What's the worst Dance Act you've ever heard
maybe context is what needed - sung in swedish as part of a pete waterman pop treats programme it works very well... however for the question 'What's the worst Dance Act you've ever heard' how about all those pretentious electronica, electropop and synth-pop acts that you can't dance to but located in the dance area because people do not wanna align themselves to pop...

The Pale
VS3yttHyyew The Pale - Elizabeth In Rags I think this a great record - even tho in parts it like a cross between the New Radicals and the Mighty Mighty Bosstones...which might not be a good thing in some peoples mind...but i think this is a good record by a random that only hotpress would be bothered in... v7A8Mkg1qYQ The Mighty Mighty Bosstones - The Impression That I Get

The Pale
Unlike Pele (Lord Levy signed band) - The Pale can be found on youtube!!! And they've been going as long as the bloke out of Amsterdam/Pele....one of those Irish bands like also the frank and walters that have kept going and going in Ireland in the pages of hotpress - and who unlike Ham Sandwich had at least one brief moment in the English charts sometime a million years ago !!! And looking at wiki if The Pale refers to 'English crown territory in Ireland from the 13th to the 16th centuries' - thats actually a good name for an Irish Band (maybe you like to say for once  ) - much better than Ham Sandwich, the frank and walters or Snow Patrol   L1mlPPU6Hns The Pale - Dogs With No Tails 7uFJ5rwOb_Y The Pale - Shut Up Venus p_81l4DXlwM Gogol Bordello - start wearing purple Listening to these old tracks above you wonder if they have influenced Gogol Bordello in anyway as its very close - very proto-Bordello...(maybe tho it could be said that critically Shut Up Venus would be equal to Take Back The City, while start wearing purple would be Rock The Casbah)...tho now Elizabeth In Rags sounds more like a ska-Waterboys (which is actually quite a good thing as i think this is a great record below....and can be found on 1969 Records rather than 1965 Records if you really really want) VS3yttHyyew The Pale - Elizabeth In Rags

Pele
Looking around Lord Levy's Magnet/M&G acts on wiki - and came across Pele (not the footy player/sometimes singer or that Irish band you sometimes get in hotpress - the pale) who had a few non-hits at the bottom of the top 75 listed in the hit singles book (about 16 yesrs ago with "Megalomania" and "Fair Blows the Wind for France")... and you think that quite a detailed biography for some random dudes who only had visits to the bottom of the 75 (and who cant be found on youtube) but then you find out it was the former band of the bloke from Does This Train Stop on Merseyside hitsters Amsterdam (who also got into the #40 chart on a double a with ricky and did that cover with Elvis Costello on the Liverpool #1s album) and you think thats maybe thats where the interest in Pele is unless the singer has spent his time on wiki himself detailing his career...as you would have thought Pele's biography to have just comprised with 3 lines.... so anyone know of this band or the connection to amsterdam?

What's the worst Dance Act you've ever heard
but you have to think about the German/GAS market - normal English rules do not apply in that market towars length of success and interst...which seems to be a perculia quirk of that area
-
Dear X Factor...
Blame Lord Levy!!! He couldnt be prosecuted in connection with the "Cash for Honours" thing tho I think he maybe guilty of putting Waterman on the road to success when he was at Magnet Records (tho i suppose seeing how much you dislike waterman and seeing that Magnets ost successful act was probs Chris Rea - maybe that should have been Road to Hell??)

Dinah Washington
well the Jazz one is put out by 2 Entertain and is actually alright...quite decent recordings for the vintage - tho due to the age they compile them quite freely and cheeply from original stuff....however sometimes you dont know what you can be getting as there are some re-issue labels that maybe do a lot of live recordings and re-recorded material featuring one 'original' member like i guess David Van Day for Bucks Fizz or random drummers - Charly Records do a 10 CD set for £10 per decade to compete with the 2 Entertain-DMG TV 100 Hits albums in woolies and that could have a lot of dodgy live versions among a couple of original tracks... also if you read record collector seems to be loads and loads of random re-issue labels - some which seem to come out of a random Belgium town and look very dodgy so you dont know what the stuff will be like...perhaps best just keep to the majors and a few like Ace Records

Gaslight Anthem
but wasnt Sam's Town supposed to be their 'Springsteen' album? so could The '59 Sound album be advertised with the tagline "for all those Sam's Town fans who hate the wussy synthpop of human as they think its so gay that everybody is going it dancer or is it denser and cant be bothered with all that c**p as they just wanna rock"

Right Said Fred - I'm A Celebrity
they should have had a hit with Mojive...tho theyve been big in germany for ages i wouldnt say its rubbish - maybe that could be the problem for some people - the fact that is actually quite decent but obv the right said fred brand should be much more cheesy and not trying to remake Gypsy Woman to spite ant & dec...

a bit like the X Factor then?

Dear X Factor...
Dear X Factor/various people called Simon... Even though it very lovely that you will be giving Mr Cohen loads of money this Christmas by covering Halelujah and making it number one...i think there's some other less obv records you should think about first.... 98PgTQOCYmY Vegas - Possessed think this could work well with one of those epic clips videos that you do...and Leon Jackson would still be on the charts if he had covered this...

Gaslight Anthem
man your not the only one - springsteen's name has come up as well in reviews too (well just like hold steady and soph-sesh killers)

The Specials Reunion Tour!?
I dont know?? was he involved when they had a hit in 1996 on Ali Campbell's record label?!?! I suppose its not like Madness without Suggs is it? As long as Terry Hall's there thats the most important thing....That Nelson Mandella record may have had a point but it wasnt a good record and that involved Dammers..whilst Lightning Seeds Sense involved Hall and thats a brilliant pop record - and Terry Hall made a record with Dave Stewart that wasnt a total disaster (vegas possessed)- and thats the Dave Stewart bloke out of the euryjthmics who are dreadful
-
Gaslight Anthem
well maybe those few bands who sound like simple minds ("are you purist or are you wobbler" cv guardian review yesterday - i think) but there seems to be a greater range of stuff in the punk and metal area....esp if you compare the indie section with the pop section and compare the pop charts with artrocker (which i've been reading this morning to my sins!!!)

Christmas Album
well i dont think they would cover that record - more likelt in this age of radio 1 live launge it would have to be something like mary's boy child mixed with ra-ra-rasputin (but done in a tom tom club style  ) me thinks i may have to have knowledge of john barrowman or seal's recent albums here as i think this conversation may go onto a why do they do covers that sounds exactly like the original kinda thread instead....

13th Floor Elevators
B)--> QUOTE(Neil B @ Dec 2 2008, 06:19 PM) 2317679[/snapback]No, what's that? I know there was a '60s TV show called that though. yeah im finding this intersting at the moment - and i even buy it even with out having a cd on the cover....it may not be the best looking magazine inside - tho perhaps equal to or better than artrock and without a lot of its pretention... http://www.volcanopublishing.co.uk/shindig/ http://www.ready-steady-go.org.uk/uploaded_images/shindig_005_01b-762948.jpeg
