  1. As you have done 4 weeks in one go, there was a connection between the top 10s for the 10th and 17th September. On the 10th September, we had the 36th song to go straight in at number 2 On the 17th September, we had the 36th song to go straight in at number 1. Also we will be skipping a couple of upcoming episodes of Top of the Pops - on the 9th June we will be skipping the 3rd November 1994 show ( due to R Kelly appearing during the chart countdown ) and the 10th November 1994 show due to Gary Glitter playout. We will probably miss a couple of shows from December 1994 as well - The 15th where Gary Glitter is the playout and gets mentioned during the show - the 22nd December which Glitter hosted.
  2. Your post looks very familiar Mack - I wonder where you got it from ?

We don't have the exact sales figures for Green Green Grass over the last couple of weeks but it declined last week - I think it is on 2 weeks of decline at the moment so another week left...again.
  5. In your summary of the 13th August you say that " never before has a track spent 7 weeks at number 2 without making the top" however Pat Boone spent 7 weeks at peak of number 2 with Love Letters In The Sand in 1957 In 1953 Frank Chaksfield and his Orchestra spent 8 weeks at peak of number 2 with Terry's Theme From 'Limelight'
  6. Come On You Reds was just credited to Manchester United Football Squad which means: Most weeks at number 1 - UK chart history. Manchester United 2 - Status Quo 1 !!!
  7. Regarding I'll Remember by Madonna. It was Madonna's 32nd different top 10 hit but the 35th time Madge has made the top 10 - Holiday was a top 10 hit 3 times and Crazy For You twice made number 2 - only the 2nd ever single to achieve this feat following Honey by Bobby Goldsboro.

Sorry I am a bit late to this thread but I was looking at Cathy Dennis ahead of tonight's Top of the Pops - Cathy is at number 32 with 8 number 1s however I make it she has 9 number 1s as a writer. In February 2004 Sam and Mark got to number 1 with the double a side With A Little Help From My Friends and Measure Of A Man - Cathy Dennis wrote Measure Of A Man. Cathy therefore has 9 number 1s with a total of 21 weeks at number 1 so jumps 3 places on your list.
  9. Sorry my mistake - I meant Twist and Shout by Chaka Demus and Pliers was the UK's 700th number 1.
  10. It wasn't mentioned on the show but Tease Me was the UK's 700th number 1.

  13. There were no presenters on the Christmas Day 84 show - the acts introduced each other.

  15. The 1994 episodes will start on the 6th January with the 4th January 1994 show which was a 30th anniversary special presented by Smashie and Nicey - its basically an old clips show. The weekly 1994 shows will start on the 13th January: 7.00pm - 6 January 1993 7.30pm - 13 January 1993 provisional schedule for 20th January: 7.00pm - 20 January 1994 - last show for Tony Dortie 7.30pm - 27 January 1994 - last show for Mark Franklin It's ironic that the last number 1 for Tony and Mark will be Things Can Only Get Better !! I am going to miss both of them. The retro double bills that followed the 1993 episodes will continue into the 1994 shows with 1977 and 1983 on the 13th Jan - 1981 and 1990 on the 20th Jan.

  20. Last Christmas has had 33 top 10 weeks. It had 10 weeks in the top 10 at Christmas 1984 ( with Everything She Wants ) and Christmas 1985.
  21. I've just been catching up on this thread. On your summary of the 9th October, you mention Take That and Lulu entering the chart at number 1 and then you say: " In case you’re wondering the only other group to score consecutive No 1 hits at debut were Slade." What about Queen ? - straight in at number 1 in December 1991 with Bo Rap / These Are The Days Of Our Lives and then their next hit, then 5 Live EP ( alongside George Michael and Lisa Stansfield ) also entered the chart at number 1 earlier in 1993.
  22. The last number 1 of the 1950s, What Do You Want To Make Those Eyes At Me For by Emile Ford and the Checkmates, was a b-side - the a side was called Don't Tell Me Your Troubles.
  23. The Smiths masterpiece How Soon Is Now was originally on the b-side of the 12 inch single of William It Was Really Nothing in 1984 however so many people loved How Soon Is Now - it was number 1 on John Peel's Festive 50 of 1984 - that it was released as a single in its own right in 1985.
  24. The Top of the Pops repeats reminded me that Thinking Of You by Sister Sledge was originally the b-side of Lost In Music back in 1979 Thinking Of You was released as a single in 1984 reaching number 11.
  25. I'm showing my age here but Tommy Vance was a rock person but he was a very good presenter of the Top 40 back in the day.
