1991: The Album
i heard this the other day when i was listening to the radio 1 request show - greg james was playing it and his comment was something like 'i was told that this was a big tune from the 90s tho i've never heard it which is like weird as i know most big pop tunes from the 1990s' so i thought something like this 'maybe you dont know it as you've blocked it out your mind as it was so bad (some awful tinny must be recorded for 25p rave tune) omg i tell you i wouldnt want to hear it again!!! (tho i've got a brother who would probs say this is so like the best choon ever...but as he's eejit...obv he's wrong :lol:) btw fyi: bizarrely radio 2 were playing fall out boy at the same time and on xfm any number of 80s synth-rock-goth bands (tho it could've easily have been the newbie from white lies :lol: but it wasnt ) If EMF were like from this year i'm thinking I Believe should be mentioned..this is on one of my cheapo dutchy disky compilation collections and when i listen to this i think it should be recorded with a big powerful preaching to the sky booming soul voice or even beyonce with is good as Ian Dench from EMF is one of Beyonce's writers and I'm just hoping one day when there's an extra song needed for I am Sasha too...I'm also a bit fierce he will go well me and the random norweigns aint got any tunes for you but wait i've so got a brilliant idea... Beyonce needs just to sing over an original backing track as it will still look upto date in r&b turns esp. since most r&b records seem to be a cross between haddaway and cher's believe these days !!! :lol:

3. The Animals
and of House of the Rising Sun??? :lol: just think that's probably the most covered song ever but as it goes way way before records began (of the making a note on paper kind rather than of cd recordings)...people only got data for things like yesterday and if about half of all films made before like 1940 dont exist anymore probs the same for recordings of House of the Rising Sun or whatever it was called (Alan Lomax when he was collecting these folk songs may have it put down as something else, same for Leadbelly and woody guthrie)

Slumdog Millionaire ;;
and also it may be down to director and the fact that they may have continued acting lessons when they are on the show..think someone like isla fisher was just someone pretty who was on an aussie soap and then left that and went overseas to acting school, where she learnt how to act and be so funny which is in keeping for someone who's like mrs borat...

The Changling
yeah is a great film - tho think 'Girl, Interrupted' - both film and perf was better as i think i would watch 'Girl, Interrupted' if it came on tv late one night but if this came on wouldnt want to give time to watch it - as its a film you gotta give time to not the vibe just to brainlessly watch it - not saying 'Girl, Interrupted' is but its my preference...tho probs watch a cheesy clips and beeps show on sky 3 istead of both with all of the beeps vox pop about celeb weddings or something dumb like that...

The Wrestler
No but i've got a brother who was...he might want to come and see with me...looking good really want to see this...even tho never got round to seeing Darren Aronofsky's previous films yet that i've got...those i've put on the first few minutes of the fountain like a million times and then felt the vibe wasnt right
-
Kate Winslet
looks good tho some have given it slightly average reviews for trying to hard to be an academy pleaser too much.. of those films i would recomemd "Little Children" first (never got round to watching quills yet) and then "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind" if you've got the director label dvd to hand to watch after wards...

Frost/Nixon ;;
yeah looking forward to this...will be much better than W.

Prog Rock?
indie-pretension perhaps??? :lol: however think the was a case raized to say that most of the important and great music of punk (exception lydon) was actually done by the pub rock crowd...migtht have been in a documentary associated with all the stiff docs yeah!!! shouldnt this thread now be in another place..such as indie alternative and specialist :lol: :lol: :lol: oh didnt realize that they were both albums by marillion thought you were talking about the other Fugazi in a kind of prod vs hardcore/punk kinda comparision...in record collector (think its v pro-prog as always loads of ads for porcupine tree and that bloke out of japan) there is an interview with the old singler from marillion fish who says that (not surprisingly) genesis selling england by the pound was a big influence on marillion when thay were starting out with him as the lead singer...as he does sound very much like peter gabrielle and i think this is a genesis album when peter gabrielle was on vocals and with fish trying to be gabrielle it is a pity as its not phil collins as someone could have replied with the witty replu that (derek) dick impesonates knob.... as i know how much phil collins is lurved on here :lol: that lavender dilly dilly thing...someone mentioned it on a film i happened to watch the other day - cant remember what it was but i think someone was on the telephone... on BBC Four they are doing a prog season starting on friday i think....this will give you answers as they will be doing a prog britainia show

The Informer - Jools Holland with Ruby Turner
Another great Specialist music Forum thread!!! Actually unlike some of the people on later's hooternanny..must say that generally the boogie-skanking Jools Holland moments were alright and on some of the songs like black & gold were very welcome indeed - tho it needed to go into Peggy Lee's fever half way through - that would have made it extra special.. oh and a welcome newbie onto the skeds of smooth - which is shocking as it only seems that they've only got 6 records!!! tho thankfully i only hear smooth when me mum gives me a lift so no chance of overplay as of yet for The Informer by Jools Holland and Ruby Turner...which is a great bluesy skanking tune imo!!! eIMEjagkMS8 also here's Suggs & Jools Holland with Oranges & Lemons: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bIkMPoLBzWc (well i suppose Squeeze were somewhere between Crowded House and Madness...tho not to be confused with Mad'House obv :lol: ) Peggy Lee - Fever:

Tony Christie/Richard Hawley - Made In Shefield
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/c/c1/Made_in_Sheffield.jpg Did anybody hear anything from the Tony Christie album featuring songs and production by Richard Hawley....could be an intersting album to listen to - tho obv didnt find too many homes as the over-familure chessiness of amerillio might but loads of people who are not into the works of former Longpigs-Pulp man off...but even tho you dont want to be reminded of that song or the directions to that city...always good to hear Walk Like a Panther (groooooooowl) :yahoo: Richard Hawley - Coles Corner pR-MTZVppkA Tony Christie - Coles Corner Y-xu2ZfdBuE Tony Christie feat. All Seeing I - Walk Like a Panther xeFyD-JYWD0

Roy Orbison
watching Roy Orbison (grooooooooooooooowl!!! mercy!!!) on totp2 the other night and when you work out his DOB and death and then think that if he had lived and not died 20 years ago he would only be the same age as glen campbell...even though in B&W TV days in the 60s he looked like your grandad..really really old lookin even then...and then if you could put a thought into the what if... machine that if Roy Orbison had lived what would he be doing now...would he have done a cash/meet glan campbell album and who with..just think if you could have that voice tackling something like Coles Corner by Richard Hawley...would be much better than Tony Christie imo!!! Richard Hawley - Coles Corner pR-MTZVppkA

Different songs with the same title
and if this thread is going general rather than retro you know which indie dude to blame (not us - give brian that forum now!!!) however a brilliant bit of boyband funk for you...N'SYNC with I Want You Back JCrNRzSEvnY and X-Press 2 with Dieter from Yello - I Want You Back...(ooooooooooh yeah such a good tune a really good tune!!!) 2gC7XNXwuwI which reminds me that didnt both yello and roxy music do an oh yeah tho you might like the great ash record better!!! - but doesnt really tie up the ends as well from roxy to roxy... s3WLaOdHi94

Kissing The Pink
I was playing the X-Press 2 album Raise Your Hands - the greatest hits the other day....(featuring Lazy with David Byrne :cheer: , Smoke Machine, Kill 100, Give It with Kurt Wagner :cheer: and Witchi tai to with Tim DeLaughter :cheer: on it) - and seeing that Kissing The Pink turned up on most tracks of X-Press 2's last album...was thinking could there be an old Kissing The Pink song Last Film be a contender for a a pumping jump-stylee dance update by obscure leftfield 80s synthpop specialists scooter..to follow sisters of mercy or OMD... so could Last Film ( ) be a contender for an update by scooter... maybe - but arcade fire would make a much better match imo...so one for the list of covers i would like win butler to do!!! how about KTP's Stand Up??? ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ET9F-eZw7m4...feature=related ) well as this sounds to me like underworld (well underneath the radar rather than born slippy) maybe it needs to be covered by a random aussie contestant of big brother like ex-BB star Danielle did...( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c4_6yYnJmTI ) well we might have some success for HP baxxter and co here as. Kissing the Pink's Radio On ( ) sounds like bad Depeche Mode..and therefore the former (celebrate the) nunsters would have no trouble tackling this ! result!!! (tho also wanting to see if scooter tackle yello first tho i guess it would just sound like jam & spoon or westbam hands on yello... yello man Dieter Meier with x-press 2 here: )

Different songs with the same title
how about this for retro....two songs/co-writes by retro artists for a couple of artists who share a very obv connection...spooky!!! Kissing The Pink with their Gareth Gates song http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/2/2a/Garethgates_changes.jpg Francis White of Eg & Alice with Will Young http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/0/07/Willyoungchanges.jpg
