  1. I dont know why but that sentance made me laugh... think it was the fact that there was a band called wang chung...tho might have been funnier if Wang Chung were supporting Hear'say at the time..tho most likely it would have been the other hearsay featuring R&B queen of crunk Ciara as wang chung were the live and die in LA dudes werent they!!!

i saw a bit of that show (the itv one that was broadcast last night)..and even tho some of the parts of like pinball wizard went on and on with muso playing - actually looked like a good show
  3. but the added problem you put into the equasion is thats its 11pm so obv you gotta get the vibe really really right...and with bowie it might be the wrong vibe as there might be the sing-a-longa-bility to think about...and personally if theres songs to sing along to might be wrong to listen to it then as personally if i was in my house i would get my dad annoyed for playing music too loud really late into the night and probs have a go at me as the neighbor's would wanna go to sleep at that point...so also no scooter or clubland albums either... i've got a 100 hits of power ballads on at the moment and even thats agreeable background noise thats not really annoying my dad (unlike springsteen the other day  ) think at that point in the night it would probs bore me if i was just listening to it reading my copy of record collector...i was listening to the best of the verve the other night at about 11 and the was boring me at that point as the vibe was wrong... i guess the best vibe would be some old soul - marvin or curtis or something found on something like ace records...but not too nothern souly something more chilled...something that would suit you and everyone else around you... but not something that would send you to sleep if you were a bit tired or bore you if you were hyper and staying up way after your parents had gone to bed... I think this discussion should go into a 'Brian91's General Music Discussion' area..well obv!!!
  4. is there anybody will all the charted versions of crazy in their collection? obv people might like the seal one but how about lucid??

anyway i think the The Smiths are over-rated...was listening to the liverpool manchester cd on wea's korova records imprint and prefered liverpool...echo and bunnymen think are better - under-rated as for the list above and really really uncool acts...Cliff Richard's In the Country is like a lost jangly-indie pop classic and really quite good...(oh this might be a subliminal housemartins ref there pop quiz trivia fans)..tho other cliff songs may be seem as better when viewed with the added thought of kitsch hillarity and rollerskating videos put into the equasion  ...but maybe not as funny as barry manilow on totp2 the other night...still laughing about that days afterwards
  6. c'mon just see it as part of your pop quiz - you like doing those dont you...tho i'm guessing its a really bumper filled slice of pop trivia type of quiz than just song title, band name and year (the last things always so hard)
  7. didnt Marvin the Paranoid Android have a hit single as well?

had this debate before and its still not fully resolved. personally retro should be for material before y2k... however mate seeing as we dont have the specialist area anymore - think best solution would be to post all the heritage stuff here...and esp for any of the jazz, blues and etc...tho i'm gonna put a jools holland and toots thread in indie for the moment...as that is what is wanted... (however please note as the original request pre-culture box, pre-music culture, pre-specialist was for a general music area that would be for the type of threads that brian91 does that sometimes goes outside the retro area...maybe it would have been better to give brian91 the mod job with the general music area in the first place and left me out of trying to deal with all the clueless halfwits who think all those specialist genres is the same as guitar-pop) http://content9.flixster.com/photo/35/74/40/3574407_tml.jpg ...and its quite scarey to think that the joker died at the beginning of 2008 and the catwoman at the end...
  9. According to Record Collector, Paddy McAloon and Prefab Sprout's newbie is out soon...which might make up for the non-appearence in the charts of the 'last' Captain album and maybe will turn out like an even weirder Stars if the album continues on from the bizarre sound collages of I trawl the megahurtz ...tho i'm guessing it will probs turn out to be lush country rock rather than wild beast indie jangling...
  10. ..and im guessing that Dave Gilmour and pink floyd might turn up on bbc four over the next week as its prog session...
  11. The ZTT / Stiff records boxsets are good - and that Motown #1s boxset shaped in the style of their recording studios hitsville usa looks good...and with 10 discs only works out about £6 per disc.... btw the talking heads boxset is that the long pastoral painted one with the extended storytelling giant dvd (with the blind blind blind song and nothing but flowers on it) or a newbie? if the one with storytelling giant yeah got that somewhere - good introduction to the band...

Why? Is that because we dont have anywhere for jazz anymore since the specialist area was terminated (merged is not the word)
  18. and this from somebody who wrote in a Mystery Jets thread: ^ They've been dropped I believe for two reasons: firstly due to disappointing album sales and secondly as 679 want to put their full attention/funding behind Little Boots for 2009... the specialist area was the mystery jets of bj!!! providing a haven for 'art' in a see of nasty commercialism!!! (tho my point is to wipe it off the map completely....and not been asked about it too)

yeah she was on Later with Jools only a few months back as well...so it was a bit of a shock as she performed so well for her age...and the battle against cancer she was fighting... may the Catwoman RIP
  20. so your a f***ing accountant are you?? thats the truth!!! thats the mentallity you have!!! all about traffic!!! the area was called 'specialist' doesn't that tell you what it is... of course it wasnt gonna be as popular as punk...as it was specialist...and btw isnt Indie, runk, metal, alternative all supposed to be rock music - thats why they should have been merged into a rock area...that was the point...
  21. I must say it's f***ing retarded that (and without any considertaion) that the specialist music area (singer/songwriter/jazz/world) has been merge with the rock section...why wasn't the punk and rock areas merged!!!
  22. Think it's time for a Chaka Demus and Pliers revival!! Esp with 'Twist and Shout' on the BBC's advert (with Jack Radics and Sly & Robbie's Taxi Gang)..think its time for the the reggae overloards to return...
  23. think thats universal/island's fault
  24. I don't know - its dumb!! would have been better to merge the rock/indie and punk/metal together...
  25. you know you can get The Sleepy Jackson's last album - Personality - One Was a Spider, One Was a Bird - on CD/DVD for a few quid now in the sale...quite alright if you like this or george harrison.. http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/2/2d/TheSleepyJackson_Personality.jpg
