We have today had the provisional schedule for the 19th July and there are no 1996 episodes - just a retro hour. Next Friday's double bill of the 2nd and 9th May 1996 will be the last 1996 shows until the 20th September.

We have had the provisional BBC4 schedule for the 12th July. No 1996 episodes that night - We have test cricket highlights at 7pm then a retro hour of 1983 and 1977. On the following Friday, the 19th July, it will be the first night of the proms plus we will also have test cricket and open golf highlights across bbc2 and bbc4. We will then have proms concerts every Friday on BBC4. We have 1 episode from 1996 this Friday then 2 on Friday week, the 5th July. I think that will probably be the end of the 1996 episodes until the 20th September.

Belong Together is number 15 on tonight's first look so has avoided ACR this week.

You may have noticed an edit just before Dubstar sang Stars on Top of the Pops tonight - The bit that was edited out was Mark Goodier saying that Sarah Blackwood once wrote to Jim'll Fix It asking to met the Beatles !

You mention that the 30th March was the 6th time in chart history that the top 2 have both been new entries. The first two times were in 1984 and 1989 - The last 4 times were all in the past 7 months !

FYI - on Glastonbury weekend, the 28th June, there will only be 1 episode from 1996 ( and no retro shows ) as there will be Glastonbury coverage all night on BBC4 from 7.30pm.

The turnover of singles at the top end of the chart was speeding up considerably. I remember HMV used to have new release CD singles at £1.99 on their opening week then £3.99 from week 2 so why wait until week 2 to buy a single. Number of songs to go in straight into the top 10 each year 1985 - 11 1986 - 9 1987 - 19 1988 - 20 1989 - 30 1990 - 24 1991 - 43 1992 - 60 1993 - 71 1994 - 74 1995 - 110 We had 11 songs go straight in at number 1 in 1995 - a record for a calendar year. I know you don't do spoilers on this thread but just wait until we get to 2000 !!

The Robson and Jerome album reached 2 million sales on New Years Eve - only 48 days to reach 2 million sales - that was a record.

We are going straight into 1996 on the 3rd May with the 4th and 11th January shows from 7pm. We will be skipping the Gary Glitter presented show on the 6th December ( that will be the last show he hosts ) . That means we will have 50 weekly shows plus the hour long Christmas Day show - so 25 double bills plus Christmas equals 26 Fridays needed for 1996 and we have 34 Fridays from the 3rd May until Christmas so enough time to complete 1996 ( and have the annual Proms break ) before Christmas 2024.

Unwritten by Natasha Bedingfield is number 17 on tonight's First Look Chart so not on ACR yet.

Stick Season by Noah Kahan again denied the number 1 spot due to ACR. Beautiful Things by Benson Boone number 1 on sales of 54,642. Stick Season number 6 on ACR sales of 28,131 but would be number 1 on SCR sales of 55,063.

Texas Hold Em by Beyonce number 1 for 4th week on sales of 53,005. Stick Season by Noah Kahan would have reclaimed the number 1 spot tonight if not on ACR with SCR sales of 57,152 but number 7 on ACR sales of 29,192.

On the 30th September, you mention about Smokie and Roy Chuby Brown climbing from 8 - 5. In fact, that 3 place climb was the only climber in the entire top 75 1 climber 1 non mover 44 down 29 new entries The late 90s were a period of lots of new entries but most of them going straight in then straight down. Discounting singles on week of release then upping the price on week 2 didn't help

Tonight Texas Hold Em by Beyonce is the new number 1 with sales of 59,272. Stick Season is number 5 on ACR sales of 34,406 however it would be number 1 if still on SCR with 67,171.

How about Prince Buster Feb 67 - Al Capone - number 18 Apr 98 - Whine and Grine - number 21 31 year gap between first 2 hits. Whine and Grine became a hit due to being featured in a Levi jeans ad.

To danG Do you get the Music Week Chartpack which is sent just after 8pm every Friday. It tells you every song in the top 75 that has increased sales - you can work out which songs have not increased sales in the past week as well. Alan Jones doesn't give the sales figures for every song.

Cruel Summer has increased overall sales by 1737 this week so I assume its back to zero weeks of decline - that will annoy a certain person on this thread !!

Just a quick note to say that BBC4 have changed their schedule for tomorrow - no 1995 shows tomorrow night - instead, 4 retro shows featuring Steve Wright.

It's also hilarious how certain people on here get so wound up about it ( see top of the page ) !!

We have had the provisional schedule for the 2nd February and I can confirm 1995 will return on that day with a double bill from 7pm.

We have had the provisional BBC4 schedule for the 19th January and they are still celebrating the 60th Birthday of Top of the Pops with an evening of shows from 1984 to 1988 so the 1995 shows will not resume until at least the 26th January but probably later.
