According to Record Collector, Paddy McAloon and Prefab Sprout's newbie is out soon...which might make up for the non-appearence in the charts of the 'last' Captain album and maybe will turn out like an even weirder Stars if the album continues on from the bizarre sound collages of I trawl the megahurtz ...tho i'm guessing it will probs turn out to be lush country rock rather than wild beast indie jangling...

Tony Christie http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/c/c1/Made_in_Sheffield.jpg Did anybody hear anything from the Tony Christie album featuring songs and production by Richard Hawley....could be an intersting album to listen to - tho obv didnt find too many homes as the over-familure chessiness of amerillio might but loads of people who are not into the works of former Longpigs-Pulp man off...but even tho you dont want to be reminded of that song or the directions to that city...always good to hear Walk Like a Panther (groooooooowl) :yahoo: Richard Hawley - Coles Corner pR-MTZVppkA Tony Christie - Coles Corner Y-xu2ZfdBuE Tony Christie feat. All Seeing I - Walk Like a Panther xeFyD-JYWD0
  4. The Informer - Jools Holland with Ruby Turner Actually unlike some of the people on later's hooternanny..must say that generally the boogie-skanking Jools Holland moments were alright and on some of the songs like black & gold were very welcome indeed - tho it needed to go into Peggy Lee's fever half way through - that would have made it extra special.. oh and a welcome newbie onto the skeds of smooth - which is shocking as it only seems that they've only got 6 records!!! tho thankfully i only hear smooth when me mum gives me a lift so no chance of overplay as of yet for The Informer by Jools Holland and Ruby Turner...which is a great bluesy skanking tune imo!!! eIMEjagkMS8 also here's Suggs & Jools Holland with Oranges & Lemons: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bIkMPoLBzWc (well i suppose Squeeze were somewhere between Crowded House and Madness...tho not to be confused with Mad'House obv  ) Peggy Lee - Fever:

http://www.guardian.co.uk/culture think it was laura barton's colum but you will have to search for it - dont know where it is online...but it should be threre
  6. last night i was playing the best of Richard and Linda Thompson..and i was thinking that this works very well at that time...has the right kinda vibe...also the other night was playing disc 4 of 100 hits reggae with john holt, pluto shervington and greg issac's night nurse on it and was thinking yeah this suits the vibe as well....tho i dont think the first couple of tracks such as shaggy's oh carolina suited that vibe those its a brilliant record...tho not as good as mr boom-bas-tic!!! http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/41oD6Q-RFEL._SL500_AA240_.jpg
  7. so everyone else is useless and there only for the beer?!?!?  the quiz that i sometime goes to - can do the music most cases but no the year - only ten tracks but no good on normally quiz after as normally only there tagging along with bro and his mate and every other team has about 95 billion memebers...tho never actually come last as theres some subjects we can do... also sometimes go to place with mates where they have big money mistery artist round at end...and actually have 'won' that but we werent given the money as we put the lead singler down solo when it was his group...and that £££ would have provided us with a few good nights out...arse!!!!

they did some reunion shows last year and the very best of war album features Spill The Wine and tobacco raod on disc 1 along with 15 other tunes while disc 2 has low rider and 16 other tunes and can be got for about £3!!! - so thats £1.50 per disc...a barguin if you dont wanna obtain it illegally

and i thought it was a peter andre word for a rubbish arvo...!!!
  10. tbh actually not making any snide remarks - just saying that brian should have been the mod of a general music area - not a specialist area i may add - before the messing about by others on the site..as brian's threads are the kinda threads that was in mind when the first request was mentioned probs before brian can onto the scene....and not said with any sarcasm to brian - even tho you may have misread it to be a bitter attack...tho if you wanna hold up past grundges like whatever is it that important...as that what brian91's thread seem to be and as a lot of them could be opened up for a general discussion and not just just a small clique in the retro area (but i guess this may be the point?!?!?)

Did anyone else see Che...i did but dont know if i should give an opinion half way thru...at this mo (and esp since i was thinking about volvos driving vampys for the first half and hour  )
  12. actually i thought it was alright..even tho i would like it too be even more cheesy or like American Pie  - which i could mention for a number of Twilight associated reasons but at this point manly the fact that I knew that both American Pie and From Dusk Till Dawn were on the plus 1 channels at about 12:30am and that i would want to watch one...I went with From Dusk Till Dawn even tho i only saw it on tv about a month ago and it was still a great watch, which i dont believe twilight to be when it gets repeated and repeated on itv2 or film4 (after watching it so like 5 billion times i would totally still watch From Dusk Till Dawn over Twilight again!!!)... also even tho From Dusk Till Dawn is an old film using old fashioned b-movie effects which are very dated in this age...Twilight looks so like it has been made sometime in the 1980s as a girl friendly versh of the lost boys (which is also very cheesy..but enjoyable because its cheesy - and has jack bauer as a vampy in it - enjoyable even with the lost boys bad dated 80s soundtrack which at least elly from la roux will love and cover!!! ) bizarrely during the c4 tx of From Dusk Till Dawn there was an advert for a new range of volvos (as well as some cock who had won a hair transplant from fox fm) which was apt as Twilight was supposed to work also as an advert for the new Volvo C30 implimenting in the brains of all the consummers that the sexy vampy dude drives sexy swedey sporty auto around in the film and so this is the car that their dad have to buy for them...which just seems wrong to me and doesnt adhere to the notion that every romantic film needs some boho type to drive a Volvo 240 DL wagon from 1979 (but this may because you can shoot thru the headrests as well to see people in the back seats) also didnt you think that the evil vampys were so gay!!! http://www.vikingautointernational.com/sw7.jpg

well you gotta be quick - hasnt done that well and so it looks like a lot of the screenings are being cut back next week in many areas to one showing at night...

actually eddie cochran is what instantly came to mind when totp2 played that other gen-x spin off Bob "Derwood" Andrews and his westworld with sonic boom boy from the sony advert at the moment (which maybe ironic as both elvis and westworld were on RCA which will come under sony's total controll now bmg are not involved anymore)...think all these records are probs classed as beatbox rock n roll as there seems to be lots of refs to that terminology (and rockulators?!?!?) and i guess that kinda gives you the vibe thats its a bizarre hip-hop 1950s mash up without saying its hip-hop rock'n'roll which just sounds so wrong...and even a worse idea than billy idols xmas crooning album...tho his cover of William Bell forgot to be your lover might be alright as the original by William Bell is brilliant!!! (like also the carbon/silicon video which looked like the crazy frog tho the song went on a bit too long...)
  15. so not reef then?!?!? actually Sputnik for being like a really old band from the 80s with tights over their heads..actually look less embarrasing and less dumb than some of the big hair normal people who heve turned out looking to me even more dated and ridiculas...and Sputnik is probs an idea that finetuning it for a few more years with different production might have worked in a later time frame as it was so bizarre to start off with (tho obv coming from both punk and that gender bending thing) and when i was watching this on totp2 i thought the vocals were a bit pete burns a like - reminded me as a beatbox rock n roll version of dead or alive...if instead of being back by the people who would write for s club were back by random blokes from big aidio dynamite..so its not surprising that they went to British hitmakers Stock, Aitken and Waterman http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/2/27/BillyIdolFist.jpg

so is it a good album...think Richard Hawley is great..but not too sure about tony
  17. a big fan of all of them?!?!?!
  18. but then again they messed up general music area and until they give one to brian91 why not think why not?!?!?
  19. and is for all the night...or is it just ten records after the piccy quiz for a few beers that will set you up for the main quiz that you never win?!?!?

wasnt my arguement perhaps a bbc four about stiff like ian dury or love in to Joe Strummer of The 101ers...so cant really say as i dont really know who some of these punk acts are like Stiff Little Fingers - if you played me their record blind wouldnt have a clue so cant really say...apart from that one fact that one of Stiff Little Fingers (i think the drummers) also in the alarm?!?!? Paul Weller on the other hand think has been influenced a lot by wilko johnson of dr feelgood - there was a feelgood track on one of the weller faves cd a while back and he mentioned in them there and i guess if you look at roxette (the dr feelgood song not the swedish pop-rockers who max martin maybe using as a template for ever p!nk record at the moment) yeah does kinda remind you of weller in the jam... dont know - listening to the prog show some of the songs were alreight (think caravan who were more folky) but some did bore me as they went on a bit too long and too twidly (also i had come in from drinking several rounds of cider using up the money i didnt spend in the woolies closing down sale - so maybe my mind wasnt in the right place or vibe for prog...maybe i should have had something more chilling or some donking daft clubland scooter album!!! but omg jethro tell were scarey!!! thought it was the cider!!!)...and probs only really appreciated if you could play those instruments...which with some metal may also be a criticism with showboating guitarists.... tho maybe there might be a class thing going on a well why people dont like prog...as mike rutherford sounds posher than the queen (making in turn phil collins sound like the artful dodger - that is dicken's not craiiiiiiiig david's  tho a collins remix of re-re-rewind bo selecta would be funny!!)..and so not very cool and i guess another reason to hate this paul carrack collabing evil man of beard!!! (tho the genesis/peter gabriel song they showed not too bad and not surprising that fish did a cover of that genesis tune i think about a lawnmoawer - i guess it would be easy for him!!! and sound just like the original!!!) as for punk people - got a copy of This Is What You Want... This Is What You Get last year in the sale (on a certain proggy hiippy label called virgin...wow man!) which tbh only had one great song - This is Not a Love Song - on it the rest of it was boring...and as dull as you may think prog is....tho if Mew and Secret Machines can be also classed as prog maybe thats not too bad a genre (tho i Secret Machines offshoot the School of Seven Bells will be man context next to cocteau twins type of vibes - they are great even tho my mum thinks they look like a couple of missing corrs family memebers  ) http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/c/c5/Piltiwyw.jpg

yeah not a big fan of saxophones well i suppose something like an alto-sax used in a jazz way can be kinda cool...but saxs and rock/pop music no way man...thats why loads of 80s music is awful too much sax (not enough sex ?!?! ) esp with rotten aussie bands from 80s pubs...and people off poilce acedmy having a rocking fun kinda time!!!

wow thats a mouthful - think using orchestral-disco is easier which is how the guardian discribe them evertime they are mentioned...and the recent ABC/Heaven 17/Human League Sheffield Sex City Tour got 5 stars in the guardian review and the human leagure were reported to have brought the slide show...tho it didn't mention if a cover of Joy Div's Love Will Tear Us Apart was played in an kinda ambient-dance stylee a la Honeyroot...tho it would have been good if any of the honeyroot albums were played at the concert as essentially ABC/Heaven 17/Human League all share members at points along their way so they are like one big band anyway so the tour is like so obv you wonder why they didnt do it in 1997... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oIzL3_LkKio My fave ABC track is actually Love Conquers All (which might be before EMF- I Believe on that dutch disky compilation i've got but i dont think OMD are next...shame thats looks like a theme developing i think its like Dielsel Park West but i dont know if they are called DPW by anyone?!?!?) for the line - Maybe you're a Montague, maybe you're a Capulet Maybe you don't trust me yet, let me light your cigarette - which is better than any food related comparisons to burning alaskas burning deep in side or caffanated beverages.... tho i think this record was about 1991 or 1992 so maybe they shouldnt have gona a bit more stone roses/happy moneys and ended up sounding like top baggy/indie-dance sensation Nixon with sweet temptation... a band so cool and indie that they never appeared in the charts and so indie that Alexa Chung had to have a relationship with the lead singer... who is also supposed have recorded the best Lexicon-esque ABC song that Martin Fry never recorded when they weren't called Nixon and were hanging out with famous film stars like Cyd Charisse rather than random people from T4. I think the zillionare look might have been big in denmark and have invented the cartoons somewhere along the way...which is cool as the cartoons were great!!! - http://www.lykkemusic.dk/images/upload/cartoons-doodah-witchdoctor-booking.jpg Advertisement: 'Buy your 'Nick Grimshaw Funk Off Panties' Now!!!!
