OCC: The Top 40 biggest Christmas songs of the 21st Century
Over half of the list are covers! I'd love to see the top 40 original Christmas tracks of the 21st Century. This list has 13 songs by Michael Buble all from the one album! He'll probably have half of the top 40 eventually, the way things are going. I believe these are the original songs in the 40, but let me know if any aren't and I'll edit: 2 - Santa Tell Me 4 - One More Sleep 5 - Underneath the Tree 7 - Mistletoe 9 - Christmas Lights 10 - Christmas Time (Don't Let the Bells End) 12 - Snowman 13 - Merry Christmas 18 - Santa's Coming for Us 24 - My Only Wish (This Year) 25 - Cozy Little Christmas 26 - I'll Be Home 27 - 8 Days of Christmas 28 - Cold December Night 30 - White Winter Hymnal 31 - When Christmas Comes Around 36 - You Make It Feel Like Christmas 39 - Christmas Tree Farm

Christmas #1 2023 odds & discussion
https://properchristmas.info/ "With Shane McGowan passing, Christmas Number 1 is a done deal. Luckily, The Krackpots go a week early with their nostalgic Christmas classic-to-be Proper Christmas. Out THIS FRIDAY December 8th." Looks like they are going for a high chart placing the week before, and then throwing their support behind The Pogues for Christmas week!

UK #1 Singles Missing from Streaming Platforms
You got a link? It's definitely something I'd like to keep track of, in case any of them appear again!

UK #1 Singles Missing from Streaming Platforms
If you type a song and the word Spotify into Google, you can often find a link to the track if it has ever been on Spotify before. Using this method, I have found that the ones in bold have at some point been on Spotify previously, but currently aren't. The others have never been on there. The Justice Collective tweeted a few years ago saying they had no idea why their song is no longer on Spotify, so I don't know if even some of the artists have much say regarding them being there or not.

UK #1 Singles Missing from Streaming Platforms
Genuinely tried to stream this the other week while cooking, and I was confused as to why it wasn't on there! The Christmas Mr. Hankey album is there, but this and the South Park movie soundtrack aren't.

Sam Ryder to release his Christmas song on CD for December 15th - I think with the help of Alexa's streaming, he has a very real chance of getting Christmas number 1!

New UK award for artists with a billion career streams
I mean, to be honest, saying "this artist has had a billion streams" actually makes more sense to me than saying "this artists has had 1 million combined sales - made up of a mixture of video streams, audio streams, downloads, and physical sales". So I like the award as an idea.

OCC: Busted's Top 10 Biggest Songs
Will be interesting to see if the new editions of a number of these singles from their new Greatest Hits 2.0 collection - both the "hits" versions and the guest ones - will have any significant impact on the order in a few years time!

British TV Talent Shows - Chart Stats
There's nothing about it on his Wikipedia page, so I'm guessing he doesn't like to shout about it! Having done some research, no-one turned during his audition...but he's gone on to almost certainly be the 2nd best-selling artist from the show! I know it would just be a lot more work, but it would be interesting to see how these compare with Pop Idol, Popstars and Fame Academy artists!

New UK award for artists with a billion career streams
James Arthur got one while promoting a new single, so I'm wondering whether it is just an award that artists can request to help with promo? As has already been said, the likes of The Beatles, Ed Sheeran, Michael Jackson and Adele are such glaring omissions.

The Guardian: "is the UK album chart broken?"
I suppose so...but considering the opening track on The Lottery Winners' album has only 27k streams on Spotify, I think it is safe to say that the album hitting number 1 didn't lead to that many people checking it out.
-
The Guardian: "is the UK album chart broken?"
This article is understating it by saying that The Lottery Winners didn't stay in the top 100 - they didn't even stay in the top 200! A number 1 album, and all the buzz that surrounds that achievement, got them only 880 sales the following week. That's from 25 different formats! Yes, streaming is part of the reason that so many albums tumble so rapidly from the top spot...but when getting a number 1 album doesn't even make 1000 people go "oh, I should go pick that up", it's hard to really see the value of hitting number 1 in the album charts nowadays.

Only Fools and Horses single?
I found this thread while looking up some info about the Only Fools theme tune, as I am trying to see whether John Sullivan singing it has ever been officially released digitally. As of this year, from what I can see, the only release of it was on CD as part of Only Fools and Horses - The Album, which is a crying shame. There are versions of the musical cast singing it on the usual services, alongside some pretty naff covers of both the opening and closing themes, but not the originals. :( There was also a song released in 2004 that sampled both the opening theme and Hookie Street. It was called , and was effectively a mash-up of England football songs with the music from Only Fools! It actually made the charts, hitting number 49. (Sorry for bumping an old thread! I just thought that anyone who also stumbled upon this might also be interested in the Viva England! song)

Most controversial UK #1 ever?
I don't think there has ever been a number 1 single that the charts refused to play. Considering how long the charts have been going, that seems a bit strange!

Pre-2010 artists still relevant to today’s charts
If you're including Greatest Hits albums, then both Whitney Houston and Michael Jackson have been top 20 this year, and have been in the chart consistently for years. Plus, the 40th Anniversary edition of Thriller charted last year.

Disney songs in the UK chart: 1989-present
This list won't feature the most streamed Disney song of all time: Dwayne Johnson singing "You're Welcome" from Moana. Despite chart sales of over 1 million, it never made the top 100!

The re-emergence of CD singles
I remember how exciting it was when an artist on the X Factor saw their own CD single! It used to be a real achievement to have one; nowadays, they are just a means of fans helping their favourite artists get a high chart position. Even the idea of a charity CD single has practically died, they used to be huge...though I wonder if some smaller artists would be tempted to release a CD single, just to say they had a chart hit? You probably only have to sell a handful to get in the top 100 of the physicals chart. Speaking of which, It's Christmas Time by Status Quo is currently number 20. Other bizarre mentions go to Tyson Fury at 91, and Christmas Sharks by Pinkfong at 99. https://www.officialcharts.com/charts/physi...-singles-chart/ I have also just starting reading this article about the resurgence of CD Singles - https://www.officialcharts.com/chart-news/c...-format__34089/ - Olivia Rodrigo having a fake drivers license with a CD single is a genius move. Posters with singles should definitely make a comeback, too.
