1. If the charts are gonna have the same xmas songs over and over again every xmas i was thinking if tracks like slade or wizzard are known as much on the continent as they are played hear over xmas..or whether that kinda glam rock is more a uk thing and if there would be huge local differences like having xmas on Jan the 7th or on the 24th (well i guess boney M would feature a lot in europe)...and if you were dutch would the Rotterdam Termination Source's [Yo Gabba] Gabba dance classic Merry X Mess would be played to death of the x mas period... Rotterdam Termination Source - Merry X Mess GDzLHu7wo5Q Rotterdam Termination Source - Poing Erdd0c657nA btw i bet everybody on here is glad that the crazy frog didnt do a cover of the poing poing poing song (tho this does make it sound like a techno sisqo at the mo)...tho after watching some of peter kay's recent dodgy spoof (of the x-factor not of the staying out for the summer dudes...tho that new xmas song does sound like a bit like a lost bit of 1995 britpop..tho if its good enough for you then its good enough for me  )...i'm thinking that a comedy version of the poing song turing up on that show would have been much funnier...(tho sampling terry-thomas so he 'covers' Günther and the sunshine girls would be even better tho i guess wouldnt be to the same standards as going through all the carry on films so that you have sampled sid james so that he sings pink floyd like some klf types did i believe)
2. B)--> QUOTE(Neil B @ Dec 18 2008, 09:09 AM) 23454568. DICKIE VALENTINE - "CHRISTMAS ISLAND" http://i5.ebayimg.com/06/i/001/18/4b/ff3f_1.JPG Entered chart w/e 8/12/56 Reached No.8 w/e 29/12/56 Weeks on chart : 5 Born Richard Bryce, 4/11/29 in London. He was killed in a car crash in Wales on 6/5/71. Sorry, but it was either this or "Your Christmas Wish" by the Smurfs Nothing on Youtube. Probably just as well! but "Your Christmas Wish" by the Smurfs seems to be on youtube..could have posted that and started a discussion of which current songs should be smurfatized - think i kissed a smurf would be like a so obv smurf song to do...and on the other hand i wonder if Technohead's Happy birthday could be transmognified into merry xmas? CL7mWswVbKo Technohead - Happy birthday
3. B)--> QUOTE(Neil B @ Dec 20 2008, 07:22 AM) 2348971Well, I still think it sounds like he's making it up as he goes along, but I can't help feeling nostalgic whenever I hear it playing in card shops :D well i can't help feeling sick when i hear it in card shops and have to depart quickly (tho havent heard it much this year as i've got my xmas cards this year from zavvi and has people like dolly parton on them) as for "Wonderful Christmastime"..can we bring back the crazy frog...please  ?
4. "An 80s synth CLASSIC" words to put a shiver down my spine :puke2: ..this is probably why going ding ding over and old Captain Hollywood record is slightly better...tho thats not to say that all 80s synthpop is dreadful, just probs about 95% - and tbh most of the refs given by la roux are much better than that what i've heard by that act and also just earlier had to play a-ha's Train of Thought because imo Take That's Greatest Day would sound much much better and much more soaring with Mortan Harket singing it instead of Gary Barlow...and this week hmv was playing not a too bad 80s synthpop compliation (tho tbh it was actually the Ladyhawke album   ) and Hot Butter's Popcorn is dreadful, one of the most annoying things I've heard - much more than the annoying thing - tho at this point i wonder if a few dings would improve on la roux
5. But isnt the chart show still going on its own tv channel (tho i think B4 has been scrapped for an urban music channel...but as a freeview viewer we dont get it we get 4music with nick grimshaw rptd endlessly  )...think they took over all of sky's music channels and also own a few freesat movie chanels as well... Actually would be good if BBC Four could repeat all the old TOTPs from the 70s with all those medalion men type presenters - as they are so like cheesily bad that its quite funny seeing them  - work well twined with Batman, but I guess it would like encroach on dave territory and i guess bcc four is so much more whistle test and serious docs. however noticed how most of the totp2 shows that are coming on tv over xmas are 45 minutes on the bbc - so that they have already been designed to fill an hour of dave airtime when the breaks are added... btw would like totp2 to show some of the clips from the german version of totp as well (i've got a couple of the german totp albums upstairs in my room as well!! as well as loads of bravo albums and some from the dome...which is like a german version of totp that does loads of events around the country - so maybe we should import a version of that to uk screens) http://www.thedome.de/start_frame But what will the point of that - it might be alright having a bit of 'Suntory time' watching clips of Whispering Bob Harris on BBC Four late at night..but would you really want it to come back when it would be no doubt presented by Nick Grimshaw and notourious bumbler Mark Radcliffe ("eh ah oh urm and welcome er urm ooh to the oh eh old erm whistle test erm ur eeeeh erhh") imo bring back Night Fever with Suggs and Pop Monkey!!!
6. Yeah - Don't riddim powerhouse and taxi gang dudes Sly & Robbie contribute quite a bit to the new album as well...(and isnt it time for a Chaka Demus and Pliers revival? Jack Radics can be invited too  ) Got Williams' Blood the other day - about 10 mixes for about £3 on iTunes - which means that it could be viewed as a 10 track album...which probs could be compared to her ZTT album project ...which i think was just varations of Slave to the Rhythm over and over again (missing from the boxset tho)
7. Nah there's loads of other stuff you could download instead...I think it would work better coming back from a few Christmas beers at the local and just happen to end up watching it on BBC 2 laste at night...it does have that vibe to it....

as for Labute The Shape of Things is good too....Haven't seen Changeling yet - asked dad if he wanted to go see it on the 241 but has either been tired or in a mood on the last couple of occasions (i guess its the stress of xmas arriving  ) and its still around for another week so i might go and see it this week. "Waltz With Bashir" was good tho was thinking of it as a documentary more than a 'film' of which i really meant 'movie' if you want to be pedantic about it, and seeing as everything else i've seen recently have been things like scar and the children - much better in comparsion and also towards things like the secret life of bees...which i guess could be brought into the conversation here as its to do with race (tho at the time of the civil rights movement years ago) but thats like a five afternoon movie something my dad would actually sit and watch at 3.30pm in the day...probs rather than the 'coming soon to film4 vibes' of the metaphor laden Lakeview Terrace...(which he might watch but might take offence if theres naughty language in it)...of which at this point it might be intersting to read the american posted comments on imbd...a site thats really has nothing to do with films..as it seems to be about race most of the time (with 95% of commenters wondering how jewish scarlett johansson is most of the time)...and a couple of years ago loads of criticsm from the african-american posters because Kerry Washington dared to date a white dude at the time (the boy from big who would turn into tom hanks when he went to the zoltar machine)...and maybe it could be seen as interesting that she was casted in that part with all the bad vibes from imdb...and seeing as she was Ben Grimm's lady in F4* and ended up with James McAvoy in Last King lets hope she doesnt get typecasted as the 'Black Chick who loves white dicks' or she will end up playing Sinitta in the Simon Cowell story  *tho obv Ben Grimm ended up looking like a large loaf of bread (but i guess The Thing looks better on Michael Chiklis CV than crusty tiger bread man)

havent seen it but the typography on the trailer i liked
10. I wouldn't say it was fantastic and i wouldnt say it was totally a disaster...tho i wouldnt say rush out to see it at the cinema more of a film that you would catch on bbc2 on 12.40 on a thursday night (after newsnight and a repeat of a bbc four production)...there was some intersting ideas in it, and you tell the idea was to go for a wicker man (not neil's - the orig) or a shining type of vibe...tho it had strong overtones of the league of gentleman..and you thought that maybe they should have gone straight for the funny bone as it would have worked much much better....or for most of the cast to be brutlly murdered in the first few minutes as i found them quite annoying...as they seemed to be nothing more than a bunch of guardian reading volvo driving mid 30s - 40s boho tossers (also near the end when more random children turned up - walked out as i thought it was just taking a turn into stupidity...and if it wasnt a comedy and supposed to be a propper horror thought it was taking a turn for the worst and make ruin what i've watched before)

I dont think anyone would want to class Gorillaz as just a "side-project" - its was much more interesting and important than that (and expensive too if its true that emi wouldnt sanction the band these days in the curent climate) tho obv others might want to discontinue the notion that Damon's involved in anyway as the members of the band could be seen as being as 'real' as a number of other pop bands and not just a group of drawings (if this was teletext i think a girls aloud stick figure comment could be attached here but as i like them not gonna go down that way). saw the blur advert in the nme (think it was a page before the specials)...its getting as bad as the listings ad pages of mojo or uncut...and the blur advert is so trading on parklife imagry - its verging on a 'here and now - the 90s' tour poster

http://web.ard.de/galerie/bilderpool/Radio/Falco/falco2.jpg ToYWrHuNFTE Falco-Titanic http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=BHK1erAT5AQ Falco - The Sound of Musik 1UtUaBJXjTI Falco-Push! Push! Falco Naked: http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=KkZhyHvtmAY Falco - Cyberlove: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=29p2FJvqJ_U&NR=1 10 years after his death an artist who like elvis is still massive in his home country...with a funeral i guess only nearly matched by Jörg Haider...providing Austria's Diana moment, the GSA regions 2pac...i give you Johann Hölzel - Falco... found a falco dvd this week and bought it as i couldnt believe that the video for naked got through the british censors unrated - from the clip of this techno-pop eurodance record that was shown on tv as couple of years back seemed to just feature Falco's face protected on loads of random boobs - and so going one further than any Ministry of sound video has so far...but i suppose thats the GSA region for you... and the video has over tones of a carry on version of the last virgin media advert (the one with mel B) but starring Anthony Stewart Head singing along to Right Said Fred as remixed by U96... Of the other songs on the video the best tunes at the moment are Titanic, Push! Push! and The Sound of Musik..which are shown above. He is actually quite a fascinatingly odd character in the way that he moves (esp in the sound of musik) like a cross between Andy McCluskey, suggs and david byrne after doing a bushtucker trial which has featured loads of insects being dropped into his pants. think he's most famous in the states for a song called Der Kommissar which with Nena are like the only german language top ten hits ever there (no rammstein amerika!!!???) well here's some versions of Der Kommissar - including a english version by Laura Branigan...which sounds like it has influnced Annie esp in something like Me Plus One... Falco - Der Kommissar: http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=uGEEBUupVAw After The Fire - http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=Guvo7gUdUnE&...feature=related Laura Branigan - Deep in the Dark (Der Kommissar): http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=823aeo0WU_k Erste Allgemeine Verunsicherung - Der Kommissar: FLHuxndWOo Erste Allgemeine Verunsicherung - EAV - Samurai (oh dear oh dear - there's eurocheese and there's eurocheese...have to draw the line somewhere... please play this video - think it may be more of a offence than broadcasting hitler)

yes but at time you feel that it should be a gross-out comedy from national lampoon with dumb jokes put in ever two minutes rather than the film that it was...(tho i guess as it is some would say its more funnier than An American Carol  ) yeah actually knew this but thought that putting 'Strong is like Anglo-Italian' sounded better and less pedantic..and would not sidetrack me onto much randomness about who could play Falco in an english language remake of his life... http://web.ard.de/galerie/bilderpool/Radio/Falco/falco2.jpg http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=BHK1erAT5AQ Falco - The Sound of Musik tho i think Michael Sheen could be brilliant in the role to go with his Kenneth Williams and Tony Blair...tho saying that I did see the Frost/Nixon trailer before that and its looking like a great film with both of them (Frank Langella and sheen) seem to be good in the roles...even tho they are probs less like the people they are trying to be in comparision to brolin in w ...its more effective...
15. yeah and it was briefly in the airplay chart as well...but this tune over took it (as well as stations still playing the first one over and over again)...should be physcical double with Sanctuary
16. no the newbie - but they seem to be on a record label called shangri-la music who could be anybody but most likely quite a small indie (they have signed the duke spirit in the usa, as they are on You Are Here records now rather than the major Uni/A&M associated loog recordings)...however doing alright on one of the billboard charts last time i looked (one that would also have stuff like coldplay and snow patrol on it - think it was either adult contempory or tripple a)

Yeah think that BBC Four will devote an evening to him as they did have that animation series not so long ago - so there will be stuff about Postgate and smallfilms already in their archive (think smallfilms was called that as it was based in a shed - wasnt it - and i think the show showed them going back to the shed to talk about there creations - was repeated quite a lot at about 1.30am)... btw The Clangers are great - one lives in my room and makes an odd noise when you squeeze its belly!!! my mum likes bagpuss (as well as Ivor the Engine) and was actually singing the song from the magical mechanical mouse organ the other day when she heard of the news... sounded quite goldfrapp
18. kIRs7ozcLmI Captain Hollywood - More and More T7Kcz74eLKk Captain Hollywood Project - Only With You 6SX7wbGnvas CAPTAIN HOLLYWOOD PROJECT - love & pain wLYqA3SgS8M DJ Murphy Brown featuring Captain Hollywood - Axel F 2003 (Offcast Remix) Captain Hollywood & twenty 4 seven - i can't stand it: http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=zI_k69xk9nI twenty 4 seven feat. captain hollywood - are you dreaming http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=VG2eANiDaEU&...feature=related Maybe seen here as the poor-man's Snap! and an act thAT seems to have been remixed over the years just as many times - and doing that perculiar deep almost monatone eurodance rap - that bizarrely sounds a bit like will.i.am's hippo in Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa   - here's a selection of Captain Hollywood hits with his project and with DJ Murphy Brown and twenty 4 seven - the twenty 4 seven hits which have dated even worse than the following records by CHP even tho there's only about 3 years in their release they sound like a decade away in sound tho can be seen to be of the same time period as Mark Wahlberg (and not to be confused with that other band from a couple of years ago who could re-emerge as the new script or ryes)...and talking of twenty 4 Seven.... xDZAK-kBVQY twenty 4 Seven - Like flames (ok this record is from last year - in the popular jumpstylee - and doesnt feature either Nance or Stay-C but like most of cascada's albums its a very very old record - this time done by berlin (tho obv the remake is much much better...but berlin's record is better than the take my breath away thing) http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=5Ms8YBHhZ8A
19. shouldnt this be in rock alongside david gilmore...as post 2000 is not retro* its more a heretige thing and therefore if thats the case you could just talk about the new albums by depeche, pet shop boys etc etc (tho seeing in here does get legitamize Scooter and Status Quo - so not actually complaining)
20. http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/e/ea/Scooter_-_Jumping_UK.JPG/200px-Scooter_-_Jumping_UK.JPG Its just a good job that there's still a classic rock thread in here with this critera...and that H.P. Baxxter and Rick J. Jordan have been around since 1987 first in Celebrate the Nun and secongly in scooter..and Status Quo even longer...so its time for a detailed discussion of German synthpop band Celebrate The Nun with Scooter and Status Quo thrown in for sure!!! http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/7/79/Celebrate_The_Nun.jpg I2R-80-7s_I Scooter vs Status Quo - Jump That Rock (Whatever You Want) Have to say that this works very well and hopefully it will get high into the charts (alongside Status Quo's Christmas single)...but anyway for starters here's a propaganda-ish track by Celebrate the nun and then some other tracks by Baxxter's pre-scooter band...and soem of them are very PSB/Depeche (with a bit of duran and heaven 17 thrown in as well) and thinking that they have been influence heavily by depeche you can underatnd how their version of depeche's stripped just sounds like depeche and is not done in the jump-stylee... tho after covering omd, depeche and the sisters of mercy think i may have a bet on what the next reading of an old 1980s track maybe on the 2009 scooter album - i'm going for then jerico's the motive by reborn storming off moody man mark shaw (and talking of reborn even tho would like to see reborn loser D.V.D. back in the jungle next year as a special returnee think its time for H.P. Baxxter to go on I'm A Celeb - and not the German version either!!!) Cry no more: Celebrate the Nun - My Jealousy: Celebrate The Nun (pre- Scooter) Interview + Videoclips: Celebrate the Nun - She's a Secretary: Celebrate the Nun - Don't You go: then jerico - the motive: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KHalaTjvxyM...feature=related
21. well try it this month as its got a polyvinyl sampler with of montreal, the ms and someone still loves you boris yeltsin on the cover - decnt enough to chuck the mag away without reading to just keep the cd
22. i suppose its better than this of the new album: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/f/f3/BreakUpTheConcrete.jpg tho its supposed to be a good album from some of the reviews in the american music press...
23. actually to give the bass bumpers credit they managed to inprove on the original version of axel F by adding a few ding dings here and there... and tbh i suppose it could be worse by having a rap by captain hollywood played throughout...and seeing that the crasy frog version of popcorn improved totally on the horrid hot butter version - and maid it more tolable think that creation shouldnt be criticized too much...its only dumb novelty eurodance ffs!!! HzV_W_stx3c BASS BUMPERS - THE MUSIC'S GOT ME TpUF6skoy_k Clock - Axel F Original wLYqA3SgS8M DJ Murphy Brown featuring Captain Hollywood - Axel F 2003 (Offcast Remix)
24. yeah shindig is full of interesting stuff..i've started enjoying reading that and finding out about all random psych stuff...Mojo's alright I guess - tho its sometimes to be a mix of stuff that should go in q and stuff that should be in classic rock and anyway the CD's are generally decent (tho I guess the word or paste is probs the best for their cd compilations).. btw any else heard the shortwave set's cover of slave to the rhythm?
25. they've been getting a quite a bit of press in the 'world music' magazines recently with generally positive vibes...
