose TD, too. I'd just like to know if the choice is influenced by people's feelings towards Gary. I, for one, when it comes to certain Mark songs, can't truly say whether I dislike the song for itself or for the fact that Mark is singing it and I imagine it's the same with those who don't particularly like Gary.
  14. Though, to be fair to him, musically, they weren't too bad, considering he was experimenting and following orders/directions quite a lot at the time; lyrically, though, some of them are monuments of ridiculousness, meant to provide endless amusement for us nowadays  I guess that period was needed, in order for him to learn and grow and nobody can blame him for writing the way he did - he was just a young boy, coming from a perfectly normal family, with no major issues - what was he gonna write about at that age and with his lack of life experience?! Not to mention that Nigel and the label were asking him to write most of those "songs". It's surprising he had it in him to write such gems as AMLS, BFG, EC, Pray, NF, NE, HBTT and to convince the label to allow them on albums, since they were targeting a more mature audience. Had Gary never been in TT, I believe he'd have gone down the MOR road much earlier in his career - and I wouldn't have minded it, but I know not all fans feel the same way.
  15. I knew this was gonna be a hard one :) For me, though, DI is the supreme manifesto of a true songwriter and I like the fact that it's anything but a commercial song.
  16. You know the truly scary part? Most people in Romania know about Babe and actually like it, while many may not have even heard of Patience. However, no matter how dreadful Babe and many of their 90s songs are, they're still hilarious, as they make me wonder "What on earth was going on through Gary's head when he was writing them?!" I don't know how people can accuse him of not being funny after having heard some of those songs
  17. Considering both are songs that Gary has dedicated at some point to Poppy, which one do you think is better? Dying Inside is probably Gary's most critically acclaimed song, while RTW is considered TT's best single to date (by many).
  18. I know it's not quite a fair comparison, but it should be an interesting one. I wasn't sure which TT single to choose, so I opted for their latest no 1, so they would be pretty much from around the same era.
  19. Does anyone else feel that Get Ready For It was a missed opportunity? The video already has over 4 million views on yt - I know it's not much by general standards, but it's quite a lot for one of their secondary singles (and it wasn't even a single). And all the comments are really positive. Maybe the timing was bad? Should they have waited to promote it for after the movie's success?
  20. Kath, it's getting scary, stop it! :P Despite me disliking Babe the most, I still find myself lately humming it a lot - if there's something I like about that song, those are the harmonies and BVs. Yet, during concerts, fans seem to go mad on that song, for some reason. I wonder if it's the song or the fact that it's Mark singing it. Even during one of their 90s tour (I don't remember which one, definitely not the '95 one), Babe followed AMLS and it got way a bigger reaction from the crowd. Even to this day, I'm not certain whether it's because Mark was cute back then or they genuinely loved the song more.
  21. Where's a thumbs up emoticon when you need one?!!! I find it really weird that HDIYL garnered more votes than other singles. There may have been better choices for singles at the time, but it's still a lovely song. I guess I'm in a minority too. Just to clarify: it's not me who voted EC. I voted for Babe and I already explained why. I'm in agreement with all of you that we need revamped versions of EC and most singles. I guess that's why I love Lara Fabian so much - each tour, she offers fans new arrangements of her hits - some work, some not so much, but it shows an willingness to shake things up a bit, instead of always doing the same thing. I liked it when Gary sang that different version of RTW on Concert for care or on BBC Radio 2 - the one with the orchestra. I loved it when they did a tango version of It Only Takes A Minute or the ballad version of CIBM. Unfortunately, these re-arrangements are so scarce you tend to forget they ever happened :(
  22. I guess those who chose HDIYL are not Bee Gees fans either :P
  23. Interesting fact about BFG: it already has over 17 million views on yt, which is quite an achievement for a single that was released so long ago. It has more views than most of their singles released in the yt age.
  24. I like EC in any shape or form, except when it's sung by Robbie. When I said I'd have chosen EC as one of their weakest singles, I was referring strictly to the form in which it was released as a single. Had it been sung then as it's being sung now, it would have never been on my black list :) I especially love the swing version - just like I like the swing version of Sure. But, when I go watch the official video and I hear Robbie's horrible vocals, I wonder how on earth did it occur to them to release that as a single. While I would have also preferred to have the beautiful NE or HBTT as a single, I can't say I dislike HDIYL and I believe it's the best cover of that song to this date - I would go as far as to say that most people believe it's one of those rare cases where the cover beats the original. Besides, the video is so hilarious I could never hold a grudge against the song
  25. This is a tough one. I'm with dylan on this one :) Sure is not exactly a favorite, but I don't get particularly annoyed by it - the videos, especially, make up in humour for what the songs lacks in maturity. I voted Babe, but I was inclined to choose Everything Changes as well. Normally, I like the song (EC), but, if we refer to the single as it was released, I can't stand it - Robbie's awful vocals compete with the 3 notes vocal range of Babe...it's hard to choose :P I'm not too fond of Shine either - again, in the form it was released in!
