This year was weird because now the Box Channels have gone and now MTV are closing and Now is not on Freeview anymore it seemed it wasn't until 1 December before That's TV changed their channels so it seems very late this year, in previous years it was getting earlier and earlier but I feel this year they have reversed this trend.

Cliff and Noddy must be holding their breaths that the new year arrives very quickly. Driving Home For Christmas is my fave Christmas song so let's send it to number one.
  3. Jack Saunders stop saying it's first Christmas Number One it isn't she was No1. with Band Aid II.
  4. Lots of publicity about Kirsty MacColl at the moment might spark some interest in the song next week if they find any proof of who killed her.
  5. How often has Band Aid not been in the Christmas Chart Top 10 in last 10 years?
  6. The Radio 1 audience concentration span is not very long so they need to keep being reminded.
  7. I am not a fan of 70s Paul McCartney if having one of the most boring songs of all time as the decades biggest song, he releases this annoying Christmas song, not sure why it is continuely popular when other 70s better songs like Slade fall out of favour.
  8. Well it was Puppy Love really for SC Juniors
  9. Goated? do people still say GOAT in 2025 thought it went out of fashion about 3 years ago ;)
  10. Yes but ladies of a certain age and all that, at least he isn't on tv as much as he used to be.
  11. Well there's always been chart manipulation, the 90s promo for songs six weeks before release to get the first week number one, Spotify playlists, releasing extra mixes with cd singles and others it's just the game that the record companies play.
  12. Chris Rea my fave Christmas song seems to be falling out of favour in the last few years.
  13. We could also be pedantic and say "Padam Padam" was No.1 for 5 weeks on the sales chart. 😛
  14. Kylie was No.1 in 1989 with Band Aid II so it isn't technically the first time she been the Christmas No.1 if she makes it today.
  15. Does anyone else think the opening beat sounds like Crystal Waters Gypsy Woman?
  16. Sales vs streaming - With a sale you had to make a trip to a town centre, physically walk into a shop, find £3.99 and then go all the way home, to get x number of people to do this especially in times of hardship was a mighty achievement and any act who managed this should be praised. Streaming go to spotify, find a song play it done in 4 minutes. This is why in my opinion streaming sales and downloads should not be compared to physical sales they should be two separate things, imagine all the actual sales from 1950s to 2005 that never happened as people never got to purchase a song they liked. There are songs I hear now and I think, why was that not in my record collection and why did I not buy it.

I seem to remember when Magic was released she was on a lot of shows including the One Show and Lorraine. She could do This Morning, GMB, Loose Women, BBC Breakfast amongst others, I remember when Steps did their comeback they even appeared on regional news shows and with the publicity she has got from this amazing comeback most live, talk related shows would welcome her with open arms.

Maybe if she stopped living it up in America and did some promo in the country that gives her the most attention she wouldn't need to keep releasing remixes, as much as Kylie and BMG want her to be big in America it is unlikely to happen and she would be better making tv appearances over here and cementing her relationship with the British public. I am sure if she had got herself a guest appearance at Glastonbury (maybe with Rick Astley) it would have given the song a push, instead she is telling interviewees how America can look at her back catalogue see what they have missed and hinting at Las Vegas concerts and Madonna collabs.

Since when has a singer's name got to do with success, have Kylie Minogue, Anne-Marie, Susan Boyle or Celine Dion suffered due to their names?
  20. Wow climbed 43,29,27,26,22,20,18 and 5
  21. It sounds like Darude Sandstorm and it could easily have been a monster hit in around 1996.
  22. Kylie's US promotion and concert appearances maybe paying off Padam is No.62 and No.84 in US I-tunes. Not quite sure I agree with her doing all this US stuff when it's still the UK where she is most popular and her only appearance has been to fly in for Capital Ball and fly out again, but if she and her record company are determined to finally break the US market best of luck to her. Padam is back at No.1 in UK how does this compare to other i-tunes songs over the years? How long did Flowers stay in the top 3 this year before dropping away?

Kylie and BMG would have been paying Spotify for the last 10 years if it was that easy.
  24. The difference is in previous times the BBC didn't bother who was listening to which station as long as they were listening, a 60 yr old could listen to Simon Bates or DLT on radio 1 and that was that, now the BBC wants people of a certain age listening to both, technically radio 1 would rather have 5 people only listening to radio 1 everyday under the age of 30 than 9 million over 40s tuning in, there is nothing wrong with aiming for a target audience but to say we don't want these people listening to our station is ridiculous.
