END OF YEAR CHART: THE TOP 200 SINGLES: There's no surprise really that Ed Sheeran's Shape Of You, which spent 14 weeks at number (1), 27 weeks in the top 3, 39 weeks in the top 10 and a whole year in the top 20, is the biggest song in the world of 2017. It was a massive year for Ed Sheeran; the current number 1 single, Perfect, is at number (4) & his other January release, Castle On The Hill is at (10). As well as having 3 singles in the top 10, he's also at number 20 with Galway Girl (20). Despacito is at number (2); thanks to a remix with Bieber, the already top 10 single was pushed to number one, and was the longest charting number one single of the year, spending 19 weeks at the top. It's still in the top 10 this week, despite already spending 50 weeks in the top 40. At number (3) is Coldplay & The Chainsmokers with Something Just Like This, which peaked at no.2 in early March. Finally, Imagine Dragons finish surprisingly high with Thunder at number (5); it only peaked at number 7, but spent 29 weeks in the top 10. The band also feature at no.(9) with their first hit of Evolve Believer; which also peaked lower, at no.11, but spent 48 weeks in the top 40. This was the biggest year quite possibly of this century for non-English songs, specifically Spanish songs on the international charts. Aside from Despacito, there were other Spanish songs that chartered very well; J. Balvin & Willy William's Mi Gente finished at no.(11), having peaked at number 2 in September this year. Other big Spanish songs came from Enrique Iglesias' SUBEME LA RADIO (39), CNCO's Reggaeton Lento (57) (boosted by the Little Mix remix), Danny Ocean's Me Rehuso (60) & Maluma's Felices Los 4 (65). Whilst trap music didn't catch on really on the itunes chart, it was huge on the Spotify chart this year. The biggest of which came from Post Malone & 21 Savage's rockstar, which was no.1 for 5 weeks, and ended the chart year at (24). Kendrick Lamar also hit it big this year, with HUMBLE. finishing at (28) and three other singles from DAMN made the end of year top 200 There are a couple other surprises on the list; XXXTentacion's Look At Me! not only making the list, but outcharting Jocelyn Flores, Migos' Slippery out-charting T-Shirt, despite having no itunes sales, Kendirck's LOVE. out-charting LOYALTY., Hello out-charting Water Under The Bridge, Alan Walker's Faded out-charting ALone and various other surprise appearances from other older singles such as Uptown Funk, All Of Me & Happy. Bruno's Versace on the Floor also finishes surprisingly high (107) despite mostly being a massive flop. Two Ed Sheeran songs from his last album "x" managed to make the top 100 despite not spending much time at all in the top 40; Thinking Out Loud only peaked at 39, but finished at (61), and Photograph, which only spent one week in the bubbling under chart, finished the year at (75)! It's fair to say that this was a very stationary sluggish year for the charts; there was only 6 number one singles this year. 24th – 30th September: In probably the most interesting week this chart has had, the impossible happened. Post Malone, POST MALONE(!!!) has secured a number one on this chart. It's one of only five number ones this year. It managed this mostly by streaming, where it almost out-streamed it's nearest competitor 2:1. However, it is unlikely to last, for there is a new version of Mi Gente out featuring Beyonce. The song was only released on Friday, but has already made an impact, pushing J Balvin & Willy William's song up three to a new peaks at (2). This pushes last weeks closest competitor to number one, Sam Smith's Too Good At Goodbyes down a spot to (3), whilst the hype around Taylor Swift's Look What You Made Me Do seems to be dying, and the song drops 3 to (4).
