It just baffles me honestly. If Russia had been allowed to participate in 2022, would they have garnered the same mass support that Israel is unfathomably getting? Of course you would have the odd contrarians who would have supported them but I highly doubt to anywhere near the degree that we’re seeing with Israel. But naturally, to us ‘Western’ countries, Russia is the big bad guy and Israel is our (puppet) friend.

Wouldn’t this create a disproportionate advantage in favour of countries who perform earlier though? Obviously everyone gets the same amount of votes, but you might be inclined to use them on an earlier act that you enjoyed and subsequently not vote for the later acts that were also good
