New TV spot from the Super Bowl: M9VqmPX8m2k Can't say I'm massively excited for this to be honest and I usually love Jennifer Lawrence... It's giving me Atomic Blonde vibes which I kinda disliked :(

9Szts88zY4o Can't get loads from just a 45 second clip but it looks decent to me. A bit cautious of more Star Wars after not loving The Last Jedi...
  3. NooW_RbfdWI Super Bowl trailer. Loved seeing more of the horror elements here as promised from J.A. Bayona (that thumbnail especially!!), hope we get to see more of that in the final film.

CItEtnp3nPY Was hoping I'd be able to skip this after the bad reviews but I had to watch it after Denzel snatched the nomination. The film itself was alright, nothing special at all and filled a bit too much with law jargon for me to fully grasp what was going on but at least it had a few good scenes and started to pick up the pace a bit after Denzel went on the run. I'm so shocked Denzel got in for this performance though aside from the fact he's clearly beloved by the Academy, he may have acted a little bit socially awkward but I found the performance to be very nothingy and something that he could do in his sleep. It makes it even more perplexing seeing as the film didn't exactly get amazing reviews either. Tom Hanks (or even James Franco) would have been much more deserving nominees in my opinion...

HEVonh8bjC0 I think this looks really interesting based on the trailer. Not released until August 24th 2018 here in the UK though :(
  7. 50. The Fate of the Furious I found Furious 7 quite a dull film so wasn't particularly excited for this but it massively exceeded my expectations with how bonkers it was. Where else would you see a baby carrier incorporated into a Jason Statham fight scene? Charlize Theron was such a good villain too and you totally believed how icy and wicked she was, I do hope she returns for future sequels. Helen Mirren was a complete scene stealer too so I'd love to see her brought back - her cameo had me cackling. Minus points for Vin Diesel being annoying and loving himself a bit too much but I can't deny I had a great time watching this. 51. Patti Cake$ Perhaps a little bit odd and all-over-the-place at times but Patti Cake$ is certainly an enjoyable film and I was feeling incredibly uplifted by the end. It has a few cliches like the protagonist being bottled by the end of the first verse but by the final chorus, the crowd are going absolutely wild for it but overall it was certainly a good film. I was hoping this would be a breakout role for Danielle Macdonald so I do hope we get to hear more from her in the future. The soundtrack to this is really good, Patti is a pretty bangin' rapper and I go back and listen to some of the songs quite often - Tuff Love especially  52. Life Basically a huge rip-off of the Alien movies but done so much better than any Alien movie I've seen  The monster was terrifying in parts and you always had this sense of dread that he was looming around any corner when watching them film. I like that they went THERE with the character deaths too with just how brutal they were, the coughing blood and coolant drowning scenes were almost difficult to watch at times. A shame the marketing was poor for this because I feel like so many people missed out in a thrilling little film :( 53. Home Again This was another one of those B-list comedies that isn't all that hilarious but impossible not to love because of how charismatic the actors are. Reese Witherspoon knows how to work a rom-com and she was brilliant here, so likeable and the only character to make me laugh out loud in the film when she was drunk and started calling out the lady who employed her  She deserves better material to work with really (something as good as Legally Blonde or Election which can show off her comedic talent a bit more) but I still had a lovely time watching this. Jon Rudnitsky was a surprising discovery for me as he ended up being my favourite character, a very charming and sweet character (and cute af :heehee:) 54. Power Rangers I was only really a casual Power Rangers fan so wasn't as excited for this as some people seemed to be here on BuzzJack. However, I ended up enjoying it a lot and would love for there to be a sequel too. There were some really great gags that made me laugh out loud and all the characters were very likeable (aside from Zack who I found a bit arrogant). Seeing the Zords in action was super exciting and even the hand-to-hand fight choreography was very entertaining.
  8. It's actually pretty good. I've not seen the original ones so I can't compare but I would recommend the new one for a fun 2 hours!! Thanks Grant! I was so disappointed with the Last Jedi, let me know what you think when you see it! Thanks Dalek!
  9. Yet to see Roman Israel but might try and catch it tomorrow. This would be my ranking for the rest: 1. Chalamet (should be walking away with this, everything was so perfectly portrayed and the final scene of the film alone should be getting him the Oscar) 2. Oldman (feels a bit more like an impression but at least it was very transformative and believable) 3. Day-Lewis (very good but not ready to win another Oscar already and I've just ranked Oldman ahead for the physical transformation of his performance) 4. Kaluuya (loved the film lots but don't see what was so special about this performance - he surely wouldn't have made it if it was a more competitive year) I'd take Kaluuya out of my personal top five and complete it with Tom Hanks for The Post and James Franco for The Disaster Artist.
  10. BEST ACTOR The nominees are: Daniel Day Lewis "Phantom Thread" (as Reynolds Woodcock) Denzel Washington "Roman J. Israel, Esq." (as Roman J. Israel) Gary Oldman "Darkest Hour" (as Winston Churchill) Daniel Kaluuya "Get Out" (as Chris Washington) Timothée Chalamet "Call Me By Your Name" (as Elio Perlman) Who do you think will win? Who would you like to win? How many of these have you seen so far? What actors are you sad about missing the cut? Discuss anything you like!! Here are the latest odds too (with PaddyPower) just to see how things are likely to pan out: Gary Oldman - Darkest Hour 1/20 Timothee Chalamet - Call me by your name 14/1 Daniel Kaluuya - Get Out 14/1 Daniel Day-Lewis - Phanton Thread 20/1 Denzel Washington - Roman Israel, Esq. 25/1 Other nominees at major awards shows: Golden Globes - Drama Gary Oldman – Darkest Hour as Winston Churchill Timothée Chalamet – Call Me by Your Name as Elio Perlman Daniel Day-Lewis – Phantom Thread as Reynolds Woodcock Tom Hanks – The Post as Ben Bradlee Denzel Washington – Roman J. Israel, Esq. as Roman J. Israel Golden Globes - Comedy/Musical James Franco – The Disaster Artist as Tommy Wiseau Steve Carell – Battle of the Sexes as Bobby Riggs Ansel Elgort – Baby Driver as Baby / Miles Hugh Jackman – The Greatest Showman as P. T. Barnum Daniel Kaluuya – Get Out as Chris Washington BAFTA Jamie Bell – Film Stars Don't Die in Liverpool as Peter Turner Timothée Chalamet – Call Me by Your Name as Elio Perlman Daniel Day-Lewis – Phantom Thread as Reynolds Woodcock Daniel Kaluuya – Get Out as Chris Washington Gary Oldman – Darkest Hour as Winston Churchill SAG Awards Gary Oldman – Darkest Hour as Winston Churchill Timothée Chalamet – Call Me by Your Name as Elio Perlman James Franco – The Disaster Artist as Tommy Wiseau Daniel Kaluuya – Get Out as Chris Washington Denzel Washington – Roman J. I was dreading watching this so bad because I thought the trailer made it looked so dull but it was actually rather good and I'd say I prefer it to both Darkest Hour and Dunkirk from the Best Picture line-up this year (at least it was daring which can't be said for DH at all). The marketing was almost misleading in a way because I had no idea how funny it was going to be, the audience were belly laughing at some points. My jaw also hit the floor at the ending, certainly not a twist that I was predicting. In terms of acting, Manville stood out to me most for being the queen of all side-eye and resting bitch face but the two leads were very good too. I'm not the biggest Day-Lewis fan but this was a really interesting role and his outbursts were hilarious. Vicky Krieps felt very realistic too and her line delivery sounded very natural, I'm sure she would have been in contention for an Oscar nomination if she were a slightly bigger name The score was beautiful too and massively elevated the film in some scenes. I'd be rooting for this if The Shape of Water's music wasn't so gorgeous too.

This was around the time Beyonce was really solidifying herself as the best in the business with smash after smash during her Sasha Fierce era and it's not hard to see why when the album was jam packed with bop after bop. I always loved the video to this too although it obviously has nothing on Single Ladies in that regard. 01. Crazy in Love Average - 9.06 Lovers (11 - SamJudd, Harry, Lew, Jay, Liamk97, Mack) Haters (0 - Nick F1) ViwtNLUqkMY There really could be no other winner, it's the song that made her a super star and remains her most iconic single to date. Try stepping into any nightclub on a weekend and it'll be impossible not to hear Crazy in Love come on and the crowd go wild. It is the ultimate party banger and everyone knows the word so it always is one of the best songs of the night. Personally, it wouldn't even be near my personal Bey top 10 but I can't deny that it's a bop and it does feel like the right choice to have as #1.

One is for 2018 movies and one is for movies you saw in 2018. Basically this thread is for your list of cinema trips in one year and the other is to tell us your thoughts on the classic you just caught on TV or the cheesy romcom you bought from CEX and spent the night on your own sipping wine watching :P

This was absolutely brilliant, really hoping it can upset Three Billboards at the Oscars and take home Best Picture on the night. I'm still yet to see Phantom Thread and Lady Bird but this is by far my favourite from the realistic winning contenders (as much as I love it, CMBYN stands no chance at this point ). So many good performance especially. I thought Frances McDormand was great but this is the role of a lifetime for Sally Hawkins and she should be running away with it - they HAVE to use the scene where she's getting Richard Jenkins to read what she's signing aloud as her Oscars clip because she was spectacular there. Every little facial expression she did spoke a thousand words and it's crazy to think how polished her performance was in a language that she doesn't even speak. Octavia Spencer was hilarious in this too and so perfectly cast as a mute woman's sidekick, you warm to her here so quickly and my heart was beating out of my chest when Michael Shannon arrived at her house. I've never seen much of Richard Jenkins before either but I think he'd actually be my choice to win the supporting actor category, one of the most likeable characters in a film I've seen in a long-time and I was heartbroken to see how lonely he was at times. Aside from the acting I thought it was a really beautiful story. Props to Del Torro for making a fish-man and human relationship seem rather beautiful after you get over the initial shock. You could totally believe and comprehend how much he meant to Elisa because she had finally someone similar to her. The ending was super thrilling too and Michael Shannon was utterly terrifying. His delivery of 'you are a God' was delivered perfectly too, especially because the fish-man looked towered above him, you could see the moment of realisation in his final moments that he had been wrong to mistreat the fish-man. I loved the ambiguity of the ending too, Also, can this win cinematography please for the shots of them underwater at the end alone - SO mesmerising *.* I do think we were given some hints that Elisa herself was partly supernatural and not entirely human. The fact she was picked up as an orphan by the water, has suspiciously gill-shaped scars and seems to have an affinity with water (pleasuring herself in the bath/control over the water on the bus window) etc. definitely made me think that she wasn't just merely a mute woman.
  17. 55. Star Wars: The Last Jedi One of the biggest disappointments of the year for me easily. Star Wars is one of my favourite franchises ever and both Rogue One and The Force Awakens were EOY top 10 films in previous years for me (6th and 4th respectively). This just didn't feel like a Star Wars film whatsoever for me and I thought the tone was really off. So much of the humour was forced and there were just far too many silly scenes like Leia flying through space like Superman or Luke milking an alien and drinking the milk - it was all just a bit odd and had me cringing at times. There were some brilliant scenes too like Laura Dern's sacrifice and the throne room fight but it was the first SW film I've ever been bored in and they could have done with cutting out Finn and his storyline altogether. Hopefully episode 9 is brilliant and makes this worth watching again in the future. 56. The Mummy After so many poor reviews and unexciting trailers, I was quite worried that I really wouldn't enjoy this but it was surprisingly fun. Plenty of jump scares which kept things entertaining and I really liked the physicality of the Mummy herself from Sofia Boutella. Quite excited to see where this monsters movie universe goes next, I'd like to see more of Russell Crowe especially. Tom Cruise was decent too but a few of his jokes fell flat or were awkwardly timed. Oops at his completely irrelevant female sidekick too, characters like that just look so outdated in the same year as feminist icon characters like Wonder Woman... 57. Cars 3 I'm the only person I know in real life that loves the Cars franchise so I was really hyped for this. Sure, it's not as emotional or as moving as films like Coco, Inside Out or Finding Nemo but the idea of talking cars is one that entertains me and I still had a great time watching this even as an adult. The humour was pretty spot on and I didn't cringe at it at all like I did at some other kids films this year. Cruz Ramirez was a really good addition to the cast too and I found her to be an incredibly likeable character. A shame about the diminishing box office returns for this compared to the last instalment  58. Rough Night This was certainly no Girls Trip but the chemistry between the girls here made it a fun little watch even if a lot of the jokes fell flat. The comedic material here was nowhere near as good as the aforementioned Girls Trip and I didn't laugh out loads but it still made me chuckle a few times and all the girls were so likeable. I've found Kate McKinnon very irritating in pretty much everything I've seen her in before but she was the highlight here for sure and her accent was hilarious. Zoe Kravitz was really personable here too and I warmed to her character very quickly after she seemed a bit cold at first. Let's be real though, the best scene was Colton Haynes in a thong *.* 59. The Meyerowitz Stories There were discussions about this being a potential awards contender this year and I must say that it's a shame that didn't happen because the performances here were really strong and it's easily the best work that all of Sandler, Stiller and Hoffman have done in years. We don't often get to see Sandler and Stiller do more serious work very often nowadays and this film just showcased how good they can be if they want to be. Hoffman's comedic timing was hilarious and he had me laughing out loud numerous times. I'm not sure if anyone else on here has seen this as it's just me who posted in the thread so I would really recommend this if you're looking for something to watch on Netflix!
  18. Let me know what you think if you do get around to seeing them. Mother is certainly unlike any other films I've seen before :heehee: Thanks for commenting Harry! I thought he was good in Black Mass too! I'm sure he'll get his awards recognition one day :( Thanks for commenting Grant!

Currently seen 6/9 of these. Very excited to see The Shape of Water and Lady Bird but absolutely dreading Phantom Thread, the trailer just looks so dull to me. Here's how I'd rank them: 1. Call Me By Your Name 2. Get Out 3. Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri 4. The Post 5. Darkest Hour 6. Dunkirk I think I'm predicting a Shape of Water win now after how beloved it was by the Academy and the fact that Three Billboards got a director snub. It's definitely between these two anyway in my opinion.

Agree with Sam in the other thread that this was very 8/10 and I was also a little bored at times. Saying that, there were loads of really intense scenes that did have me gripped and although it's not the most daringly directed film, I did really like the use of circling shots from Spielberg. Yay at Meryl snatching the Oscar nomination because it was one of her best roles in quite a few years in my opinion, it's nice to see her do more understated performances from time to time. Hanks was very charismatic too but I guess he'll just be snubbed forevermore by the looks of things  I liked the cheeky wink-at-the-audience style ending too, so here for the US government lies movie universe. (Shout out to the score from John Williams too, I've been listening to it a fair bit since seeing the film. He definitely should have been nominated for this over Star Wars which was nothing new or special). Also, I've never been more turned on in my life than during the newspaper printing press scenes  I could've watched that for hours...

I'd agree with Jack that I appreciated how amusing it was (I certainly wasn't expecting it to have as many laughs as it did, it almost reminded me of Stephen Frears films at times with the sense of humour) but I really lost interest towards the end. I'm not a history buff at all so I was never going to love this but by the third act, I was really struggling to stay entertained. The Underground scene was just silly too, the movie makes it seem like the reason why Churchill didn't surrender to Hitler is because he talked to some random people on a train. It was also a really long scene and threw of the pacing entirely and the film never recovered after that for me. Gary Oldman had a brilliant transformation here (a lot of that is down to the make-up, of course, but that's not to take away from his performance which was very impressive too. I never once felt like I was watching Gary Oldman on-screen.) but it definitely feels like he's going to win the Oscar for the MOST acting rather than the BEST acting. Timmy Chalamet really should be walking away with that but Oldman's overdue narrative is just too strong
  22. Saw the trailer again for this today and I'm kind of shocked at how little excitement I have for this. The first one is one of my favourite movies ever and I could watch A-list actors and actresses having shitloads of fun singing ABBA songs all day but I just don't get why they've done a flashback sequel, who wants that? Lily James is literally the only famous name in the cast from the flashback scenes and it looks like there's very little Meryl too from the first trailer. Getting very worried this is going to be a bit rubbish
  23. 60. Sing I had a fun time watching this the first time at the cinema but I've seen it a few times since then because of my sister and have gone off it a little bit. It is another one of those animated films that is just a little too childish still and although it did make me laugh a few times, there just wasn't enough here to enjoy as an adult. The characters were fun though (I especially enjoyed the pig duet) and the songs were pretty catchy (although a few more original songs would've been nice) and I'd still watch it again in the future - I just appreciate/prefer the more adult themes covered by the likes of Pixar in their animated films. 61. Loving I missed this at the cinemas during awards season and was pretty gutted because I do like to see all the acting nominees from each year if possible. I wasn't massively anticipating it because the trailer seemed pretty dull to me so I was surprised at how much I ended up liking it. There were certainly slow moments and times where I was a little bored but to counter that, there were some especially touching scenes that really stood out and stuck with me. Ruth Negga was excellent and it's not hard to see why she became an Oscar nominee last year even if I'm still a bit bitter about the Amy Adams snub. Joel Edgerton was just as good too so I'm shocked that he wasn't more competitive for an Oscar nomination last year either. 62. Baby Driver Probably upsetting a few more people here by not having this really high too but I would probably single it out as THE most overrated film of 2017. I may not have loved the films but I was in awe at the technical aspects of films like Dunkirk and Blade Runner whereas I just didn't really see anything special with this at all. It was just a generic action movie synced to a bit of music at times. I had quite a good time watching this to be fair because the action as fairly fun and Ansel was such a charismatic lead. I usually find both him and Lily James pretty boring in films but they both shined lots here, the best roles yet for both of them. 63. Flatliners I wasn't quite sure what to expect from this as I haven't seen the first film but I was expecting more of a sci-fi film from the trailer rather than the horror film that it basically was. I always say horror isn't my thing as I'm easily spooked but I liked this because it didn't give me nightmares for weeks on end but still had me jumping out of my skin in places. For example, scenes like Ellen Page's death were so unnerving and eerie and the film did a really good job of making it so tense in the final act. James Norton was the stand out for me in the cast though (plus, he is insanely hot ) 64. Going in Style This is basically the definition of a B-list comedy, it's totally forgettable and not all that funny but it's impossible to not enjoy. The three leads had all good chemistry and it was just a laugh to see three Oscar winners muck about a bit now they're older and have so much fun in a film like this. Alan Arkin is probably my least favourite actor of the three (I've seen less of his films anyway) but he was my highlight of this and definitely had the best material here to work with.
  24. You'll definitely have a laugh during it either way so I would recommend it. I had fun and I'm not even remotely a history buff... Thanks for commenting Grant! Oops, you can't please everyone :heehee: I'm a blockbuster fan at heart so it'll probably only get worse from here :heehee: Cheers for the comment Pavel ! I can appreciate objectively that those two are very well made films and are technically very impressive but there was just not loads of entertainment value in either of those for me and I don't exactly enjoy going to the cinema to sit and be bored (for well over two hours in Blade Runner's case...) My bottom three from the Best Picture line-up last year was Fences, Moonlight and Hell or High Water. None of them were particularly thrilling and I wouldn't watch them again out of choice... Thanks for commenting Chez! :D Even I am the only person I know of that has neither LOVED or HATED it  I liked it a fair bit but a lot of it went over my head to be honest until I did further reading on it :drama: Thanks for commenting Klaus!

pjWz3WDtGPI I absolutely adore both Vikander and McAvoy so I am interested in seeing this depending on how wide the release is in the UK. I can't say the trailer is particularly thrilling though, hopefully the film itself is a bit more exciting :heehee: :drama:
