  1. I can think of quite a load of Metal, Industrial, EBM, Electro, Goth and Hard Rock bands from Europe that are great, but European "Indie" bands....? I'm struggling......

Alec Empire - he's got his own label (Digital Hardcore), and it's bloody hard to pin him into a specific genre as such (Industrial/Techno/Punk Rock....?), so I'll start us off with him....

...Mind you, quite a few of the Euro-Metal bands that I listen to aren't on major labels, so going by the original definition of Indie=bands on Independent labels, you could add Moonlight (Poland), The Gathering (Holland), Epica (Holland), Ataraxia (Italy), After Forever (Holland), Gothminster (Norway), Mortiis (Norway).......

Well i wasnt gonna go over to the 'dark side'  as thats more suited to the other area of this forum

(also mew are danish but hey its near enough to sweden and no doubt they were the same country in something like 1806   however the random page generator at wikipedia has taken me to Tristan da Cunha and im not bothering to look at that scandifact   its all Æ ø ö to me anyway   )

further to the argument that all jangly indie music should be termed britpop and knowing thats its eurovision on saturday (and noone has come up with any decent foreign acts)

does this mean all indie music from europe is rubbish?

(well probably apart from a few acts in sweden  )

great rammstein soundtracked scene at the start as well!!! brilliant

  6.

100% in agreement with you there mate, which is why I see 'em as AOR, rock only without the rawness, energy and guts. Coldplay just remind me of these awful AOR bands of the 70s/80s (you know the types - Chicago, Boston, Foreigner; earnest, big stadium ballads, utterly, utterly fukkin' tedious.....)

an article in one of the mags said

  9. It really wasn't as dire as I'd feared it would be, but yeah, the bits you mentioned were pretty bloody dopey it has to be said. The problem with this film is that the trailer just totally gives away the "twist" (ie, that the killer is already in the house making the calls), now, for people who'd never seen the original, the whole point of seeing it is kinda rendered null and void by that trailer...

But obviously, it's nowhere near as suspenseful as the original. By the way, did you ever see a little-known 1971 Canadian horror with a similar theme called "Black Christmas" which came out about two or three years before the original of this.... (starring a young Margot Kidder no less...)? It was set in a Sorority House and had pretty much exactly the same twist in the plot....

the reviews have been terrible. however i might go and see it just for Camilla Belle. wanted to see jack and rose but we didnt get that at the cinema.

have you got the original? where is it from/what distributor?

  10. I decided to do a poll on which of the five recently released single that peaked at #40 but in your opinion didn't deserve to make the top 40 at all.

Hope you like my first poll thread ever.

well it would have been better if you had put the records that were at 41,

or better still just did number 10 and 11 as 40 doesnt really get that much press and the top of the chart is more important, (think the bbc only starting there as its roughly half way and to do the full 75 would take longer)

or what no76 should have become a hit (and got in the hit singles book not to be lost forever )

then again for record that doesnt deserve to be top 40 this week i choose daz sampson

  11. I think most of what's called indie just means 'soft-rock guitar bands'. I suppose guitar based pop bands is the most suitable label, but 'pop' has connotations of bubblegum all-dancing-and-a-couple-singing acts so perhaps the guitar bands don't want to lumped together with them.

But guitar based pop band is such a mouthful, like a vocal version of a blocked toilet  indie is much easier to drop in conversation. and people would think your a tit if you kept putting in the phrase well i like the new guitar based pop band tune by the

Grimly Fiendish is spot on about it being daft to purely blame The Spice Girls- Stock Aitken Waterman started it if anything. That said, they certainly weren't the first hit 'factory' full of acts which had songs written for them. Motown for example was established way before that (although that was quite a bit different I guess).

think it went back further than that to the birth of teenagers :o when guys called colin were reformulated as rock n roll stars called billy fury and marty wilde and similar extreme names for the time (dont quote me on dates though)

old bloke in office keeps going on about a bloke who had a gimpy leg. probs gene vincent or billy fury. cant remember at the mom ent

anyway he had this gimpy leg that he dragged around so they dressed him all in lether and put him on stage with loads of boys on bikes and so he turned into someone who looked cool rather than a disabled person

anyone interested in playing an alternative eurovision from saturday? with decent chart bands from europe rather than the dodgy musical delights of the proper show?

if you want to, decide how you would like to play it (scoring like eurovision, rate out of 10 or survivor)

and nominate chart bands for each country in europe (just so i dont chose random ones from wikipedia)

then the most popular ones i will post for you to do :cheer:
