Did anyone watch the Baby's Room on BBC Four? I think it was on last Tuesday night in the Spanish Horror - Films to keep you awake slot - Even tho it was a TV movie the film got a good review in the Radio Times (4 stars) and was supposed to be better then the Oxford Murders - Alex de la Iglesias' recent thetatrical film
  2. This morning at about 11.04am BBC Radio 2 were playing The KLF's Justified and Ancient, and then right after at about 11.08am Radio One was playing Cornershop's Brimful Of Asha - I guess both could be put in the genre indie-dance (KLF being an independent dance band but also being part of that sampling thing like PWEI - and i guess fallling in with Jesus Jones, EMF and the Shamen) and Cornershop's Brimful Of Asha being a big beat remix of an indie track - but would both straight into the pop secction now??? Where would these indie-dance records be now listed...
  3. yeah and normally the Cds are cheap as well by that time
  4. from this weeks EW Guys on the Rise: Emerging Singer-Songwriters You've heard their voices on ''Grey's Anatomy,'' as opening acts, in the blogosphere -- we're betting a lot of music fans will be talking about them in the years ahead By Leah Greenblatt | May 21, 2008 BRETT DENNEN The Backstory Thanks in part to fan John Mayer, who's taking him on tour this summer, the 28-year-old Californian's tender, raspy-voiced ballads are gaining wider notice. His songs have also turned up on Grey's Anatomy and American Idol. For Fans of Mayer, Jason Mraz, Dave Matthews, and other melody hounds — plus hall-of-famers James Taylor and Paul Simon. Released nearly a year and a half ago, Dennen's debut, So Much More, is a stealthy, still-climbing seller. Best Track ''Darlin' Do Not Fear'' (myspace.com/brettdennen) LANDON PIGG The Backstory Winsome, sweet-voiced Nashville native, 24, finds sudden fame with a diamond ad featuring his indelible ''Falling in Love at a Coffee Shop.'' iTunes download bonanza ensues. For Fans of Rufus Wainwright. Though Pigg recently opened for Gavin DeGraw, his delicate songs (see: Pigg's EP, Coffee Shop) sound more like the swoony Wainwright, minus his arch piano pomp. Best Track ''Falling in Love at a Coffee Shop'' (myspace.com/landonpiggmusic) JUSTIN NOZUKA The Backstory Raised in Toronto, this 19-year-old is wasting no time. He's already released a well-received debut, Holly, and has a full touring schedule. Bonus trivia: He's Kyra Sedgwick's nephew. For Fans of Gavin DeGraw, Citizen Cope, and other polished unplugged-soul acolytes. It also doesn't hurt that he looks like an Abercrombie model. Best Track ''After Tonight'' (myspace.com/justinnozuka) EW.com exclusive! Hear Justin Nozuka perform kinetic rocker ''Criminal,'' recorded live in Amsterdam in November 2007. PADDY CASEY The Backstory He's a cult draw over here, but the former busker, 34, is a platinum seller in Ireland (granted, ''platinum'' equals 15,000 CDs sold there). For Fans of Full-bodied, rollicking folk rock, plus artists like Crowded House, the Frames, and Ron Sexsmith. The singer's third full-length, Addicted to Company, hit our shores last month. Best Track ''City'' (myspace.com/paddycasey) BRENDAN JAMES The Backstory The 28-year-old Manhattanite went from toiling at Urban Outfitters to having his ballad ''Hero's Song'' featured alongside Eddie Vedder, Neil Young, and the Boss on the soundtrack for March's Iraq doc Body of War. Look for his debut, The Day Is Brave, dropping June 3. For Fans of Confessional acoustica, à la James Taylor, Grant-Lee Phillips, or even an XY-chromosomed Colbie Caillat, topped with nougaty piano flourishes. Best Track ''Hero's Song'' (myspace.com/brendanjames) SAM AMIDON The Backstory A boy from Vermont who sounds like Nick Drake records an LP of reworked traditional folk songs in Iceland with avant-jazz guest stars. The result? All Is Well (out now), an album of fragile, spooky loveliness. For Fans of Drake, for sure, but also classic Elliott Smith, and Sufjan Stevens' more reflective material. Amidon, 26, uses strings, woodwinds, and brass to striking effect. Best Track ''Saro'' (myspace.com/samamidon) Please add to the list:

I doubt so - live albums dont seem to sell that well unless part of a dvd set and would probs be to early for her in terms of public appreciation
  6. As everybody knows Britain's Got Talent is on also at the moment - but do you think a song contest like Eurovision would be better if Simon Cowell and a number of industry types was added into the mix - as you know World Idol didnt work as there was too many judges trying to give opinions - however I think in the 1960s they used to have a panel that would held up scorecards for each act (tho i might be getting mixed up with old foootage of Miss World or Opportunity Knocks that Ive seen on a clip show) - tho I think if you still had this panel. plus 3 judges to give a verdict like America's Got Talent/American Idol after every act and then a phone vote split into regions (Balkans, Scandinavia, UK & Ireland, Beneluxe, the GSA etc etc) it might work out better as a way of launching acts on a European music scene...what does anyone else think??
  7. so will that be 11pm local time then or will the concert becoming to UK screens at 4.30pm on a saturday arvo  ?!?!?
  8. tigerboy posted a post in a topic in Eurovision Song Contest
and there's also Abkhazia, South Ossetia and Transnistria waiting in the wings
  9. http://www.indiana.edu/~animal/fun/conversions/convertpix/timezone647x331.gif Was thinking that with next years ESC being held in Russia - the concert is gonna start very late local time innit - so i was wondering would a Song Contest be more intersting going down the GMT - Universal Line time zonewith countries in Africa or indeed a mixture of people in the UTC time zone and +1
  10. Yeah Sébastian Tellier's perf was cool... tho its a pity everyone thinks they are so damn cool these days and wouldnt let someone like the Cheeky Girls, Lou Bega or the Vengaboys into the charts as we could really really do with Pirates Of The Sea - Wolves Of The Sea being at Number One rather than the borden of Rihanna!!!
  11. no he wasnt.... we liked eddie the eagle edwards! and also he was very big in Finland...got to number 2 with "MUN NIEMI EN EETU"...so that would have been 12 more points for the UK entry then and as for Andy Abraham...so what if Even If got to #67 in the charts...thats still 1 place higher than David Jordan the week before and 7 places higher than that other ZTT-er Seal a few months back....i would say he's in the right company there... tho I think i'll stick with listening to t.A.T.u. and Propaganda
  12. Well even tho im not gonna spend months psyching myself up in the run up to Eurovision - yeah the final was a bit of an anti-climax - actually last night's Britain's Got Talent was a much better competition - and actually much more camp as well
  13. But perhaps by the times Cliff entered the contest he wasnt the sexy be-quiffed British Elvis with a load of great Brit-pop ( ) Rock-N-Roll tunes - and instead a commited Christian in some kinda cheesy Light Entertainment TV Hell??? (maybe the same with Lulu and Sandie - i guess it was pre-Take That, pre-Dome Records, pre-Moz and Lloyd 'Jimmy Carr-a-like' Cole) and I wonder what does Cheryl Baker of 1970s Eurovision types CoCo think about ESC in the 60s and 70s.... viF4rBgnr7s On the other hand I think Austria may have had a good point with chucking all the failed countries out from scoring... tho Dieter Bohlen would if he hasnt done already   and maybe we could have Ross Antony or Right Said Fred singing it - and if we're really really stuck David Van Day could be the man  but isnt this also kinda the reasoning why punk was such a big thing in 1977..against all the prog-rockers who had the technical ability Yeah true, totally true - just have to see Jonathan Dimbelby's Russia programme the other week from Dagestan to know this is true tho Miss World may be a less pointless contest compared to ESC - tho in these post-ladette/Loaded days of Nuts and Zoo - perhaps doing a lot for charitee and not getting just your boobs out is a bit old fashioned
  14. from Rhino (aka Warner Music TV) Brit Box: U.K. Indie, Shoegaze And Brit-Pop Gems Of The Last Millenium The British are coming in a big way as Rhino presents the first-ever comprehensive survey of U.K. indie music with the king's ransom-sized, 4-CD THE BRIT BOX: U.K. INDIE, SHOEGAZE, AND BRIT-POP [sic] GEMS OF THE LAST MILLENNIUM. It gathers 78 key tastemaker recordings from U.K. performers spanning the last 15 years of the 20th century, chronologically sequenced over four packed discs. This celebration of cool Britannia is housed in bloody awesome box shaped like a classic red U.K. telephone booth -with working lights - and comes with a matching phone kiosk-shaped collectible keychain! While many of these acts claimed superstar status in Mother England, only a select few seriously impacted the U.S. charts - but their stylistic imprint and collective hip factor clearly steered the course of contemporary music as the last millennium wound down. With the respect given the earlier '60s-era British Invasion in so many other compilations, the THE BRIT BOX is the first collection to hail Britannia with a wealth of music previously available only to those combing through the import bins at their local record stores. These artists didn't so much reject mainstream musical sensibilities as spin them in their own fashion for tracks that remain the essence of cool. Disc 1, the first of THE BRIT BOX's four chronologically ordered CDs, roughly spans 1984-1990. Seminal U.K. artists including The Smiths, Jesus & Mary Chain and The Stone Roses take timeless guitar-pop and freshly reinvent it, while groups including Happy Mondays and Primal Scream borrow gleefully from hip-hop to give birth to acid house. Disc 2, spanning '90 to '93, explores bands that came to be known in the British press as “shoegazers,” acts that spent more time looking at their feet than making eye contact with their audiences. Featuring tracks by Ride, My Bloody Valentine, The Telescopes and others, the music courses through a sonic space comprised of introspective soundscapes, hazy guitars and dense production. Disc 3, focusing heavily on '94-'95, opens with Suede's “Metal Mickey.” Throughout, the song sequence heralds the arrival of Brit-pop, and hugely popular bands including Oasis, Blur, Pulp, and Elastica. Disc 4, THE BRIT BOX's final CD, shows that even latecomers to the party like Ash, Super Furry Animals, Mansun, The Verve, and Placebo had some smashing songs in them. Totaling over five hours of music, THE BRIT BOX: U.K. INDIE, SHOEGAZE, AND BRIT-POP GEMS OF THE LAST MILLENNIUM also features an 80 page booklet with interviews, memories and essays from Creation Records founder Alan McGee, seminal producers Stephen Street and Alan Moulder and an assortment of artists. 15. I wouldnt bother with Universal's freebies that you get when signing up to their mailing lists - a lot of the time you seem to be going round in circles trying to get a free track
  16. http://www.solitaryvision.co.uk/mediac/400_0/media/fireworks19shadow.jpg Well no I wouldnt say you personally are an 'indie bore' because obv we are moving from indie to a whole differeent are of rock and as you know a few editions of Hit Parader doesnt make a Metal Mastermind does it now... and when it comes to Hard and Metal area of Rock its obv the thing that you know the best...you know the whole oeuvres of these acts above where I only know certain well known tracks - and yeah by taking the debate into the Metal arena I am slightly out of my depth as its not really the thing I'm into**...but even without listening to the whole cannon of Ratt, Poison and Quiet Riot (names picked just from that issue of Rolling Stone as you remember)..the point that I was trying to get across is the 'Superioity' and 'coolness' that some music fans and critics seem to award themselves by listening to certain kinds of music...and I guess the negative ways that other forms of music will be criticized and 'labeled' with out fair consideration... and it seems we're going back with PWL rather than PIL again  http://www.london-se1.co.uk/news/imageuploads/1159523363_80.177.117.97.jpg Actually, with the advent of bands like The Kooks and One Night Only, I'm terming it more (S)indie Haircut Bollocks...... "Britpop" at least had a bit of "rough and ready" about it, this current crop just seem like a right bunch of big girl's blouses manufactured in some "indie" factory somewhere..... Yeah Indie-Hair-cut-bollcoks is a good definition probs better than Britpop as the problem with Britpop is that now the Americans are using it with their ultra-genre-hyphen-obessession and have re-branded it as 'Brit-pop' - it probably doesn't have the same connotations and cultural significance that the Journlist that coined Britpop*** meaning a certain period, movement and time in that part of British Musical Culture and in could just just as well mean any British Pop group or Rick Astley****... Notes: **and yeah actually I would probably expect a book of 1980s Metal in the humour section - and expect Bring Your Daughter To The Slaughter to have been in Eurovision ) http://ec2.images-amazon.com/images/P/193259518X.01._SS500_SCLZZZZZZZ_V34303681_.jpg ***Maybe it should be writen Brit.Pop ****Yeah its obv that Rick Astley is the disco Micheal McDonald - tho can you think of a better punchline than Rick Astley - I know I can't

Yeah the Knife are great - and you should be able to find both Deep Cuts and Silent Shout with the extra DVDs that come with some copies - actually Silent Shout is about a 3 disc set with an additional CD though I havent got that one yet - only Depp Cuts
  18. tigerboy posted a post in a topic in Pop and Country
yeah i liked it when i first heard it (all those months back  ) but like any record that hangs around for ages you get bored of it and yeah that advert sync deal meant it was always on tv in the ad breaks (when me dad's not pressing the mute button!!!) - and yeah because of those ads it did get a bit irritating
  19. New Order's Krafty has just come on the CD i'm listening too and for a second I thought the intro was gonna be for someone like Sugababes - and actually I think if they needed to do a good electropop cover - I think this record would be so great for them!!! Does anyone else agree or is there any other record that would be better covers?
  20. tigerboy posted a post in a topic in UK Charts
and what about records that dont do much sales but are big on the radio...for example Freewheel by Duke Special which didnt do much in the chart, didnt power the album into the top 20 but was getting airplay even this morning!! is that a hit, miss or maybe??
  21. didnt expect Trent to own the masters - expect the masters to be with 'our friends' Spiritualized and The Fall among the back cat of the 'Universal Catalog Marketing Department' (coming from Nothing thru Interscope) though the original album was released on TVT Records but looking in the hit singles book its got an Island catalog reference number - and as TVT Records (Lil Jon and The Holloways' record label) went bankrupt I'm guessing the masters will have gone to Universal when Chris Blackwell sold the company to Universal - but of course the rights could be with anyone - Prism Leisure even with the Telstar and Big Life recordings   http://www.buzzjack.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=70689
  22. tigerboy posted a post in a topic in Pop and Country
wow a reply to this thread after nearly 6 months  like the Sandi Thom thread from a few years ago - I think its obv nobody's gonna be bothered investigating an act until they heard the song loads of time on the radio...true innit...
  23. and guess what I'm listening to Long Time Gone - 15 All-New American Music Classics from Uncut Magazine - and guess what....yeah Skinny Love is on this CD as well....do you think 4AD/Jagjaguwar wont licence any other tracks from promo purposes  ?!?!?
  24. Featuring Fleet Foxes, Mark Eitzel's American Music Club, Bon Iver, Joan as Police Woman as well as other - what do people think of the new Uncut Magazine Free Cd?
  25. No I think it was Chris Pine who said that McFly were a 'Hot New Rock Band' http://img87.imageshack.us/img87/9726/justmyluckalt4nv.jpg
