Camille 'Money Note' ıı 23 June 2008
Camille - 'Gospel with No Lord' (Charisma) Since EVERY review of this single is going to mention Bobby McFerrin at least once I'll get it out of the way now - yes, this is a track largely made up of acapella grunts, clicks, slaps and everything that made Mr McFerrin world famous for a very short time in the 1980's. Now, there's a very real chance a similar formula will work for French artiste Camille to break through into fame - bringing her brother-in-law, sisiter-in-law and, erm, hamster-in-law with her presumably. 'Gospel With No Lord' is one of those unique and indescribable delights which pop into the ether with no warning at all. A fabulous mindf*** from beginning to end with occasional glimpses at a mainstream future - mais non! Cela ennuyeux! Culturedeluxe.com So we class Peter Robinson in the Guardian as a singles review or a short comedy act   tho i'm quite shocked that neither his or yours mentions Medúlla which I thought would be more likely than mentioning Paul Weller in a Blow Monkeys review...

'Pigeon Detectives Have Diluted British Indie Scene'
http://www.nicorola.de/wp-content/uploads/2006/03/pwei_group_01.jpg Tho a scenester wouldn't be seen dead buying a record from a band who looked a bad as they do  - and no doubt thats probably why the last time i saw them mentoned in the NME it wasnt in the most positive light (even tho with their version of Love Missile F1-11 - done in a Big Audio stylee - they may have been the ones who actually invented Carbon/silicon along the way - and there like Leg-ends!!!)... tho your saying aren't proper Indie/Alternative acts out there - but what is??? maybe your just being nostagic and lookingthru rose tinted glasses - like oh the Smiths - brilliant, Sonic Youth - wonderful, Pixies - amazing etc etc - looking at the random indie charts below it was probably as bad or even worse as listening to the Pigeon Detectives and the kooks today - or would you rather have an album by The Three Johns (whoever the f*** they may be!!!) if you take the 1980s/early 1990s for the definition - and looking at the random chart show top tens that youtube sprung up this morning - maybe its easier just saying that these identikit landfill guitar bands (that have a certain style acceptable to viewers of 4music) are indie rock and thats it - genre definition closed without getting into the artistry of everything - dont need to do any art vs commerce discussion and say everything else that not some dudes in skinny jeans playing guitars is something else - not pop perhaps - not indie either.... yeah not get get into other areas such as PWEI's & the KLF's sampling culture - is that indie? and deciding whether all these 1980s synthpop/electropop acts like New Order, Electronic, Depeche Mode and Ladyhawke  are indie/alternative too...(tho notice Erasure turn up a lot and i guess Erasure could also be seen as being alternative when they started out due to their sparksian hi-nrg electronic disco being an alternative to those ugly big nasty 80s soul-pop records - tho obv they got more successful as they went on doing what they do)...dont need to go into the Kylie and Goldfrapp discussion too...(as indie seems to be 99.9% male genre thing) - and dont need to wonder whether its to do with record labels and distribution and thinking whether Mute, Heavenly, Virgin and Chrysalis were all independent labels that got swallowed up by EMI and are acts on Mute still indie etc etc... tho on the other hand maybe britpop just messed everything up..cause thats perhaps when it became centre stage in the mainstream with all that cool britainia stuff ...tho maybe because it went too pop the indie before is something else now just seen as a 'jangly simple, old fashioned guitar pop' (tho then again wouldnt the kooks come under this...?) because all that has gone before has lost its cool (apart from the sacrid texts of the pixies etc back catalogue) as its become more well known - and thats seems like the worst most uncool thing in indie land - becoming massive and selling loads of records..but then you think whats the point only liking record that about 4 other people in the country do...? 12A
yeah tho the DVD might be rated a 15 due to added extras - think Daredevil and Scorpian King both had suffered that fate...tho Wanted should have been a 15 at the cinema and then 18 on DVD if they were worried about glorifying Gun play to younger kids (which i guess why it would have been passed as an 18)

Emma Roberts - Wild Child
Well yeah man - i was thinking along those lines as well - less a wild child more like just an total annoyance...tho actually prefered this film to St Trinians which was British film makig at perhaps its most useless (and that includes Holiday On The Buses as well ) tho i guess 'm not spoiling it by saying when she becomes nice, her hair changes from the blonde...perhaps this is suppose to be somekinda satire or comment on LA celebrity - tho obv glasses, $h!t clothes and braces on your teeth have been dont to death a billion times before  (btw did you get to see how bad The Hottie and the Nottie was?!?!?) http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/5/52/Nancy_drew.jpg then again back to the subject of wild child - I wonder what would have happened if it was Nancy Drew instead of Poppy Moore that was sent to that boarding school - would have been less annoying but would it have been a better fish out of water film - or would everbody else be ready for Drew's 1950s Mambo parties

Has popcorn had its day?
Yeah i know...tho when it gets to the point where your so regular at the cinema that the ice-cream dude not only knows what Ben&Jerry's flavor your gonna have before asking but has already got it waiting - maybe getting to point where maybe you should try other sites....

Fujiya & Miyagi; "Knickerbocker" 25.08.08
yeah Ankle Injuries was brilliant - even if you dont like it as much surely it still brings a big smile to your face when you listen to it...? even tho you spend ages thinking of what else it reminds you of (perhaps stereolab doing qosta   - but no there is something else!!!)

Ladyhawke 'Ladyhawke' ıı 22 September 2008
but then if it does really well - it would be banned from the indie area and have to live with the ting tings in popland  as a song its alright for an 80s synthpop type thing - tho i prefer Dawn Of The Dead by DIOYY (which sounds like it should be more in a John Hughes 80s movie than any vampire or zombie horror) 5AJoRggrExQ

The Cure - The Perfect Boy
#1, #2 & #3 in the spanish charts..now why didnt music week just say that - stating the fact that you own the top three positions in the chart is a better fact than saying youve got 3 singles out of the top 5 as it could only be #3,#4, & #5 - which is impressive but not as impressive

Peter, Bjorn & John 'Seaside Rock' 23.09.08 [USA]
yeah - the designers are going for a kinda folky-bohemian-arty market vibe rather than mass-comercializtion and shiny pop bells and whistels look at me noooooooooooooooooooow design...which is fitting seeing as its a more leftfield project - a limited edition vinyl [near] instrumental album - ok some might say it is commercial suicide after the massive success of Young Folks - but then again they prob wont care...they are not a-ha ffs (tho i guess a-ha p***-off all goodwill of their top ten comeback by doing 3 solo projects - so if you won't to replace that last comment with another scandinavian band that sound like coldplay please be my guest   )

Colbie Caillat
Yeah they have been plugging the single loads in the ad breaks on the music channels...so obv they want it to do well

Does the World need another indie band?
Maybe Scouting for Girls are actually a better band than the Pigeon Detectives - who according to their last two singles are just a mediocre version of Scouting for Girls - tho Scouting for Girls are more annoying and omnipresent so we end up hating them more..plus the singer looks like Josh Harnett taking a dump...without the help of fibre-sure..straining under the weight of a damn hard stool....(if you need to go on please do)

Tricky vs Portishead
yeah i agree to that!!!

Santogold 'Lights Out' [18.08.08]
well i've it played late on my local radio indie show - but apart from that - it feels like nobody really cares anymore - like the album come out - thats the end of the obsession..do you get that feeling with acts too?

Mark E. Smith
...but i guess a scenester wouldnt be seen dead with a record by the fall   ...and i guess he fit into singer-songwriter and this area does have Bjork threads.... I've actually just bought some fall albums the other day to try (they are all the sanctuary 2 x cd stock going cheap now - oh mr. universal catalogue marketing man you are spoiling us...) - liked that article about the bloke who tried to locate all the 40+ ex-members of the fall from a few years ago - should have made that into a movie...maybe wouldnt have been as good as man on wire or dig! but i guess it would be better than giving cinema space to the love guru actually was thinking the other day as i was listening to the album (Middle Class Revolt) could he actually been seen as a Mancunian Dylan (tho i guess this should pedanticly be a Salfordian Bob Dylian but i dont actually know what people are called from Salford)...tho maybe a Mancunian Fred Schneider might be nearer the truth...makes you wish for a Mark E Smith cover of Rock Lob-stah M1S6WsqIia8 the fall - free rang-ah i4VdcMXVO_g The Fall - Victori-ah DPTpBoYVD8Q The Inspiral Cah-pets - I Want You

Emma Roberts - Wild Child
Well over two years lafter this post was first posted - its kinda obv that i think like nobody wants to be the next Lindsay Lohan and that the celebrity world will only ever see one pants-less is she really going out with her peroxide disaster area of that type....ever!!!  and that Anne Hathaway might be a much better role model to base yourself on (esp where nudity is concerned - Brokeback Mountain is much more classy than getting out onto the sidewalk  ) and seeing that Garry Marshall is supposed to have recycled most of Pretty Woman into The Princess Diaries, quite an obtainable career choice  http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/f/fa/Wild_child_poster.jpg tho after seeing Wild Child (a term that probably would seen slight if used in connection with Li-Lo  ) it obv that this film wants so hard to be Mean Girls (tho crossed with St Trinians*) but falls like way way off...ob i'm not gonna say its brilliant but on the other hand wouldnt say its that that bad (esp when Jessica Alba & Eddie Murphy are allowed to keep making films - and I'll try not to think about the new upcoming Martin Lawrence film at this moment)...even tho the character of Poppy Moore is less wild child and perhaps the most obnoxious annoying arse ever to be the lead in a major teen movie (maybe the first draft was too peaches geldof - the movie and they had to change it  ) - so much of an annoying arse that you were hoping that the head girl would give her a punch somewhere in the first act (yeah The Plastics were much more loveable even at their worst!!!) Tho its slightly weird how the first part of the film when you cant really tolerate her is better, the comedy being kinda spunkier and having a better pace - and some alright fish outta water juxapositions (liked the freaky friday ref.) - tho when the traditional teen movie transformation into nice occurrs (and yeah think i'm missing she's all that now!!!) - the film becomes more lackluster and starts to drag with the script not knowing what to do with itself and diversions into sport movie territory.... also one other thing i noticed even though the rating has concerns over moderate language and sex references - see how cigarettes and alcohol are skipped over but kinda secretly implied - i guess this would help getting a 12A - i guess if the wild child had been a chain-smoking p***-head I wonder if the BBFC would have slapped an 18 out right  !!!! *not the remake tho - esp seeing that the set design seems to be modeled on Holiday On The Buses for most of the time

12A
Well theres been a load a discussion in the press and elsewhere about the 12A rating - tho a little of it being Dark Knight fanboys not wanting their beloved film ruined by 5 year old running about  - tho away from the dark knight's ultra-violence you've had reports that one film (Angus, Thongs and Perfect Snogging) got a 12A with one title and 15 with another (Angus, Thongs and Full-frontal Snogging) and tween-friendly 12A Wild Child gearing up for the after the watershead Mean Girls 9pm film4 slot with all its bloodies, $h!ts, shags and assholes (tho one seemed to come across as an arsss-hole) - language that probs would get complaints from my dad if it was on tv....and a film some would say should have its rating swapped with UK18 rated Britich coming of age film This Is England - which should be widely seen by more  (This Is England - Germany:12, Sweden:11, Ireland:18, Netherlands:16) http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/f/fa/Wild_child_poster.jpg so 12A - good thing or bad thing - should it go back to 12, should it be abolished altogether, should the classification be tougher? what should it allow etc etc etc

X-Files: I Want To Believe
I would have said well thats because Jessica Alba is always in the top ten honeys..but i read the other week that in about 1997 Gillian Anderson was #1 either maxim's or fhm most saxy list...so if thats true i guess in a decade or more's time it will be fliiped with Anderson getting interesting supporting roles and the plank-like Alba not only ending up in mumsy-roles in daytime 'Lifetime' TV Movies but elipsed by her child as well who's turned out as the new Emma Roberts ... Well i guess some people would be only happy if Connolly is riding around the country on a motortrike shouting 'big jobbies' and yeah Ken Stott is a good actor - there a new dvd just released of an old series that stars him and David Tennant about hospital radio in a mental home that looks like it could be an alright show to watch if it come cheap...

Make It Happen
Well its almost like 'Save The Last Dance part 927' innit  - off a never ending urban dance production line... didnt hate it - actually alright but they are slightly all the same...slightly like the management thought lets remake 'Save The Last Dance' by the way of 'Coyote Ugly' (tho this could be seen as a good thing as those two films have been played to death so much by respectivly channel 4 and itv - and you've seen them so many times you get to the point where its an ordeal to sit thru them again - and these were film you thought were brilliant first time watching them - Bring It On (otoh) - still very watchable on reruns). Also can't say how good the dancing was as i don't dance i just bounce up and down - would need my brother's expert opinion for that but he couldnt make it to the cinema Actually thought that that Jamelia track worked very well in that - like the original sample by Depeche a lot so it was never my fave of all the Jamelia singles - but in the film thought it was good with those visuals.. and good to hear the 70s stylee funk channeled thru 90s electronica of unklejam's love ya again... Has popcorn had its day?
Info From the Clapham Picturehouse Wine Tasting + Film Event - Thursday 21 August, 7.00 Following the success of our recent Californian Wine Tasting event, we are delighted to announce that on 21 August we will be running an evening dedicated to the fine wines of Burgundy. The evening will consist of a tasting of 8 wines in an informal setting, with expert advice on hand, once again from our wine supplier Bibendum. Once you have tasted the wines, you will be entitled to a full glass of any of them before settling down to the 8.30 performance of LA VIE EN ROSE (12A) starring Marion Cotillard as Edith Piaf. The wines will also be available by the glass and bottle to enjoy while watching the film. Tickets cost £20 for Members and £22 for non-Members, and are available from the cinema or on 0871 704 2055. Me thinks quite a difference than your usual out of town leisure park cineworld... even tho Picture House cinemas are competing with those big multiplex circuits by showing Mamma Mia, The Dark Knight and even Wild Child in some of their sites (tho the one in Notting Hill Gate is showing the Pope's Toilet which has little chance of getting to cineworld) i'm getting the vibe that they are quite art-house at heart  and so maybe their regualrs...having no time for a populist downmarket americanized snack like hot buttered popcorn you mean you manage to smuggle them in with out being strip searched....they may say they are looking in your bag for a camcorder but we know the truth...its the candy-patrol!!!!!
